  3:11pm
Nirvana:

Yes?
  3:12pm
Matt from Springfield:

Wonderful Karen Carpenter impression. But this isn't that other woman Irwin's played, you know the one with a regular name but a dead ringer for Karen Carpenter's voice: who's that singer?

Matt from Springfield:

Thanks JCJ.
  3:21pm
M. Night Shalamalama:

What you didn't realize was you are already dead.
  3:23pm
Matt from Springfield:

Calm down Irwin. Hyperventilating will only accelerate the effects of new carpet smell. You also could get drymouth from loose fibers in the air.
  3:24pm
Home Depot:

Hey, who needs marijuana? When you get new carpet, it's just about the same effect!!
  3:24pm
Larusso Franzese:

He's just constipated, always.
  3:25pm
Gelly:

I just smoke the carpet
  3:26pm
M. Night Shalamalama:

OMG. Yes. It wasn't the carpet...it was THE PLANT
  3:28pm
notify the mice:

"In the early 1990s the Anderson Lab in Massachusetts, run by Rosalind Anderson, PhD, toxicologist, did extensive testing of carpet samples....'One carpet sample caused severe convulsions after the second hour of exposure, and overall, 17 of the 50 mice exposed to the carpet samples died.'"
  3:29pm
glenn:

oh yeah, brian protheroe. i forgot about him. i might even own that rekkid.
  3:30pm

No one, not even mice should be smoking carpet samples.

Come along with me little mouse, on a magic carpet ride.

  3:48pm
Matt from Springfield:

  3:55pm
Matt from Springfield:

It's been a pretty good summer on Irwin's show, nice walk back through the schedule.
  4:01pm

Peter PALMer.
  4:10pm
Matt from Springfield:

@G: So, a lot of people like their radio freeform and their carpet smoked and inhaled.
  4:12pm
Matt from Springfield:

Speaking of drugs, how's that Moon Hooch? Does it make you feel gravity less?
  4:16pm
Ray L:

These Calypso guys are such cat lovers. I think that's sweet.
  4:19pm
das:

After listening to these lyrics I'm beginning to wonder if he's really singing about cats at all.
  4:19pm
slab:

does Irwin know that pussy means something else besides a cat?
  4:20pm
Steve M:

That cat was the fuck I ever had, too.
  4:24pm
Steve M:

"BEST!" Man, I'm getting old.
  4:26pm
Kimmy:

Mommy, the creepy man on the radio is scaring me.
  4:26pm
slab:

lame driver behind me just before i got home minutes ago. he was tailgating inches behind me going down a hill. my turn was coming up and usually at this turn i pull over more to the left so people can go around. but not for this guy. i pulled over more to the right and waited for the oncoming traffic before I could turn. he had to wait awhile trapped behind me. he threw up his hands in frustration.
  4:28pm
Wild neil:

Hi Irwin! You Rock! This sounds vaguely like a clone of early REM....
  4:40pm
Mat:

that was me, Slab.
  4:42pm
slab:

oh, hello, mat. see you at the record fair
  4:42pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

sometimes I'm the impatient driver, sometimes I'm the guy taking it real easy. Yin/yang, right.
  4:43pm
Mat:

hi. just do be that guy who is thumbing through records with no rhyme or reason. have an idea what you're looking for!
  4:43pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

Irwin's got some good numbers today. BONUS TIME.
  4:45pm
Mat:

Irwin this is a good background...to my frustration in life
  4:46pm
Lame Driver:

So I'm on my way to Pep Boys to get my brakes fixed and some slab is riding his brakes all down the hill while I'm standing on mine trying not to rear-end him, then he pulls waaaaaay to the right to make a left turn and now I can't get to the shop before they close. So frustrating!
  4:46pm
Matt from Springfield:

@DCE: I find, driving around the DC area (we're #1! We're #1! In traffic.) that we often "become our enemies"--the longer you drive amidst terrible drivers on the highways here, your patience and alertness wear down, and then you start driving poorly as well.
  4:48pm
Rosie:

I am all about this.
  4:48pm
Laura L:

That's right, Bonus Time for Irwin. You may not have a kitty to stroke, but surely you got a credit card that likes being swiped--give it a virtual swipe up there at the pledge widget, why don't cha.
  4:48pm
Mat:

thats it! i'm #77 all of you!!!!
  4:48pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

I am glad I live in a waning mid-sized city with vibrant cultural/music/arts scenes and less people than you.
  4:50pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

well, that didn't make so much sense. Less people than your city has.
  4:52pm
Matt from Springfield:

Really the roads around here have been saturated and undrivable 30 years now--whenever they build another lane or open a public transport option, all it does is allow for growth in spite of the unmovable traffic. And yes, I understood what you meant.
  4:53pm
Matt from Springfield:

But I've driven in small cities too--it all depends on how they drive. Maryland drivers have a reputation in Virginia for being poor drivers. Some said it was just the less-familiar territory; but when I was in MD, I saw that they don't even drive good on their home turf!
  4:58pm
Matt from Springfield:

The Dan! "I Got The News" from my fav album of their, Aja. Listen for Michael McDonald's backing vocals.
  4:59pm
Matt from Springfield:

Is there an Ajan Studies course around here that needs an instructor?
  5:00pm
Steve Gadd:

...and my coke fueled fills.
  5:00pm
Alan from Boston:

I just saw Steely Dan at the Wang Center in Boston. Pretty good!
  5:02pm
jaycjay:

Seems like McDonald contributed backing vocals for every yacht rock act at some point.
  5:03pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Alan: The WANG Center? Consider the origin of "Steely Dan", that has disturbing implications.
  5:04pm
dale:

i just heard that bert jansch passed away. when my friends were buying kiss i was buying pentangle. i'm bummed.
  5:06pm
Matt from Springfield:

Oh no! You're right, dale!
"Bert's Blues" now becomes "Our Blues for Bert". A brilliant guitarist in English folk. He will be missed.
  5:06pm
Car Commercial:

This sounds familiar.
  5:10pm
Matt from Springfield:

Oh, I just KNOW this is going to be good...
  5:11pm
Irwin:

Either it will be good -- or it will be HORRIBLE and LONG.
  5:11pm
AnAnonymousParty:

Now, THAT's snappy!
  5:12pm
mouse:

somebody roll up some carpet samples...
  5:14pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Irwin: Isn't that the same thing as good?

And btw I continue to be impressed the quality-or-lack-thereof of found recordings.
  5:14pm
Brass Knuckles:

Teenage volleyballers = tight shorts. This song is brilliant.
  5:15pm
Matt from Springfield:

The beauty is that Mr. Wright is SERIOUS about this. Anyone who doesn't destroy something like this is wonderfully delusional about their own talent.

HORRIBLE and LONG and a story with a moral. This song has got it all.
  5:18pm

It's like a musical gizzard. You can just chew it as long as you want.
  5:18pm
Flo Hyman:

Rolling over in my grave
  5:19pm
John North Wright:

Horrible, long and with a MOLE
  5:20pm

  5:22pm
chris:

At least we all know why Bob and Ray's tapes were "lost."
  5:27pm
Mot:

damn.
  5:27pm
Matt from Springfield:

Who will perform "Teenage Volleyballers" at John North Wright's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? Eddie Vedder sounds like a good option...

  5:36pm

  5:42pm
kat330:

Looking at the music list, sorry I missed some great stuff.
  5:43pm
kat330:

What was between Nick Lowe and Moon Hooch? Something minimalistic?
  5:46pm
kat330:

Never mind, sorry.
  5:46pm
Lester Moll:

You mean Dan and Joel audio bit with keyboards?
  5:47pm
Matt from Springfield:

I was away myself when Bob & Ray were on. I enjoy them, will def check out that part I missed later.
  5:48pm
