A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

  9:44am
trouble:

welcome north guinea hills, good morning "Mark". studio B you know i am mad at you, talk to the hand!
  9:46am
Mike East:

Great painting this morning, Trouble!
  9:47am
Fritz:

I've had parts of "hooked on a feeling" floating in my mind ever since Duane played it a few weeks ago, and now you mention it. Am I going to have to have a lobotomy to get that song out of my mind?
  9:47am
Studio B:

Heaven knows no anger like love to hatred turned, yadda yadda yadda.
  9:48am
emmagineering:

really enjoying the set/ particularly this evan parker track / reminds me of trevor watts a bit. thank you trouble! who is the artist for this painting?
  9:49am
emmagineering:

random thought: also i really like that wfmu's addition question would NEVER ask me to carry a one.
  9:51am
trouble:

today's artist is isabelle pelissier!
  9:56am
Kevin:

play something raunchy and would get my turbo sexual Korean power on
  10:02am
bob:

what's the eletronic jam that keeps goin under all these others?
  10:02am
Kim Jong Il:

Only one human on earth has true turbo "love-to-love-ya beloved leader" Korean sexual power.
  10:05am
Studio B:

Too much ginseng turns you into a megalomaniacal despot. Better watch it, Kimmy.
  10:08am
Cecile:

Oh, yes. Lowe's pussed out.
  10:08am
Lucas:

HI Trouble and all listeners!!!
  10:09am
glenn:

did they ever. write them nasty letters, i say.
  10:09am
Kurt:

Is that show really that popular?
  10:09am
Cecile:

You know it's dumb. Detroit is rebuilding. I would think Lowe's would want their ads out there. :D
  10:10am
jonathan:

ah, the brilliance of the far right
  10:10am
Cecile:

TLC draws as much as some network shows. And it's an audience they want.

Home Depot didn't cave to anti-gay bigots, looks like they can step in on this show as well. Hell, there are Muslim ladies working at my Home Depot.
  10:12am
Cecile:

advertisers want, I mean.
  10:13am
listener mark:

I go to Lowes to get the low price. Then head on over to Home Depot. They match the price, it's Home Depot policy.
  10:14am
Derek in DC:

An anti-Muslim, anti-gay group manages to convince an anti-union company to drop sponsorship of a TV show they don't like. I'm seeing some connections here.
  10:14am
Kurt:

Lowes and anyone else has the right to advertise or not wherever they choose despite what the PC crowd wants. And the muslims can have Detroit. Much of it looks like a war zone anyway.
  10:15am
glenn:

Ummmmm. Cecile, over to you.
  10:17am
Cecile:

Who is Dan Folger? He's great.

(Not rising to the bait today.)
  10:19am
Lucas:

French adds are really, but really bad. That's my only contribution to the discussion.
  10:20am
glenn:

p.c. has nothing to do with it, doofus. they caved to stupid christians, who as far as i can tell are way more reactionary than the muslims that they are hating on.
  10:20am
Cecile:

Trouble, do you have some gentle robot-love instrumental music, preferably from Kompakt?
  10:20am
earwax:

Sounds like the Streisand effect. I never would have heard of the show or Lowes advertising on it. Now it's news because they cave into a small pressure group and Lowes looks like a bunch of dumbasses.
  10:21am
Cecile:

Hey, there's a great Streisand impersonator at the bar down from the street from my work next week. I should go check him out. St.Paul's slowly starting to get more interesting.
  10:22am
still b/p:

A handy adaptoid figure of speech from now on, thanks to such puzzling dumbassery: How Lowe can you go?
  10:24am
Cecile:

sbp, aw, but that then makes Nick Lowe look bad.
  10:24am
Van in Dallas:

Oh no! I missed not one but two of my favorite This Mortal Coil songs!

Hi there Trouble!
  10:25am
Lucas:

Nice remix
  10:25am
trouble:

cecile i am stuck on the 4th floor, 2 floors away from the record library so today what you hear is what you get, sorry...bonjour lucas! hi van in dallas.
  10:26am
Cecile:

trouble, this is actually perfect.
Very robotic and gentle
  10:26am
glenn:

well, he was married to carlene carter, and if he survived that, then he'll survive this.
  10:27am
Cecile:

On a happier note, I just ordered Mr. Cecile a good iPod speaker and some Star Wars chopsticks from Think Geek. You can't be unhappy when you order from Think Geek.
  10:27am
Cecile:

Good point, glenn.
  10:29am
jill:

Thanks for the tip, Cecile.
  10:30am
glenn:

nick should have married roseanne cash. that probably would have turned out better for everyone.
  10:31am
Patrick:

Good morning trouble! Sitting watching the cats play with a Pom Pom to the soundtrack provided by joe bataan. How's jersey?
  10:33am
Cecile:

Yes, glenn, and if I went back in time, I could have stopped the Lincoln assassination. But what if it brought about giant, impolite woolly mammoths? Or daisies that shot lasers when you tried to pick them?
  10:34am
Fritz:

Dearborn is the Muslim area. It borders Detroit but is way different from Detroit. Dearborn is wealthier than Detroit and is the largest Muslim city in the world that isn't in a predominantly Muslim country. The Muslims in Dearborn came here to be Americans and they should be treated with the same respect that any other American is given.
  10:34am
Cecile:

I read "The Veldt" when I was a kid. Don't mess with that stuff.
  10:35am
listener mark:

Don't WFMU DJs have armies of minions at their beck and call? In pastel colored jumpsuits and matching plastic hard hats?
  10:36am
still b/p:

You can getcha a Star Trek Enterprise Pizza Cutter over thar, too. I'll have three cheese, tomato and carmelized Tribbles.
(And Lowe Alpine gear makers are sayin' "No no, how HIGH can you go?!")
  10:37am
Cecile:

this is what I think the 'fmu minions are like, Listener Mark:

all right
  10:37am
Andrew:

Crowd pleaser!
  10:38am
still b/p:

...and chopped minions.
  10:38am
Cecile:

Right on, trouble.

sbp, I had to draw the line at the carbonite ice cubes. But there's always Valentine's Day.
  10:39am
Lucas:

@Cecile: In taht case maybe is better not to have minions
  10:41am
Minions:

But then what will happen to the unemployment rate?
  10:41am
earwax:

@Cecile I will forever think of FMU listeners as looking just like that!
  10:41am
trouble:

fritz! you said it best, yes! how do patrick and cat chasing pom pom! all is swell here. icepack wants 4thousand legos from santa. i might have to move into an igloo to hold them all. what is santa bringing you this season?
  10:42am
trouble:

mark the minions are still sleeping.
  10:42am
Cecile:

I know! I started calling a certain fruit pah-pple after that...
  10:44am
Cecile:

I also have one large eye and a head shaped like a Twinkie.
  10:45am
Cecile:

Lucas, lol! At least they are enthusiastic.
  10:46am
Andrew:

Guitar birds...
  10:50am
trouble:

andrew: yes! indeed. i am loving this convo that has erupted about "slowe's" as we call it in our house.
  10:52am
Lucas:

Cecile: Yes, we must recognize this quality!
  10:53am
Roberto:

Co-worker was trying to get my attention while my headphones were on. Said I was listening to Television. Response: "oh, what are you watching?"
  10:54am
Lucas:

@Cecile: I say it beacuase I'm enthousiastic too but some people "prefer me not to interfer". You understand?
  10:55am
Lucas:

@Roberto:Lol, I would like television was that good (as Television)
  10:56am
Kurt:

glenn, it's nice to know it's ok to call christians stupid but not muslims.
  10:59am
Cecile:

Yeah, it's spirited. Too spirited for me.
  10:59am
Roberto:

Problem is, some people like being treated like shit.
  10:59am
Joe B:

Happy birthday Tom Verlaine!
  10:59am
Respect Yourself:

Put your hand over your mouth when you cough? Wonder what their response to the Kyoto protocol and the Durban agreement would be?
  11:00am
Davice:

I hate malls and what they stand for! Please patronize your local small businesses!
  11:00am

  11:00am
earwax:

Trouble: Lucky you. No mall xmas carols.
  11:01am
Lucky:

Yes. Oops!
  11:01am
Detroit Mac:

I don't watch the show and I don't shop in large chain stores whenever I can avoid it. As the Gang of 4 said, "Save me from the people who'd save me from my sins. They have muscles for brains"
  11:02am
Jennique:

Yay for crafts and G-L-I-T-T-E-R!!! Trouble, was it you that played those old ads for Legos? I swear I heard something to that effect on FMU.
"Lego build it! Lego build it!"
  11:03am
Davice:

Speaking of shopping . . . I was checking out the "Black friday" videos on You Tube . . . wow, I never realized people could be such animals . . . ANIMALLS! Haha, I made a funny!
  11:05am
earwax:

I have about 10 christian channels on my sat dish 24/7, but no muslim ones. Seems a bit disingenuous to bitch about one program.
  11:05am
robyn:

oh this song makes me sad. :( RIP Trish

  11:16am
Lucky:

I agree. "PC" is a code word. When I hear people use that term I just imagine they are saying, "I am a bigot."
  11:17am
Cecile:

Well, I always get into the spirit with a viewing of the Nutcracker. Either Mark Morris's "The Hard Nut" or whatever the loopy local Ballet of the Dolls puts on. I think this year is a co-production with a burlesque troupe. I love being a grownup.
  11:19am
earwax:

Mark: Thanks. I was aware that 90% of our media is controlled by a small number of companies and getting worse all the time. Thanks to SOPA we may not even have the web for different views. Personally, I try to get all of my news from the FMU comment boards. Much more reliable.
  11:19am
gabrielBum:

you know what's funny? The people promoting that sort of bigotry would not label themselves as PC.If anything, they would accuse their opponents of not allowing them to react against 'muslim propaganda' because of political correctness.
  11:20am
Cecile:

Also, BANANA!
  11:21am

@Brian, Pharoah is always a joy to see.

Hope to see Barry Flanagan's early work next week and maybe buy a Vacherin for Christmas.
  11:26am
Kurt:

Free speach really sucks if you have thin skin and are easily offended which appears to be the case with the PC crowd: "You can't say that, it's not nice." Blah! I say everyone sucks. We're all dirty rotten bastards.
  11:27am
Brian in UK:

Have you seen Vacherin's early work very exciting. (S)he worked mostly in cows milk!!

Cecile:

now, here's a question.

has anyone tried to make the jump from day job to working artist at, um, an advanced age and succeeded? Apart from the usual examples. Also, what kind of schooling do you need?

I need to know, for, uh, a friend.
