To continue last night's CKLW topic, research shows in the late 1960's they, WRKO and WOR-FM were all owned by RKO General, thus the similar formats and jingles.

My 21 year old daughter confirms that top 40 radio lives. But let's face it -- all commercial radio is worthless nowadays, without exception.

I have to admit I sometimes like the active rock station because I KNOW I will hear Highway to Hell, Crazy Train and Master of Puppets once per day, without fail.

But those records were made a bazillion years ago...

In addition to the common ownership there were two huge jingle houses at the time that really dominated the business, PAMS and TM -- weirdly, both based in Dallas. Nearly every top 40 station in the 60s and 70s used jingles made by one of those companies, regardless of ownership. PAMS is still around today, but I think they're the only big jingle house left.

Commandos were fun live but now I'm convinced 80% of their appeal was live, the records were mostly souvenirs.

My band records at Old Blackberry Way where the Replacements did one of their albums. The ones that listen to stations like Current and Radio K for some reason think it's awesome, but we record there because we like Neil, the sound engineer

We saw a few shows where they were kind of tired sounding (in retrospect, it was around the time Daddy-O got sick), so we've passed. But it's overdue.
We do have a lovely poster from a Christmas show with the Pontanis a few years back. It is now part of our permanent Xmas collection.
