efd:

  9:43pm
Joe D.:

oh no wait, just play Rollins "DO IT" like 10 times. That would be good AND be good. For me. Pink Fairies version is also acceptable but less desirable.
  9:44pm
G:

Joe sounds unhenged!
  9:46pm
Little Otter:

Total Control... totally awesome.
  9:49pm
tony:

@G, you mean stoned-henged?

  9:59pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

A rare live listen for me!
EFD--I just learned that forty years ago today the Raspberries recorded Go All the Way--if ever there was a time for an audible...
  10:04pm
cheri:

hey there evan!!! as always another funky show,,, you always deliver!!!
  10:04pm
Stevel:

I believe it was actually "JerryF---ing Shirley" during the first call to the show.
  10:04pm
Tom ( The Bactrian Support Network ):

I am almost sure back in the day was ( A - Piece )
  10:04pm
G:

Better known as JERRY MUTHAF*@%ING SHIRLEY, if I recall coirrectly
  10:05pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

Yes I do
A-piece or A-pici is the correct pronunciation I believe
  10:05pm
Stevel:

G: I stand corrected!
  10:06pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

Yes I do
A-piece or A-pici is the correct pronunciation I believe
I know he uses A-piece while I believe his brother uses A-pici
  10:06pm
G:

Gotta keep the record accurate for posterity!
  10:07pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

Jerry Shirley!!! Didn't he do a morning radio show in Cleveland for a while?
  10:07pm
cheri:

evan keep the funk alive!!
  10:08pm
efd:

Michael, yes he did - and thanks for the Appice pronunciation help. I'll try to find a minute to run to the 'R' section of the library.

Stevel and G, I was trying to maintain a certain sense of decorum on the airwaves, not to mention staying within FCC regulations.
  10:09pm
wiki p.:

After Fastway disbanded, Shirley reformed Humble Pie in the United States and appeared as the only original group member under the name Humble Pie Featuring Jerry Shirley, along with vocalist Charlie Huhn. They performed as this band with a fluid lineup, for ten years, when Humble Pie disbanded once more. During this period, Shirley also worked as a disc jockey at WNCX, a classic rock station in Cleveland, Ohio.
  10:10pm
Stevel:

Live Ones! Very nice. Think I'll make sure to see them if they swing by midAmerica
  10:12pm
cheri:

i'll see you later tonight evan,, bye for now.
  10:14pm
efd:

bye Cheri.

Steve, Live Ones put on a good show, definitely keep an eye out.
  10:14pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

This kind of reminds me of Under the Ice by the Nazz
  10:14pm
Living Doll:

Did he coin those immortal words, "Don't call me Shirley?"
  10:15pm
PB:

The Humble Pie album "Rockin the Fillmore" was pretty good as I recall.
  10:15pm
efd:

I think his father did, actually.
  10:16pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

Wally Bryson rocks!!!
  10:16pm

  10:17pm
Colin from Vancouver British Columbia Canada:

wow, you've hit the reptile brain of my demographic efd!
  10:17pm
Living Doll:

I love this song, I don't care what anyone says.
  10:18pm
Stevel:

I learned all of my bad habits in 6th and 7th grade. Except for having sex, of course.
  10:18pm
Late Period:

Remember, Overnight Sensation by Raspberries? That was a cool one.
  10:18pm
efd:

Oh, I've played Fotomaker. And I will again, but not tonight.
  10:19pm
glenn:

rockin' the fillmore is the best live album ever.
  10:19pm
Stevel:

Colin from Vancover FOR THE WIN
  10:20pm
T. Knight:

Grand Funk Live!!!
  10:20pm
Colin from Vancouver British Columbia Canada:

yo Stevel!!
  10:20pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

Glenn- and it actually might be really live as opposed to Frampton Comes Alive or Wings Over America which were significantly overdubbed
  10:21pm
efd:

There are some interesting stories about that Live At The Fillmore album in Jerry Shirley's book.... we'll discuss next week.
  10:21pm
PB:

Being something of an old geezer myself, I'm also a big fan of 2 other great live albums from the same era as Rockin the Fillmore, Live at Leeds and Get Yer Ya Yas Out.
  10:22pm
Pidge:

EFD - I picked up the "Elevator" LP by The Rollers (formerly Bay City Rollers) this past weekend and it's really good. Have you heard it? Played it?
  10:23pm
Living Doll:

Did the Raspberries do any other good songs?
  10:23pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

PB-- you're right--how could I forget those but I think even those were overdubbed (Ya Ya's is probably my favorite although Live at Leeds is about the greatest kickass performance)
  10:24pm
glenn:

apparently the crowd noise/ applause etc. on lou reed's live (rock and roll animal?) album was lifted from frampton comes alive.
  10:25pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

Living Doll--go out and get a Raspberries greatest hits collection--you won't be disappointed. Tonight, I Wanna Be With You, Let's Pretend, On the Beach and many others are also great songs
  10:25pm
John Waite:

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
  10:26pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

EFD--you going to see the Sonics or the Randy Fuller Four this weekend? Sonics should not be missed
  10:26pm
G:

Go All the Way was banned from play on BBC, which is why I missed it at the time living over there... Lotta power, lotta pop...
  10:26pm
Living Doll:

@Michael, thanks will check it out. So many of these bands, they only had one good song
  10:27pm
PB:

I also love Lou Reed's Take No Prisoners live album, but it's really more of a comedy performance than a musical performance. Lou is really, really funny on that record.
  10:28pm
Living Doll:

So how bad is that Lulu stuff anyhow? I haven't checked it out, I'm afraid. (and I mean AFRAID)
  10:28pm
Laurie:

Lou's gone Senior Metal.
  10:29pm
glenn:

it's mostly pretty bad.
  10:29pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

Raspberries had I think four or five top ten hits and they had many great album tracks (almost forgot "I'm A Rocker" and "Ecstasy" and "Play On")
  10:30pm
PB:

Yeah, what's up with that. I hate Metallica.
  10:30pm
glenn:

then again, i think berlin is the last good lou reed album.
  10:30pm
efd:

Living Doll, completely concur with Michael's Raspberries recommendation, they're really great. Definitely worth your time to check them out.

Michael, not going to any of those shows unfortunately; I'm moving this weekend, so no time.
  10:30pm
Contrarily:

Raspberries had some duds, too.
  10:31pm
Living Doll:

@efd finally emigrating to Canada?
  10:31pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

Living Doll--this Lulu is great
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pUuV3ybvkpc
  10:31pm
PB:

@glenn, The Blue Mask from the early 80s was really good.
  10:32pm
glenn:

we will welcome him with open arms. and beer.
  10:32pm
And The Obligatory:

Metal Machine Music
  10:34pm
Living Doll:

Well yes, everyone likes THAT Lulu. Shame on them for using that name, and I think that's also the name of the site that sells Kurt G's book
  10:34pm
Living Doll:

Blue Mask was terrific!
  10:34pm
PB:

Phil may have been totally crazy but he was also a musical genius.
  10:35pm
PB:

@efd, the ronettes, not the crystals.
  10:35pm
Phil with a Shank:

Crazy??? I'll show you CRAZY!!!!!!!
  10:37pm
efd:

whoops! I knew that! :) Thanks PB!
  10:38pm
efd:

Living Doll, not emigrating to Canada. Yet.
  10:39pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

EFD--did you see Human Switchboard album written up today in Entertainment Weekly online!
  10:41pm
Living Doll:

Love Canada but their winters frighten me
  10:41pm
?:

Hi Evan & everyone!

@PB - I too immensely enjoy Take No Prisoners

On the other hand, Lou/Metellica is truly HORRID, and I can almost guarantee there will be no revisionist reappraisal nonsense.

Re Lulu - Love Loves to Love !
  10:42pm
? = Holly in NC:

sorry
  10:42pm
Living Doll:

Maybe people will buy it out of irony
  10:42pm
Living Doll:

Hi there Holly!
  10:43pm
glenn:

well, new york and area probably got about 50 times more snow than toronto did last year.
  10:43pm
Mrs. Geezer Butler:

I don't like you friends-best record ever
  10:43pm
Living Doll:

Wasn't Roger Moore The Saint as well?
  10:43pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

Holly--here's perhaps my favorite Lulu performance although there are many great ones--who knew she could sing like this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BdpowXkW4ao
  10:43pm
Living Doll:

@Glenn yeah but that was kind of a freak
  10:45pm
glenn:

really? how much snow have you guys had this year? we gots none.
  10:46pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

EFD--is "Do the Screw" on the Philles collection?
  10:46pm
mike east:

Val Kilmer also the saint in the 90's. Always glad to catch some efd! Good evening all!
  10:46pm
Living Doll:

  10:47pm
? = Holly in NC:

@Michael ftLC -
Thank you for the link! I will listen after efd's show :-)
  10:47pm
Living Doll:

We had snow a week and a half ago, and yesterday it was 70. the end is nigh
  10:48pm
glenn:

i guess what i'm saying is - it might have been a freak, but maybe it's the new normal. time will tell. not a single flake of snow. it's been very warm, actually.
  10:48pm
Jeff In Hawaii:

Aloha Evan! Love listening
  10:48pm
Jeff In Hawaii:

Aloha Evan! Love listening
  10:50pm
John L.:

I own a record store, and can usually bluff my way around customer questions regarding a release I don't like:"It's selling pretty well...it's getting good reviews...people seem to like it...blah blah blah." With "Lulu," I find myself shaking my head and saying "it sucks, it really sucks" like I had no control over my speech. Oh well, at least it's retunable. Alas, no one is buying it out of irony.
  10:51pm
Living Doll:

wow that is funny, John
  10:51pm
efd:

Hi Jeff, happy to have you listening!

Hi Mike, I thanked you on air earlier for your pledge but thanks again!

Michael, I don't see that track on there but just scanned quickly.
  10:52pm
Living Doll:

Of course when I think of Lulu, I really think of Ed Norton
  10:53pm
John L.:

No one would want this Lulu to come back.
  10:54pm
Living Doll:

Who thought that was a good idea?? Anyone on FMU played it yet?
  10:54pm
? = Holly in NC:

Hi Living Doll!

I will always truly love Metallica's Ride the Lightning. Not much else since. And let's not bring up Napster...
  10:54pm
cheri:

i'm very sorry evan but i just came back to say good night cause i'm kinda tired it's been a long day.. see you in two weeks,,
  10:55pm
Mrs. Geezer Butler:

Would that it were retunable.
  10:55pm
G:

For a gauge of mainstream customer opinions: On amazon.com, Lulu has twice as many 1 star reviews (the lowest possible) as it has for all other higher scores put together. Brutal.
  10:56pm
? = Holly in NC:

I ffery fmuch flike this ffunny ffriends . ffvery fearly ff90s fonic fouth!
  10:57pm
PB:

Is all this discussion about Lulu as in "To Sir Wth Love" Lulu? I had no idea she had put our a record in the last 40 or 50 years.
  10:58pm
chris :: toronto:

how good is this ffunny ffriends by unknown mortal orchestra? love it.
  10:59pm

Haha, PB. This is the lulu of a Lulu:

http://amzn.to/vqqN9Y
  10:59pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

PB-most of the Lulu discussion here, except my comments and a couple of others refer to the Lou Reed Metallica combination calling itself Lulu.

EFD--Here's the Screw in all it's "glory"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CA4bw7tIPNs
  10:59pm
Living Doll:

I'm not sure I would know a Metallica song if I heard it.
  10:59pm
mike east:

Whoa cool! I'll have to archive. I love hearing my name on the radio!
  11:00pm
Living Doll:

Oh..my..god..it's TWO discs??!
  11:00pm
? = Holly in NC:

@PB - 2 concurrent discussions -good 'to sir' Lulu the often kick-ass singer and bad Lou Reed/Metallica lp unfortunately entitled Lulu
  11:01pm
Living Doll:

hahaha "The thing that should not be!"
  11:03pm
PB:

@Michael and @Holly. Thanks for the clarification. I honestly don't even want to hear the Lou Reed/Metallica collaboration, I'm convinced it will seriously lessen my opinion of a once great artist (Lou, not Metallica).
  11:06pm
Calgon:

Sink in.
  11:07pm
? = Holly in NC:

Re Metallica - I forgot "Am I Evil" ! And yes it's a Diamond Head cover, but sheltered female suburban teenagers were much more likely to hear Metallica first!
  11:11pm
Living Doll:

I still can't get over a guy named Peter Sella(e)rs directing opera
  11:16pm
cheri:

ohh evan i forgot to say thnx for my weekly dose of funk!! night for real.
  11:16pm
Living Doll:

Apparently I shut everyone up with the image of Clouseau's Carmen
  11:17pm
G:

Lulu appalled us into a catatonic state.
  11:17pm
