Favoriting Bryce: Playlist from January 6, 2012 Favoriting

I never miscue a record. I am punctual, well-prepared, and dislike clutter. Outgoing and helpful, I'm always appropriately dressed. I do not behave erratically and have excellent penmanship. My CD's never skip, and I am in good health. I like all the notes, in any order.

Listener comments!

  12:12pm
Loren:

Dude! Bryce! Bring it!
  12:13pm
Chinchilla:

wait... has this all been Smegma? Was there a track before this but after Scott's last Bardo track? Anyhoo lookin forward to today's set!!
  12:14pm
Loren:

You've got a white sphincter? or - your going to like Smegma?
  12:14pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

I thought the Bardo blended between shows and this was the first song of official Bryce-dom
  12:15pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

Loren, are they mutually exclusive?
  12:17pm
bryce:

heya!

yeah, smegma started around 12:10...
  12:17pm
Loren:

of course not, I think.
  12:23pm
pierre lacroix:

hola
  12:24pm
Loren:

Bryce, is that you?

no... it is BSI
  12:24pm
BSI:

Many thanks, boss. I'm gonna need a bath after this.
  12:25pm
Cecile:

BSI!
  12:25pm
bryce:

:)
  12:26pm
Mike East:

Very nice, Mr. Infant.
  12:28pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

screamin!
  12:29pm
Caryn:

It's all smegma, sausages and queens so far... It's like drag queen stand-up night over here.
  12:30pm
Caryn:

Also, Cecile & DCE, answered your last questions on Scott's comments board right as the show ended, so don't know if you stuck around long enough to see it?
  12:30pm
Marmalade Kitty:

Great BSI!!!
  12:31pm
Cecile:

aw, cool, they sang in Sami. I have some records of Wimme - that's how I first learned about the Sami singing style. There are actually some people who are trying to bring back joiking in Upper michigan.
  12:32pm
Marmalade Kitty:

Happy new year Bryce!!
  12:34pm
Caryn:

Joiking was big for a couple of years in the late 90s/early 2000s. Big joiking acts and chart-topping records... Then the trend went away. Of course you still hear it, but mostly in the folk circles and of course in Sami society.
  12:36pm
bryce:

hey, marmalade kitty!
  12:36pm
Cecile:

It's amazing how much it sounds like the Native American chants of the Upper Midwest. Eerie.

Hey, Bryce, there is a song I think called Laughing Song by Adrian Belew from his Desire Caught By The Tail, a lovely and grating record... there's plenty of maniacal laughing on it.
  12:38pm
BSI:

Thanks KItty & Co.!
This Karuna Khyal thing is stewing the gray matter nicely.
  12:39pm
breughelesque:

Oh man, I'm trying to negotiate with a friend on buying his copy of this Karuna Khayal rec. It's killer through and through.
  12:43pm
bryce:

hey, cecile! wow, haven't heard that record in forever.

breughelesque, he has the actual record??
  12:43pm
Caryn:

Cecile, if you like that & Korpiklaani, you might enjoy a band called Värttinä. Their music is rooted in Carelian women's "poem singing". Very cool stuff. I personally prefer the early records (until "Kokko" in 1996), but the later, more experimental stuff is interesting too.
  12:44pm
Loren:

Maru Sankaku Shikaku
  12:45pm
Cecile:

I know of Varttina, never really took the time to listen to them.
  12:47pm
Caryn:

If you look them up, Cecile, I'd recommend albums 3-5 (Oi Dai, Seleniko & Aitara).
  12:48pm
Cecile:

Thanks, Caryn.
  12:49pm
breughelesque:

yep, bryce. he does! he's an uber-collector.
  12:50pm
Fuzzy:

Karuna Khyal:
http://earlspsychedelicgarden.blogspot.com/2009/05/karuna-khyal-alomoni-1985.html

Worked for me!
  12:52pm
Loren:

Karuna Khyal Alomoni 1985 out the door for 225 bucks!!
  12:53pm
Caryn:

Funnily enough, Värttinä also co-wrote (with A.R. Rahman) the music for the "Lord of the Rings" musical that was staged in Toronto in the mid-2000s. Have no clue what that music is like, but considering the Finnish roots of much of Tolkien's work, it seemed appropriate.
  12:53pm
avant reguard aka pitch n putt glitch and guts:

amazing show as always. thx for the outer out there under outer - oh trapped in the metaphoric symbolist language nightmare- flare. thx for the sounds. onwards and upwards aahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
  12:53pm
kme in chi:

echoes of Acid Mothers Temple here..
  12:54pm
kme in chi:

(in the Marble Sheep Meats, not the Sami conversation)
  12:55pm
Caryn:

Might have a point there, kme in chi.
  12:55pm
Looms:

Stunning! :) Whose party is this?!
  12:58pm
breughelesque:

Loren-- that's about my price range for that LP. hoping he'll come down a bit.
  1:00pm
Loren:

I was just on discogs... surprised the Phoenix reissue is long gone.
  1:00pm
Loren:

meeting... don't stop playing music, okay?
  1:01pm
bryce:

i'll see what i can do........
  1:03pm
still b/p:

It's not everyday there's smegma and phlegm in the lunch hour.
  1:05pm
bryce:

i'm trying to find sebum
  1:06pm
breughelesque:

Ha, Loren. all the good shit on discogs is sold from from the EU.
  1:10pm
BSI:

Brilliant. Love VDO like a very dirty friend that nobody else can see...but everyone knows it's there...
  1:11pm
Eartha Kitt:

C'est sebum.
  1:13pm
Cheri Pi:

Black Pus
  1:15pm
Caryn:

Oh boy, the smegma, sausages and queens have been joined of late by phlegm, "fertility dairy" and the vas deferens... Is this a theme show, Bryce?
  1:15pm
Cecile:

Sort of like a smutty Harvey, BSI?
  1:17pm
bryce:

something's in the air
  1:18pm
BSI:

The best Harveys often are....
  1:18pm
Caryn:

Well, let's hope that something is not smegma... Or phlegm for that matter.
  1:19pm
BSI:

...who let that sticky pooka in here?
  1:20pm
Cheri Pi:

yeah, who let Santorum in here??
  1:23pm
Caryn:

Santorum? Where? Run for the hills!
  1:23pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

apparently, Santorum happens.
  1:25pm
jonathan:

yeah dan savage!!!!
  1:25pm
Cheri Pi:

I need a shower...
  1:26pm
Caryn:

Hate to be a stickler, Bryce, but it's The Sperm, not just Sperm.
  1:27pm
BSI:

Still, it's been a very.... fluid..... set, so far...
  1:27pm
still b/p:

Free-flow radio.
  1:28pm
Marmalade Kitty:

Did the comic "Vic Reeves Big Night Out" ever make it to US shores?
  1:32pm
Caryn:

Actually, Bryce, ignore me being a stickler. Looking back over the Sperm discography, they've occasionally used the The, and occasionally gone without. So, never mind!
  1:32pm
bryce:

:)
  1:34pm
Caryn:

And for those who want to know, the Sperm track's title translated is simply "ear clinic Hesperia", while the Kurenniemi track is "sounds of an electronic instrument #1"
  1:35pm
mstr po:

i ve occasionally used the the ,,, too
  1:35pm
Caryn:

Hah, wondered whether you'd get to the dance of the anthropoids, Bryce!
  1:35pm
Droll:

The "The" prefix has always been a plague on bands. I loved when British announcers would say "The Cream" or "The Led Zeppelin". Why not also call Matt Johnson's band "The The The"?
  1:37pm
Marmalade Kitty:

Crazy off the wall abstract; early 90's uk show with Vic & Bob.
www.channel4.com/programmes/vic-reeves-big-night-out/4od

Hope you can watch 4od in us & everywhere!?!
  1:38pm
Caryn:

Yeah, but sometimes the prefix can be helpful. For instance, the Finnish band Rasmus went without the prefix when they sang in Finnish, but used the prefix when singing in English. So it's easy to tell by just looking at the band's name on the record sleeve or concert poster, which language they're gonna be singing in.
  1:39pm
Caryn:

Never watched "Big Night Out" but was a big fan of "Shooting Stars". I have seen some bits of "Big Night Out", but never a whole episode. Maybe should check it out...
  1:41pm
Cecile:

caffeine - that's what Bufferin had.
