  11:43am
Jim B:

Michael, noticed that the Benny Goodman piece contained the phrase "rock and roll", & wondered what year it was released.
  11:43am
ChooChoo - ATL:

Thanks mucho for Bucky's cover of "Band of Gold!" Exceptionally wonderful.
  11:54am

paul:

Was the Band of Gold mystery ever solved?
  11:58am
Michael:

I did email Freeda Payne's manager - trying to get her on the show...
  11:58am
paul:

That would be great!
  12:14pm
ChooChoo - ATL:

@paul. - I asked my wife, who used to sing the song at the top of her voice washing dishes along with her sisters. Her take is pretty straightforward: He left Her and the only thing that remains is a wedding ring, the Band of Gold. -- I remember this being discussed here, but can't remember the controversy / discussion.
  12:15pm
Sean in Bristol, UK:

Hi Michael, loving the great sounds you are playing
  12:19pm
J:

Oklahoma loves you...
  12:32pm
Elias:

Dude is revealing all my secrets! Curse you Johnny Bond!
  12:33pm
Peter K.:

The "secret" of "Band of Gold," if that's what it is, is that it's a song about impotence. Her husband left her because he couldn't satisfy her. The key line is when she says she wants him to come back "and love me like you TRIED before." End of story.
  12:34pm
Zombiehamster:

Providing the perfect soundtrack for a Saturday evening. ^_^
  12:35pm
glenn:

geez. now cialis is gonna use it in a commercial. thanks a lot, peter.
  12:35pm
Sal:

Peter - your opinion
  12:36pm
Peter:

For "Serious Drugs".. thanks, Michael.
  12:40pm
Elias:

No, no, no. Band of Gold is a Tolkien thing. Everyone knows that.
  12:42pm
Peter K.:

Sal - many people's opinion, actually, although admittedly not everyone's. Some say that SHE was the one who couldn't perform (because she was a virgin?). Others suggest that her husband is gay, although I think that's a stretch. What's indisputable is that SOMETHING happened on their honeymoon that resulted in their sleeping in separate rooms, and that he only "tired" to love her that night. The rest is, admittedly, open to interpretation.
  12:48pm
Elias:

I said it's a Tolkien thing. Don't make me send Gollum up there! I'll do it!
  12:48pm
ChooChoo - ATL:

@PeterK: Thanks for the point of view.
  12:52pm
Lori at Little Cricket:

Tapioca Tundra....what a wonderful treat!!
  12:55pm
ChooChoo - ATL:

"Band of Gold:" perhaps not so much a controversy than graduate thesis for someone.
  12:57pm
moose:

(i always assumed the husband in band of gold was gay)
  5:24pm
Joan:

RING RING!!!!!!
  1:47pm
Robbie:

I saw Mike Nesmith do a rare solo performance at the Birchmere in Alexandria, VA (outside of DC) in 1992. The only Monkees song he sang was "Tapioca Tundra". I requested "Circle Sky" but he said he could not remember it.
