hey Scott, long time listener, first time caller... oh wait, wrong show... actually i've never listened, but i'm getting a Fabio Vibe here is that right?
OH, steve lacy. Love him. Some of the happiest musical moments of my life - seeing him live 3 times.
9:54am
Cecile:
Cheri, that's like the shelf in our bathroom at work. Three days ago I thought, "we could use a shelf in the women's bathroom to put stuff on we can't use hook for." Two days later...ta-da!
Now I'm thinking about a million dollars.
9:56am
Cheri Pi:
Weird Cecile! I love the uncanniness of coincidences. I'm thinking of falafel for lunch- easy to please.
9:58am
Cecile:
I'm thinking of banh mi.
9:59am
bruceleh:
Gotta check that out, but how can anything top 'School Days' or 'Songs' or 'Futurites' ?
10:00am
Cecile:
I saw Steve Lacy on his very last tour.
He had aged a decade, even though he'd played there the year before. He sat down often - he never did. And Irene would rub his shoulders. But when the other guys in his trio would take a solo, he would just beam. I was so moved.
10:00am
Cecile:
I love anything he did with Mal Waldron.
10:00am
northguineahills:
I'm going to do a veggie chorizo, egg, ajecito, jalapeno, etc burrito for lunch.
I really dug that Lacy track as well.... and Nakatani is awesome to see live.
10:02am
Cecile:
yay! Billy Jam live (for about 15 minutes for me.) hurray!
10:02am
bruceleh:
"Live at Dreher", another ATF.
Last time I saw Steve Lacy was him playing solo in front of the Seagram's building right out on Park Avenue!
10:05am
Dead Corporate Eyes:
*don't feel like workin'...*

Yes. LOVE Dreher.
bruceleh, how wonderful.

"give the drummer some" ... (or what ever that show was called) vibe... perfect for a friday morning!
awesome, love her music. i didn't know it was out already. thanks!
10:20am
northguineahills:
Actually, I'm going to switch over to Doug's "Give the Drummer Some" stream in about 10 minutes, I like to juggle both Scott and Doug's streams on Friday mornings.
10:20am
lane:
Doug Schulkind, that's it... great vibe!
10:20am
malco:
nice
10:21am
northguineahills:
I've only heard Mary Halvorson when she was playing w/ Kevin Shea.
10:21am
lane:
north guinea, where is Doug now? do u mean on archive?
10:23am
northguineahills:
He has a separate live stream you can find on the wfmu home page, right under Scott.
It's hard to choose, since both have amazing curatorial skills.
10:25am
lane:
cool, i'm really so lucky to be in south park slope where i get crystal clear tower signal...
10:25am
pedro silveira:
i've listened mostly to her records as a leader, saturn sings and dragon's head. i really like both, i think they have a distinctive sound which brings together much of free jazz/creative music/whatsoever with a contempoary feel. i'll look for something of her with kevin shea. she has one record out on clean feed with tom rainey and ingrid laubrock which is also worth noting... omg, i really sounded like a "middle aged middle class whitey newspaper jazz critic" right now.
Yeah I agree, I think RT on gadgets plus a drummer is my favorite kind of setup.
11:10am
r2d2:
THIS IS BAAAAAAD -.......
11:10am
allan:
i wishd i coulda seen this in my own town
11:11am
northguineahills:
I preferred Toral's guitar playing, but he is a really awesome person to sit down and have a pint w/. I believe that was when he had his body sensor electronics at Tonic....
11:14am
Cecile:
Damn, when was this?
I miss when Davu and others had an ongoing improv series in Mpls. We saw some great people that way.
11:19am
Cecile:
Oh, they are having shows all over the place. Just all scattered around. Der. I have to get out more.
11:19am
Cecile:
Dah-Voo
11:20am
allan:
i had no idea bout any of this. davu seru is playing every few days right down the street. maybe it would be worth hanging around st paul at night
11:22am
Cecile:
that and the Amsterdam and Black Dog.
I know what you mean, allan!
11:25am
lane:
this vibe reminds me more of John Allen than Fabio or Doug S. I like it a little more too. u get those danceable tracks in there sometimes to cut the obscuantist stuff, with a touch of world beat... i'm no musician, just a wank fuck painter so don't take me too seriously... great show!
11:26am
allan:
man oh man i really need to get out more
11:29am
Dead Corporate Eyes:
live while you can, that's my credo--get out and do and see these things. they may never happen again.
11:33am
Cecile:
clean feed has some great releases, and a sale! Nice to know Dennis Gonzalez has someone issuing his records more frequently.
11:35am
allan:
there's really just too much good music. un embrrass de choix. i guess that's better than the opposite.
11:40am
Lydia Lunch:
suuuper into your show today Scott McDowell
11:41am
Dead Corporate Eyes:
it's amazing that so much stuff is going on, even in a ham-and-egger town like Cleveland! this week honestly I could've seen something cool every single night...as it was I saw Corsano/Dilloway duo in a chapel in Oberlin on Sunday, and White Hills on Tuesday...

And the chairlift swept him into the air (I was working at a ski area at the time)
