Greetings Jeff and Jeff (or is the other way around?).
{Remember to set playlist status to LIVE.}
12:09pm
Jeff G.:
Zoinks. Thanks Doug! And Doug!
12:10pm
Jeff G.:
Doing this remotely, from the bedroom I occupied as a pimply teen, so this is all a little off kilter.
12:11pm
Dervish:
Glad you're back on! Wish we could hear you more often.
12:14pm
Jeff G.:
Thanks, Dervish. That might actually be in the cards in 2012.
12:14pm
Dervish:
Aces!
12:19pm
Dan in Seattle:
Nice to hear you on the stream.
12:20pm
Parq:
Thanks for the FB reminder, Doug - a rare chance to listen to one of your shows live.
12:22pm
Jeff G.:
Thanks, Dan in Seattle! Up early on this holiday Monday?
12:26pm
Doug S.:
Greetings Brother Parq! You picked a good'n to hear. Cheers to all the two- and four-footed creatures at your house.
12:41pm
Jeff G.:
JACK DEJOHNETTE.
12:50pm
Martha:
Who is this Four Bags? Never heard of them.
12:54pm
Jeff G.:
Don't really know that much about 'em, Martha. They dig anagrams, that much I recall.
12:56pm
Martha:
Who doesn't like anagrams?
12:58pm
Doug S.:
Are you kidding. Jeff? Twit-bombs away!
12:59pm
Jeff G.:
@Martha: good question. No one I know, certainly. Signed, A LASAGNA HOG.
1:06pm
Jeff G.:
...and now for another holiday classic...
1:08pm
Doug S.:
Here's a fine LP released on the Anagram label: http://bit.ly/esHjLI
1:11pm
Jeff G.:
Thanks, Doug. Torbjorn Hultkrantz is especially good on that one.
1:11pm
Jeff G.:
(Actually have no idea who Torbjorn Hultkrantz is.)
1:12pm
Richard from Venezuela:
Weasel Walter rocks. The Flying Luttenbachers is classic.
1:13pm
Doug S.:
According to this site: http://matsgus.com/archives/1481 he played with Ayler in Stockholm in '62.
1:14pm
Jeff G.:
Know it all.
1:15pm
Doug S.:
Oh, and that should be Torbjörn. Your intern in charge of umlauts must be on a cigarette break.
1:16pm
Jeff G.:
She quit after an extended Brotzmann set one day.
1:22pm
Dervish:
Øh nø!
1:23pm
Richard from Venezuela:
Like this Dawn of Midi's track. Downloading the free live EP.
1:27pm
Jeff G.:
@Richard: o good. It's quite fine. Their debut on Accretions, "First," is also really great. And they did a live set on Scott McDowell's FMU show last year I think. Looking for the link now...
1:28pm
Jeff G.:
Yeah, here's the Dawn of Midi set on The Long Rally, also downloadable! - http://freemusicarchive.org/music/Dawn_of_MIDI/
1:31pm
Richard from Venezuela:
Awesome. I never heard this trio before. I'll looking forward on their music. Thanks Jeff.
1:50pm
Jeff G.:
My mom just stopped by to tell me, "This isn't really music you just listen to, right? It's more like...background music, yeah?"
Feels like old times.
1:52pm
Carl F.:
I was just saying to my wife the other day that "Ebony and Ivory" has got to be the single worst song ever recorded. The nadir of Jackson and McCartney's careers in one fell swoop, which isn't easy to do. I like Albatrosh more better.
1:56pm
Jeff G.:
@Carl F.: the lyrics to "Ebony and Ivory" -- so cringe-inducing. "The Girl Is Mine" is practically Randy Newman by comparison.
1:59pm
Doug S.:
Back when I was in college, my parents came to visit during a time that I was on the air at my campus radio station. I had played an extended nadaswaram piece from India during that show, and when I got back to my dorm, my mother made a disparaging comment about it. Not sure that she's heard me on the air since, and that was over 30 years ago.
2:01pm
Jeff G.:
Doug, that sounds about right.
"Why don't you play some Sinatra like your brother!!"
2:02pm
Doug S.:
I played some Sinatra on my show a couple of weeks ago and the listeners (well, some of the commenters) let me have it! Made me wanna play more.
2:09pm
Jeff G.:
We are very pro-Sinatra here at D:O.
2:17pm
Jeff G.:
We're also pro-The Sinatra Group: http://www.hulu.com/watch/3531/saturday-night-live-the-sinatra-group
2:21pm
Dervish:
Either your intern came back, or you have another one handling tildes.
2:25pm
Jeff G.:
She taught us tildes before she left. There's a missing cedilla on that SPU album title, though.
Britta, come back! All is forgiven!
2:29pm
Alf From Upstate:
Extra credit for even knowing the term cedilla.
2:31pm
earwax:
Yes. More than once a month, please.
2:32pm
Jeff G.:
earwax! Thanks! Feared the Xmas music might have scared you off (per a comment from Doug's Friday show). Glad you are here!
2:32pm
Mitten John:
I second the more than once a month.
2:34pm
earwax:
it takes more than a little Xmas music to keep me away.
2:35pm
Doug S.:
If I may steal from trombonist Craig Harris: I think you should do a show 24 days an hour.
2:39pm
Jeff G.:
Excellent. Though with more shows per month, we do foresee an increase in the number of 30+ minute tracks.
2:41pm
Dan in Seattle:
Love long tracks.
2:43pm
Mitten John:
I lengthen the long tracks love.
2:44pm
Jeff G.:
Gotcha. That squares: figured y'all for a "less talk, more rawk" kind of crowd.
2:49pm
Martha:
Long short whatever. Just keep playing this great music.
2:53pm
Jeff G.:
We will try!
Here's wishing everyone a happy, healthy, and hopeful new year. Looking forward to chatting again in 2012!
2:54pm
earwax:
Great show!
2:56pm
Jeff G.:
Thanks!
2:57pm
Martha:
!
5:35pm
Brian in UK:
Damn catch you on the rebop.
In the wee small hours of the morning. Oh Frank. A cottage for sale, how much is the deposit?
