and the chords swell & SWELL! Another bombastic JB 3 Chord makes its omnipresence, well just that....it's everywhere, if you kinda' look 4 it anyway.
  12:12pm SmokinJ:

Good morning Joe & all! A beautiful 60 degree late January day! Perfect for Rockin'! 8-)
Avatar 12:13pm Joe B:

Hi G, Kevin, BR, or DR!, PFF, J! thanks for tuning in!
  12:15pm PFFlyer:

SJ is smokin' 'cause it 140 degrees C in his land! Oh...you meant 60 F. So that places you south of Mason Dixon or in Paraquay.
  12:15pm dBa Ronald:

Stinky!!!
12:17pm formerly known as the soundguy @ the court tavern:

Nice one, Joe!
  12:19pm SmokinJ:

@PFFFlyer: Hell no! 60 F in the Brew City!
  12:25pm chris:

Loving this! Awesome!
  12:26pm dc pat:

well that's a keeper (Stoned....)
  12:27pm CBGB's:

More company here in punk rock heaven...
  12:30pm efd:

Briefs/Rezillos at the Court was amazing, and I also remember an extraordinarily sweltering night with the Untamed Youth, Swingin' Neckbreakers and Insomniacs, not to mention several Upper Crust shows. Great spot.
12:31pm formerly known as the soundguy @ the court tavern:

if i try really hard i can still smell the place...
Avatar 12:31pm Joe B:

Hi EFD, I believe that was the last time Untamed Youth was in this area until the Norton festival in November! 1997 I will venture to guess.
  12:32pm PFFlyer:

WELL! 6 degree o' separation again, bless my beleaguered (<--I spelled that w/o spell check & damn proud of that!) soul. SJ is almost exactly in line with me on the globe AND I'm pounding one of Miller not-so finest...but it has punch, dang it! Record heat in Milwaukee sez weather channel, global warming pundents are correct?
Avatar 12:33pm Joe B:

Ha! sorry for evoking that memory Mr. Soundguy! Hi Chris and DC pat!
  12:36pm efd:

Kirk, stop trying!
Joe, I think you're right. I think the air conditioning was busted or something... I also seem to remember that the Neckbreakers were supposed to have their new album for sale that night (Kick Your Ass, I think), but the shipment was delayed by a UPS strike?! Oh the irony.
  12:37pm efd:

...and the record for most uses of "I think" in a single comment goes to efd.
  12:38pm G:

Not that there's anything wrong with thinking! :-)
  12:39pm dc pat:

got my 3CM shirt on today....sometimes I stop and wonder what my co-workers think when they see me. Some of these people have high heels, dresses, jewelry....slacks, pressed shirts, and then there's me: t-shirt and jeans every day.
  12:40pm Mike Sin:

re: Court Tavern
Although I don't make the rounds as I did "back in the day," I'm sorry to hear about the closing of live music venues... especially if there's still an audience for the acts presented there. That said, The Court Tavern conducted business for 30 or so years, correct? That really is quite a stretch for any live music venue booking local acts.
  12:40pm kat330:

I think I haven't heard this track in decades, though I have it on vinyl.
  12:41pm glenn:

i think i think i think i think i think i think.
  12:41pm kat330:

Hi, guys, btw!
  12:42pm David Shortell:

In 2009, the Smithereens did a week's residency at the Court to record their live album. One of the Grip Weeds manned a makeshift studio assembled up the steps for the occasion!
  12:42pm Deed Runlea:

this stones song rules
  12:43pm Descartes:

I think, therefore I post.
  12:43pm kat330:

I was always a fan of Between the Buttons, moreso than many others at the time.
  12:44pm dc pat:

think I'm going to have to re-examine Between the Buttons...
  12:45pm efd:

Between The Buttons is great - the first Stones record I really got into, thanks to its presence in my father's record collection.
  12:46pm DJ Keili:

Hey everybody!
Hey Joe! You rawk as always. A little birdie told me that a record store in New Paltz is listening! Give a shout to New Paltz!
I love you!
  12:47pm kat330:

Sticky Fingers' "Can't You Hear Me Knockin'?" may have been the Stones' pinnacle, IMHO.
  12:48pm Multigenre:

Neil Young lyrics + reggae rhythm section + an Al Green horns arrangement -- am I missing anything?
  12:48pm chris:

Damn, Joe, today's show is off the charts awesome! Better than usual awesome. Muchas thanks!
  12:48pm kat330:

[yeah, I know, Exile is everyone's fave...so be it, I think.]
  12:50pm rubble:

Is this a god dam ??
  12:51pm Mike Sin:

re: "Between the Buttons"
Just a recommendation, not some snobby geek epistle... Check out the UK version of "Between the Buttons" on the recent ABKCO CD... It never sounded this good... on any piece of vinyl (IMHO, of course). If you have SACD capabilities, listen to that layer -- you'll really hear just how strangely this LP was recorded. Not "live" sounding by any means, but some freaky depth and texture.
  12:51pm Multigenre:

the god dam has broke
Avatar 12:52pm Joe B:

Gotta find a long song to catch up on the comments! Hi everyone! thanks for tuning in!
  12:52pm kat330:

Thanks, Mike! I was wondering what I'm missing in my version.
Avatar 12:53pm Joe B:

Miek Sin, that was from the CD you recommend! Hi Rubble! kat, Keili!
  12:54pm dc pat:

yeah, my house was strictly Beatles when I was growing up--almost like my older bros didn't even know about the Stones. So there are definitely gaps in my education...I have their first handful of albums but I have no interest in anything after 67 or so, sorry...
  12:55pm dBa Ronald:

Hello Mohonk and the Shawangunk mountains!
  12:55pm efd:

@Mike, are you talking about the 200d Abkco CD reissues, or are there more recent ones?
  12:55pm kat330:

Joe, I think (no, I feel) you gotta be one of the most affable jays around -- thanks for being so polite!
  12:55pm jljl:

oh man, Dagnasty in Boston w/ Dave Smalley singing, amazing show.
  12:57pm kat330:

Just pulled the vinyl out:
"To understand this little rhyme,
You first must tap your foot in time.
Then the buttons come much nearer,
And the Stones you see more clearer."
(I think I'll forgive that bad grammar at the end :)
  12:58pm efd:

(200d = 2002. Thinking I should just give up on commenting for today.)
  12:58pm David Shortell:

I met Randy Now at the Asbury Lanes record swap last week. He's not working at the Record Collector anymore, but he hosts a good Wednesday evening radio show on WTSR.
  12:59pm PFFlyer:

Hot Knives "Take Me Back" on Rhapsody...I couldn't wait for the real hand-held deal within my own, personalized hands...so I went digital already. U should too, since J sez a bit difficult to get (?) maybe he right....again!
  1:00pm PFFlyer:

efd....we get it....keep posting plz?
  1:01pm Posters:

Like all writing, it aint as easy as it looks :-P
  1:03pm dc pat:

said it before, I'll say it again: go see Mikal Cronin, he's get a smoking group. Great show--and if he's playing with Ty Segal, all the better.
  1:05pm kat330:

BtB's is just a week shy of 45 yrs since U.S. release. I couldn't find a date anywhere on my London Mono (!) record, but the sleeve is a hoot and a half.
  1:07pm efd:

@kat330 I think that back cover is another reason I was drawn to it as a kid.
  1:07pm kat330:

"Here's how records give you more of what you want:
1. They're your best entertainment buy.
2. They allow selectivity of songs and tracks.
3. They're convenient and easy to handle. (heh!)
4. They're attractive, informative and easy to store (heh-heh!) [more to come]
Avatar 1:08pm Joe B:

David, thanks for the update. thought I'd see you at Maxwells last Friday for the Gories
Avatar 1:08pm Joe B:

thanks for the heads up DC Pat!
Avatar 1:09pm Joe B:

Kat, wikipedia has feb. 11 1967
  1:10pm kat330:

"5. They'll give you hours of continuous and uninterrupted listening pleasure.
6. They're the proven medium. (!)
7. If it's in recorded form, you know it'll be available on records. (hunh?)
8. They make a great gift." (Indeed!)
And the other side of the sleeve is an array of "The Sound of the Revolutionaries on Columbia Records" album thumbnail pics.
  1:10pm dc pat:

Holy shit, I just started reading an article about crimes against humanity perpetrated by the Soviet Union when this tune came on. FEKK!
  1:10pm Mike Sin:

re: "Between the Buttons"
I was referring to the 2002 ABKCO CD (the one that Joe played). The ones with the dual SACD layer are issued in a digi-pak. The single layer standard CD is currently in a traditional jewel box. Just avoid any US Stones' CDs issued by ABKCO issued in the '80s.
  1:10pm Bill:

Great show. you've made my third nap of day the best yet.
  1:11pm kat330:

Yeah, Joe, is my math wrong? One week shy of 45 years, yes? (also I found on Wiki)
  1:13pm kat330:

Oh, wow, I'm a week ahead of myself! (guess I want that Super Bowl already over, heh)
  1:14pm Mike East:

great show, as always, Joe B.
  1:15pm PFFlyer:

@kat330 et al: no doubt...'cept for Steve Martin's "googlephonics". Now, is that uber rare needle phono guy still around in my hometown down in Dinkytown? I'll check since I need(le) one, pun intended.
  1:17pm SteveL:

Really liking Instramentaclees. Actually, I could probably go for an all instrumental show, or day for that matter.
  1:18pm kat330:

@efd: I'm a week ahead and several tracks behind, so I'll get out from between the buttons now after saying, yes the back cover is why vinyl is cool to keep.
  1:19pm tf:

Bringing me right back to my surf/spy/space phase! Thanks!
  1:20pm PFFlyer:

The question is today; can one surf while spying from space? I 'magine so.
Avatar 1:20pm Joe B:

SteveL, another Bill Kelly discovery!
  1:21pm dc pat:

Lou Rawls! Nice..
  1:21pm Asia Muka:

Wow! What a fitting song to play (Nasty) by The Crazy Squeeze ! Maximum Rock n Roll just reviewed their 7"! Thanks for all the raw n wild tunes , Joe!
Avatar 1:23pm Joe B:

Hi Asia, thanks for turning me on to them!
  1:25pm dc pat:

Lou Rawls? Neil Diamond? Now I feel like I'm sitting in my parents living room playing with little green army guys..
  1:29pm SteveL:

So, Bill Kelly IS God? Noted. [adjusting prayer-request schedule]
  1:31pm rubble:

Kat330 ...records also make for more dependable archival integrity: or simply put, scratch part of a record, only that part is affected.
  1:38pm dc pat:

wow, great Mirrors tune!
  1:40pm David Shortell:

Re: Gories
I haven't seen them since their "final" show at the Bank in 1993. So meager were the crowds they used to draw, that I was once clearly able to watch and listen to them play for a few minutes while peering through Maxwell's window from the sidewalk! (The joint has since soundproofed their performance space.) Then I left to spend the night elsewhere for some foolish and forgotten reason.
  1:41pm SteveL:

This Bloody Hollies album was my best single buy in YEARS.
  1:44pm kat330:

@rubble: Yeah, but they're bloody hell to move, and I've made 36 moves in my life (w/more to come since we rent)... At least records aren't as plentiful as books, which are TRULY a bitch when moving....
  1:44pm dc pat:

Bloody Hollies singer is insane.
  1:45pm SHIMMY:

hiya joe. just stumbled in... getting better with this whole tuesday not thursday thing... slowly.

see ya played jigglers' walking in the rain. tied with 'late light' in my opinion for 2012 song of the year (even though it's not out yet).
  1:46pm SteveL:

dc pat: insanely good or just insane?
Avatar 1:47pm Joe B:

Glad you guys dig the Bloddy Hollies! wish they would come back to NYC.

Hi Shimmy, is walking in the rain on the record? heard Gories were good in brooklyn, hopefully a longer set than at Maxwells Friday!
  1:49pm dc pat:

good, quality vox is hard to come by
  1:53pm kat330:

@dc pat: When times were really rough for us, unfortunately unloaded a lot of great vinyl on eBay (or gave gratis to the local public station).
  1:54pm SteveL:

dc pat:No kidding. Strong vox always stand out and makes a great band awesome.
  1:54pm SHIMMY:

yes i believe the 7" is four tracks: late light, walking in the rain, you're the worst & jigglers theme.

Gories were awesome at the bell house. better than the 2010 shows that I saw. sold out too.

Mark Sultan was much better this time around than at the Norton fest. Actually not angry this time and they situated his setup much closer to the edge of the stage.
  1:57pm little tommy:

this show just kicks ass
  2:01pm dc pat:

kat330: I'd say records are more of a bitch than books. I once made big record crates specifically for moving, forgetting that if the crates get to be a certain size, you won't be able to budge it. Books are lighter.
  2:03pm PFFlyer:

lunch time in the midwest: Oscar M cotto salami, lettuce, mustard, Hellmann's with sliced Gedney's baby dills on top & one of a thousand available extra-sharp cheddar cheese's found in these parts. Then, a buncha' cruncha' Frito Scoops(!) avec home made dip, compliments Lipton vegetable dip. Rinse it down with one of Milwaukee's best and Joe B....then open the dreaded WFMU letter that arrived yesterday......what's inside ???, since the last letter was truly recovered by the US Postal Inspector! (No kidding!)
  2:08pm PFFlyer:

OH! It's only the tax donation statement from the honorable, and organized WFMU heirarchy. Tax tip, which I knew & now U do to; don't take the bling, 'cause by law ya' gotta' write it off the top. Any q's address 2 201-521-1416.
  2:08pm kat330:

@dc pat: Ha! You don't know how heavy so many of our combined books are. PSI, yes, the vinyl could be heavier, but they have boxes a perfect size for the uniform vinyl LPs. The books are a jigsaw puzzle, and we have these three coffin-sized crates of books/records J.T. shipped from Finland. I am not a packrat. Never had that luxury, but I still have a decent selection of classic vinyl.
  2:10pm kat330:

@PFFlyer: Yeah, I got mine yesterday.
  2:11pm PFFlyer:

forgot...ext 226, Liz Berg. Now, I'm shutting up & enjoying like you're supposed to be doing!
  2:32pm Johnny Burnswick:

Court Tavern?! Play some Spinal Jelly!
  2:44pm Mike Sin:

re: Norman Petty
Personality business practices aside, he did some amazing work in that New Mexico studio of his... I luv that "Get Ready to Fly" comp.
  2:49pm Johnny Burnswick:

Court Tavern?! Play some Punsters!!!!
  2:50pm efd:

Hey, I played a ton from that Norman Petty comp too! But I put a "va-" at the beginning of the title, so maybe that's why it didn't show up.
Avatar 2:51pm Joe B:

aha! sorry evan! i will never figure out the variants in the FMU playlist search system!
  2:51pm kat330:

Naughty song! :)
  2:52pm kat330:

Maybe I should revisit the lyrics of Barefootin'.
  2:52pm Johnny Burnswick:

Jesus. Worst version of the Witch!
  2:52pm efd:

@Joe the "contains" option is your friend.
  2:53pm SteveL:

Rockin' the way out the door!

(efd is wise in the Boolean ways)
Avatar 2:54pm Joe B:

guess you won't like their Teengenerate cover either!
  2:54pm dBa Ronald:

Oops... you did it again with another fantastic show Mr Belock. Danke sehr!
  2:55pm kat330:

Ja wohl! Auf wiedersehen, people.
  3:00pm Mike Sin:

@Joe, efd -- I'm a fan of the "VA:" prefacing the title of a various artists' comp.
  3:00pm David Shortell:

Teengenerate is another group that once played the Court Tavern!
  12:30am Matt B:

Hey Joe! Greetings from California and thanks for playing Vicky and the Vengents!
  2:03pm Instramentaclees:

Hey Steve L -
Glad you are diggin' Instramentaclees. It's guys like you why I'll keep writing and it's guys like Joe Belock who I so much appreciate for playing my music. You rock Joe - great show.
Many thanks,
