My friend Nadine says the past 25 years or so has seen enormous improvement in personal cleanliness in France, as bathrooms which had become very out of date finally were modernized. Who wanted to wash in a drafty yet cramped bathroom with rusty plumbing? So now the French virtually revel in bathing. French people who left that country before then, however, often still carry their old habits (or lack of them).

And those turkish toilets are so vile. And way more difficult for us women to use than for men. My only experience with a turkish toilet was in a restaurant in Greece. A public turkish toilet? Oy. The state of it did make me think that the men seemed to have definite problems using it too... Or maybe that was because of the alcohol served at the restaurant. Hinders aiming.

I love acoustic music but that kind of stuff I have little use for. It's kind of why I stopped going to folk festivals decades ago. That, and not enjoying sitting in the mud so much any more.
