Carmichael:

OK, I'm actually here in the cyber-flesh. Good morning Amanda and undetermined future participants.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51am
Amanda:

And good -- nay, GREAT morning to you, real live Listener Carmichael!
  12:00pm
efd:

I am getting my greeting in early this week in case I get busy/sidetracked later.

Greetings!
  12:00pm
listener james from westwood:

good wednesday everyone and hello, amanda!
  12:03pm
glenn:

is cyber flesh in the new crayola box?
  12:03pm
Carmichael:

This was just before he hit gold with Damn the Torpedoes. He was just another guy flom Florida.
  12:03pm
G:

Tom Petty before he was classic "classic rock"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm
Amanda:

Hey lJfW, efd, glenn, and G! Thanks for satisfying my hankering for cyber flesh.
  12:08pm
glenn:

i think his band before the heartbreakers was called mud crutch.
  12:09pm
Carmichael:

Hey, I have this album. Bought it when it came out. I also have the 45 of Sugar Sugar from the back of the box of Super Sugar Crisps.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm
Amanda:

Whoa, Carmichael, that is (forgive me) sweet!
  12:15pm
Carmichael:

Even back then, I hoarded vinyl. I still have my red Chipmunks album, as well as the Hanna Barbera album with Huckleberry Hound telling stories, and Pixie & Dixie chasing each other around.
  12:16pm
G:

Welcome to Vinyl Hoarders Central, and thank you for testifying.
  12:20pm
kat330:

What took me so long to find this playlist? Hi, Amanda, and all the usual suspects! :)
  12:20pm
glenn:

i had to go to youtube to remind myself who pixie and dixie were. what the hell is with the anthropomorphisizing of mice?
  12:21pm
G:

@kat330: Maybe your loading problems on the 9-12 list had you dizzy?
  12:22pm
listener james from westwood:

reconnected recently with a guy who back in the late 80s had been *hugely* into cds. in his email he said he'd now switched from tower records to the princeton record exchange. i told him about the fmu record fair and said it's basically vinyl heaven. we shall see if i've won a new convert....
  12:22pm
Mickey M.:

I was a huge gamechanger and money machine, glenn. It's called "copycatting"
  12:23pm
kat330:

@G: yeah, that's what we'll call it, "loading problems". ;)
  12:24pm
glenn:

she's fucking goofy. that's all i have to say to you, mickey.

Esso Terrac joke.
  12:31pm
kat330:

Thank you, kindly, Ms. Television!
  12:32pm

Now it would be Exxon Terrac.

Hi Amanda! wow, the Mice material is aging very well.
  12:52pm
kat330:

Hi, Joe B! Did you attend the Kopp show last night?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm
Amanda:

Joe, I couldn't agree more. I listen to that reissue all the time.
  12:55pm
kat330:

Like the Sunshine and Light theme you have going, A. Sunny outside and in.
  12:56pm

Turn it up. I can't hear you over the vacuum!

I SUCK!!!!
  12:57pm
Danne D:

Hi Kat :) Also good to see FXO here :)
  12:59pm
kat330:

FXO?
  1:02pm
G:

FXO = Frank O'Toole, DJ
  1:03pm
kat330:

Ohhh, okay. Still a learning curve for me, and lots of exxonterica passing me by.
  1:04pm
G:

Danne's been here like forever. I've only been here maybe 4-5 years...
  1:07pm
efd:

And Frank's been here longer than forever! :D
  1:07pm
kat330:

@G: Yes, I believe Danne D. was the first commenter's name that registered to reregister with me. And that was from 7SD, the only show we listened to before December.
  1:09pm
glenn:

and bob brainen. also longer than forever.
  1:10pm
kat330:

I'm certainly glad we've expanded our aural vistas, not only FMU but GTDS and Ichiban. Now, I just have to figure a way to take FMU out to the garden with me. Otherwise I'll be missing a lot over the coming months.
  1:10pm
kat330:

Lightning -- still a light motif. :)
  1:12pm
G:

@kat: Wireless internet is the future :-P
  1:12pm

Yeah, G., what exactly and how much approx.?

http://www.torontosun.com/2012/01/26/kotter-star-dies-at-60?
  1:15pm
G:

I don't think we're in the same internet market -- I'm east coast US and you're where? I have verizon wireless for my (all-online) work mainly, 59/mo. (I'm doing final grading in an online course right now, actually.) Works fine on a laptop with their USB modem, no smartphone needed.
  1:16pm
kat330:

Love the Lowe!
  1:17pm
Rich Z., Nutley, NJ:

Nick Lowe Two-fer Tuesday!
  1:18pm
kat330:

@G: yeah, I realize the cellphone route, but we're being stubborn Luddites about that tech. Somebody mentioned a Kindle, but my old 3G is at least useless that way. Maybe I'll just get long speaker extensions and blast the neighborhood.
  1:18pm
G:

You could also get a DSL type line in the wall, and run one of those long (30/50/etc foot) cords out to the garden. Envision the goal, and then work backwards to find the means -- one of my mottos. :-)
  1:18pm
fxo:

oops.
  1:19pm
G:

fxo is an anagram of fox
  1:19pm
Danne D:

LOL Kat330 - when you deal in volume like I do your comment name becomes memorable I guess :)
  1:21pm
kat330:

@G: Resourceful motto. We'll figure something out. Don't need our weird neighbors (on one side) to get any weirder.
  1:21pm
G:

Keili: Beastin the Airwaves
Danne D: Swampin the Boards

Takes one to know one, right? :-P
  1:21pm
Danne D:

@G - I prefer to think of Fox as an anagram of FXO
  1:22pm
kat330:

Unusual name spellings also work.
  1:22pm
Danne D:

well, G, it's certainly better than the few times I'd call Terre during her show (I'm talking probably once every 3 months back in the day) - though I was at least nice enough to remind her that she should cue up :)
  1:22pm
fxo:

we have a winner!
  1:23pm
Danne D:

This reminds me, I have a picture to send your way, FXO. Let me see if it's on this computer.

  1:27pm
G:

The Boys are Back in Town has been recycled!
  1:27pm
kat330:

Yep, near-dead ringer.
  1:28pm
Danne D:

They should sue themselves :)
  1:29pm
kat330:

Very few groups break the "sounding just like" syndrome. I think the Beatles were the first to do that for me (after 1966-67)
  1:29pm
G:

Their lawyer would like that, Danne -- double work, and he can even work on outsmarting himself.
  1:32pm
G:

@kat: The money people often heavily encourage groups to stick with what hs proven to work for them, and what their fanbase expects/wants. The Beatles were in a hyper-universe of success and therefore had more latitide, as well as a higher bar to clear if they wanted to outdo what'd aleady done.
  1:33pm
kat330:

@G: Yes, and in the case of Motown groups, it was cultivated. Same songwriters, same studio musicians, etc.
  1:35pm
kat330:

Ooooh, a Fiveash v. Chazaloo stream battle? At least for one hour.
  1:37pm
kat330:

Amanda, who's doing this Time After Time cover?
  1:38pm
kat330:

Sweeeeeeeeeet! :>
  1:39pm
ndbob:

True Kat.. though Motown had some really off the wall records, particularly in the early early days.
  1:39pm
kat330:

Sweet 'n' Lowe -- best sub for sugar, and honey for the ears.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm
Amanda:

kat, it is a group called the Vitamin String Quartet. :-)
  1:43pm
kat330:

Thanks!
  1:44pm
kat330:

@ndbob: Any suggestions for me?
  1:50pm
ndbob:

@kat - Motown actually recorded a number of country records on some of its subsidiaries - performers such as Howard Crockett - and quite a few gospel records early on...
  1:51pm
ndbob:

http://motownjunkies.co.uk/index/ has reviews so far of all the Motown related 45's through mid-64 so far
  1:51pm
ndbob:

Lots of interesting information, but he is way too critical in his reviews
  1:52pm
kat330:

Super -- thanks for the info!

The Swinging Tigers and Snake Walk? Heh! Will have to do some listening later.

oh no no no no no no no no not me, Amanda.
  2:08pm
ndbob:

I loved Freaks and Geeks
  2:11pm
kat330:

Never caught that show, but Actor's Theatre across the bridge in Louisville is mounting a play based on that Sweet album. Guess the director already premiered it somewhere else.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm
Amanda:

Holy mackerel, Kat! My cultural knowledge is admittedly narrow in scope, but I'm scared to say I didn't know anything about there being such a play. I'd go see it.
  2:16pm
Mr Jinx:

I'm watching you P & D.
  2:16pm

I need to go... excellent show Amanda!
  2:20pm
Brian en Angleterre:

Hello Amanda. Is thrice a lovely word? Pales besides Wibble but hey.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:21pm
Amanda:

Bye ndbob, see you next time! Mr. Jinx -- I am not P or D-ing, so this has confused me...

Hey Brian! Yes, I love thrice too. Wibble, not so much, but it's probably an American thing.
  2:21pm
kat330:

@Amanda: Ooooops, big gaffe there, my bad. The play is based on Girlfriend NOT 100% Fun (which it isn't making such a dumb mistake ;).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23pm
Amanda:

Haha, well I didn't know about that either!
  2:23pm
Brian en Angleterre:

That's so true Amanda.

I am old enough to remember, perchance it is Pixie and Dixie. Cat chases meese.
  2:26pm
kat330:

It was written up in the paper over the weekend for a production either late fall or early 2013 I believe. What I thought was extraordinary is it's described as a play with two HS guys only. Even a play entitled "Girlfriend" can't have any female roles, go figure! :)
  2:26pm
Brian en Angleterre:

I used to have those badges out of the cereal packets, even the naked swami, Yogi Bear!!!
  2:32pm

Playlist looks fab, have to catch the archie(ive).

You're really hitting that stride.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:36pm

Aw shucks, Brian! That is very kind.
  2:38pm
listener james from westwood:

was by sheer coincidence thinking about sam fox earlier today. i recalled her performing "touch me" on new year's eve during one of the channels' NYE shows. my parents duly changed the channel on me. no fun.
  2:40pm
Danne D:

Funny thing about Clerks of course was that it really had almost no distribution in NJ when it was released. (Underscoring - of course Amanda wasn't in NJ when she saw it). Heard somewhere that it was routinely the most stolen video in NJ video stores as well.
  2:45pm
listener james from westwood:

it was years before i (a nj resident) finally saw that film. never saw notice of it as a first-release movie. quite possibly didn't see it until the same year as jay & silent bob strike back, if you can believe.

C'mon Amanda :) Those early shows of yours are treasures.
  2:56pm
Danne D:

They show 1) how much you've grown as a DJ and 2) how such a huge portion of the charm that your current show contains has always been there even from the beginning :)
  2:58pm
Doug S.:

Oooh, I love this. Sounds like a cross between Rufus Wainwright and Johnnie Ray.

@Danne -- It was a blast, and I still do a show with them every quarter. Always love the activity going on in the kitchen, audible in mic breaks, and other weird chatter. As wet behind the ears as I was then, I still love WHFR!

@Doug -- yeah, love Flat Duo Jets too! And that one always gets me.

@kat, the pleasure was all mine -- and here's a final sun song for ya.
