Listener comments!

  11:53am
Richard from Venezuela:

Great. Greetings amanda.
  11:56am
Carmichael:

Pre-hello, Amanda.
  11:57am
Van in Dallas:

Hi Amanda, Doug, Richard, Carmichael!
  11:57am
Brian in Uk:

Ah good Richard has turned on the light. Hello Richard. And Carmichael.
  11:58am
Brian in Uk:

And Van. Where's Amanda?
  11:58am
Amanda:

Hello to all of you! The weather here in NJ is kind of meh, and I hope I can improve upon it...
  11:58am
Van in Dallas:

Ha, Brian and I sneak in at the same time! Hi Brian!
  12:00pm
Carmichael:

Hi everyone. It's annoyingly sunny and 70 here. One morning I'll wake up and find it to be 38 and raining. That's how the seasons change in CA.
  12:00pm
Amanda:

Can you guys hear the Hazy Shade of Winter orchestra?
  12:00pm
Van in Dallas:

Darn it, I did it again. What do you mean "Stay tuned for Duane"? ;)
  12:00pm
pgw in mntclr:

yes
  12:00pm
Dervish:

Can barely hear it!!
  12:01pm
Van in Dallas:

Yes, but it's nowhere near as loud as what the mothership just was that I was inadvertently listening to
  12:01pm
Carmichael:

Loud and clear.
  12:01pm
Brian in UK:

It's dark here now at 4:30. Yuk. It's very faint but you are not.
  12:01pm
Richard from Venezuela:

Now all its fine. Hello to all the listeners
  12:03pm
Brian in UK:

Van Inadvertently listening to????
  12:03pm
Dan from Pompton Plains:

The background music was barely audible and your voice level was also way quieter. The level of the stream was way louder and better quality audio than since the swtich. The current track is too quiet and sounds extra compressed.
  12:05pm
Amanda:

Thanks for the advice... we are testing a new stream-switching method and I want to know how it affects the way things sound!
  12:05pm
pgw in mntclr:

Dan = Straight Outta Pompton
  12:06pm
Dan from Pompton Plains:

OK, the volume just improved with the BJ Thomas, but the quality is still poor.
  12:06pm
Brian in UK:

Just baked a loaf & cannot wait to eat the crust. Do any of you have as special name for the crust of a loaf?
  12:07pm
Jacob Juntunen:

Sounds good here in Ohio! Fun to hear your set.
  12:07pm
Brian in UK:

Is there a rain theme 'cause BJ did Rains Drops Keep Fallin' on my Head?
  12:08pm
Van in Dallas:

@Brian - I had inadvertently clicked on the main WFMU Flash stream, not GTDS
  12:09pm
Brian in UK:

Van Freeform listening
  12:10pm
Van in Dallas:

ha ha, you have no idea :) I have another WFMU page open, and on pause with Sunday's special Dark Night of the Soul, mid-way through the presentation :)
  12:12pm
Amanda:

Thanks again guys! Mike Adler (tech master) has just tweaked a few things and hopefully it sounds better now.
  12:12pm
Van in Dallas:

I also have the NPR page constantly open to listen to Kate Bush's new record coming out next week during other times :)
  12:12pm
Brian in UK:

I've done a similar thing, clicked on the non stream show then wondered why the toons do not tie up? Takes ages sometimes to figure out.
  12:13pm
Doug S.:

C'mon Van, go for four simultaneous shows! You can do it Brother!
  12:13pm
Carmichael:

Hey! The 1st Monkees album is still the best.
  12:13pm
Van in Dallas:

ha ha :)
  12:13pm
G:

Yes Van, that can be tricky in my experience -- making sure you actually get to the right stream when you change streams during show changes... I often listen carefully for a song or two to match the title with the lyrics.

It feels really stupid to find you were not on the stream you wanted after multiple songs have passed already! I suspect that cookies on my end may be making decisions about where I really want to connect, based on my last connection...
  12:15pm
Brian in UK:

What is naughahyde? Is that the right spelling? It's mentioned on Pleasant Valley Sunday I think.
  12:15pm
efd:

Hi Amanda and everyone! I've had that Monkees single since I was a little kid, and it's one of my favorite things.
  12:16pm
Brian in UK:

Or was it Alternative Title?
  12:16pm
G:

Fake leather-like covering from the mid 20th century

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naugahyde
  12:17pm
Reality Check:

connotes: cheesy suburban
  12:17pm
Carmichael:

It's fake leather, Brian. People get couches and chairs amde of it on the cheap, instead of actual leather.
  12:18pm
Carmichael:

*made
  12:18pm
Carmichael:

Amanda Morrison!! Go!
  12:18pm
Brian in UK:

Thanks G. My life is almost complete now. See the Monkees return tour was dumped. Tee Hee. Which single was it on?
  12:20pm
Van in Dallas:

Nazario Serenadario :)
  12:21pm
Reality Check:

@Van: Amand-eoke
  12:22pm
Van in Dallas:

I like Van Morrison's first name
  12:23pm
Van in Dallas:

OOoh! Kinks coming up?! :)
  12:23pm
Doug S.:

Sounding better and better!
  12:24pm
Moving Van:

I like my last name.
  12:25pm
pgw in mntclr:

b-side of the air i breathe = carbon dioxide
  12:26pm
Brian in UK:

Saw Scorsese's biog of George Harrison Living in the Material World on TV last weekend. It was very moving.
  12:26pm
Alf from Upstate:

Can you say "duff" on the streamdio?
  12:27pm
Brian in UK:

Alf you can say bollocks if you have a mind to.
  12:28pm
FCC:

We're just audience members here.
  12:31pm
Alf from Upstate:

Keep my nadgers out of this, Brian.
  12:36pm
Amanda:

Heh. Youze are pretty funny audience members. Alf, pgw, Brian, Van, Richard, G, Carmichael, efd, Doug, Jacob, and everyone else both real and made-up, nice to see you all!
  12:39pm
Amanda:

AND I am glad it is sounding good. :-)
  12:39pm
glenn:

amanda.......
  12:41pm
glenn:

you know how the crazy tea party types make senators etc. sign the no tax increase pledge? will you sign the no lou reed / metallica pledge?
  12:41pm
Amanda:

AND glenn!!!

And Dervish, and Dan from Pompton Plains.
  12:43pm
Amanda:

@glenn -- that is a promise that I can't make. If this proves detrimental to my campaign, so be it.

I think I can make it effective for this show, if that is any consolation.
  12:47pm
glenn:

hmmmmmm. i'm not ready to mark my ballot yet anyway. i'll keep your overall record in mind, although i did make a request about a month ago, and haven't heard it yet.
  12:49pm
Amanda:

Oooh! I know, all these things happened with the record fair and stuff, and I forgot about it. Now I remember. Stick around, I'll get to it sometime before 2013.
  12:51pm
Ulul (Spike Jones could never spell):

glenn come down & see me sometime.
  12:52pm
Doug S.:

You do an ID over this track!
  12:52pm
Van in Dallas:

Is Carole King on the playlist today by chance? Your mentioning her earlier makes me want to hear her :)
  12:54pm
glenn:

sure thing, backwards lulu. i'm on the next bus.
  12:55pm
Amanda:

@Doug -- Yep, that is the one! I hope I didn't confuse you into thinking that the stream had gone back into jukebox mode...

@Van -- Probably not, but maybe? I do like her usually.
  12:57pm
Doug S.:

It really did, Amanda. I was scrambling. Funny!
  1:00pm
Brian in UK:

That crust was mighty tasty.
  1:02pm
glenn:

hayden. a good trawna boy.
  1:12pm
glenn:

all music says the booby womack is from 1987. is that right? i have no idea, myself.
  1:12pm
Van in Dallas:

lol, no problem Amanda, and thanks :)
  1:13pm
ndbob:

afternoon Amanda and everyone!
  1:14pm
glenn:

ooops. i meant bobby. really. not a freudian typo.
  1:14pm
Brian in UK:

The Flying Lizards 'singer' qualifys as 'posh bird'.

Hello snowman ndbob.
  1:16pm
Van in Dallas:

Hey! It's a White Lady! :) (love this)
  1:21pm
Van in Dallas:

Dolly?
  1:21pm
ndbob:

indeed Brian - not much snow actually but 23 with a wind chill of 6 now
  1:23pm
Van in Dallas:

Yep, Dolly....I actually prefer her sister is it? Half sister? Something like that? Anyway, the lovely Crystal Gayle...I actually saw her in concert in like, 1979? 1980?
  1:24pm
Carmichael:

Jaysis Bob, you need a winter home somewhere. Else.
  1:24pm
Van in Dallas:

I think I set a playlist comments record just then with five ?'s ha ha
  1:24pm
pgw in mntclr:

i think it's Loretta Lynn who's related to Crystal Gayle.
  1:25pm
glenn:

EILEN JEWELL!!! i heart amanda.
  1:25pm
Amanda:

A cursory search is suggesting that Bobby Womack record came out in 1968.

Hiiii ndbob-sicle!

I love Crystal Gayle too! I am really striking out, white-ladies-wise, it would appear. (I love Loretta Lynn too)
  1:25pm
Van in Dallas:

Right you are! I had forgotten obviously...
  1:26pm
Carmichael:

And they're both related somehow to Kevin Bacon.
  1:27pm
glenn:

with jerry miller on guitar. just to fulfill my daily moby grape related quota.
  1:27pm
Carmichael:

How about Skeeter Davis, Amanda? If not for her name alone.
  1:29pm
glenn:

Debut album from the self-proclaimed "Last Soul Man," who earned his credentials as writer and composer of the Rolling Stones' first U.K. number one. He was also one of the forces behind Sly & the Family Stone's sultry classic There's a Riot Going On. Derived from his 1987 album, this title of honor would have sounded pretentious employed by just anyone. However, with most of the true soul legends gone or lost in the '80s ozone of slick synthesized productions, Bobby Womack remained one of few who stayed true to their art.
  1:30pm
ndbob:

therefore they have an Erdos-Bacon number:).
  1:32pm
glenn:

i can't decide between gene pitney or gene clark for my number one gene guy of rock and roll.
  1:33pm
ndbob:

Tom T. Hall's best record!
  1:34pm
pgw in mntclr:

i bought [at a garage sale] one of those "Gals of Country"/various artists records that had a song by Lorene Mann called "So I Could Be Your Friend" on it. it's a terrific, and highly recommended, song.
  1:34pm
Doug S.:

I LOVE Tom T!
  1:36pm
Van in Dallas:

Hey Doug, wanted to ask you if you've ever come across Master Drummers of Dagbon? Seems like they would be a great fit for your show...had one of their albums long ago and loved it.
  1:37pm
Dervish:

That set was whighteous!
  1:37pm
Van in Dallas:

ha ha @Dervish I loved that set
  1:39pm
glenn:

i think it's pronounced eelen. i heard an interview with her on n.p.r.
  1:39pm
Doug S.:

I have a Dagbon disc here somewhere! I'd be happy to play it...
  1:44pm
glenn:

huh. i was sure that this was the strokes.
  1:45pm
Alf from Upstate:

That eelen was electric.
  1:46pm
Amanda:

Agreed, very Strokes-sounding!
  1:47pm
glenn:

better, i think.
  1:49pm
pgw in mntclr:

this gets my vote for the best song Dan Boeckner's ever written
  1:57pm
Amanda:

This Sonora Pine record is so nice but very hard to cue, as it is on clear vinyl.
  2:00pm
E.L.:

Hey Amanda! Thanks for playing Sonora Pine AND Quasi! Great to hear the show.
  2:01pm
Amanda:

Hahaha! E.L., this Quasi track is from your mix CD. Awesome to see you here!
  2:01pm
glenn:

paint it black.
  2:07pm
E.L.:

HA! Of course! I'll be running back and forth from my drawing board, so I might be scarce on the comments here. Anyway— Portland says hello.
  2:07pm
Dervish:

Master rug weavers of Persia used to intentionally make "mistakes" in their work, in deference to the Gods. You are a humble woman, Amanda.
  2:08pm
ndbob:

i need to go.. excellent music Amanda!
  2:09pm
Amanda:

Thanks ndbob -- catch you later. And aww, thank you, Dervish, for thinking me a master rug weaver.
  2:12pm
Van in Dallas:

That's as close to Crystal as we can get I think :)
  2:19pm
E.L.:

*Gasp*
  2:20pm
efd:

double-*Gasp*!
  2:24pm
Amanda:

Sorry... had to be done!
  2:26pm
efd:

I was mostly gasping at "myspace friend list."
  2:30pm
E.L.:

Those were the days eh efd? Amanda you're totally right— that Quasi track was originally titled Our Happiness Is Guaranteed but on the live disc they list it as "Orbiting Pods." Easier to write out on the set list maybe?
  2:33pm
Amanda:

Yeah or maybe some inside joke. Hmph! Anyway, I trusted your track listing. There's a reason you were in my Top 8.
  2:34pm
Lizardner Dave:

I'm very busy at work so I just have time to drop in and say that I am really enjoying the show. Carry on all.
  2:37pm
Amanda:

Hey, thank you so much Lizardner Dave!
  2:40pm
Doug S.:

I had snacks with R.E.M. in about 1981.
  2:41pm
glenn:

pre fame pretzels?
  2:41pm
Van in Dallas:

A drive by hello from Lizardner Dave! Hi!

I don't know this artist but I'm liking the tune.
  2:47pm
pgw in mntclr:

"Eponymous" was/is a respectable place to start. That may have been one of my first REM... cassettes.
  2:50pm
Doug S.:

All listeners MUST be in full tryptophanic haze to partake...
  2:50pm
Van in Dallas:

Bring Matt in with you Amanda :)
  2:51pm
Artie:

Arriving late. Thank goodness for archives. Go Go Amanda, Go Go Norton 25.
  2:56pm
Amanda:

Hey Artie! Go go indeed -- what a raucous time. Thanks for the whiskey!

@Van -- Matt would love to come, but he has to work that day, and besides I think three's a crowd in this Give the Drummer Some/Nazario Scenario experiment!
  2:59pm
pgw in mntclr:

"Give the Scenario Some Drummer, Nazario"?
  3:00pm
Van in Dallas:

Thanks Amanda, wonderful show!
