German Measles live on WFMU!

When German Measles made their WFMU debut, the Queens-based 4-piece consisting of former caUSE co-MOTION!'ers had yet to release any records. While sharing members with Beachniks and McD0nalds, these shambolic popsters have gone on to release a flurry of vinyls on Captured Tracks, Vivian Girls' Wild World imprint, and their latest, A German Joke Is No Laughing Matter, on What's Your Rupture. We'll be treated to a set of ALL NEW material as the Measles reveal the secret behind their name and get amp'd up for a show Sept 27th at Brooklyn's Glasslands with Veronica Falls

  9:23am
Simon:

  9:35am
Cheri Pi:

Where in Japan Christopher?
  9:37am
jason:

heya Christopher who you tourin with in Japan?

Wild Neil that's a great idea -- there are timestamps after the playlist if you wanna go back but they are relation to when the show starts, so right comment would be at 0:36
  9:38am
dc pat:

JASON!!!
  9:43am
Tom G:

Timmy Tumble? Is this who I think it is??
  9:43am
das:

This song is polarizing me, I love it and hate it.
  9:44am
Dead Corporate Eyes:

ok, I was holding my tongue til now, but this is the weirdest thing I've heard yet today and I had to say hi.
  9:45am
Wild Neil:

This band is like Devo...it grows on you!!!
  9:45am
Tom G:

ok maybe not but there are some timmy-isms here, and not just the geographic reference.
  9:45am
BSI:

NOW we're cookin' with blood.
  9:45am
R I S K Y:

GO JASON!!!!!
  9:46am
Wild Neil:

Got any Psychic TV?
  9:49am
Wild Neil:

Jason-
Very eclectic and good show so far! Right on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
  9:49am
Cecile:

My bus driver got lost today. On an express route. With two stops. Oy.
  9:50am
Wild Neil:

"Brand New-bian"!
  9:50am
Wild Neil:

Bummer , Cecile...were you late? What bus?
  9:51am
dc pat:

hilarious Cecile, never even heard of that before...
  9:52am
Wild Neil:

Free-dumb?
  9:53am
Tom G:

Paul never disappoints:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=043DK0OFvlY&feature=fvst
  9:53am
Cecile:

Yes. it was the express bus between Minneapolis and St. Paul. Had to walk a quarter of a mile to not be really really later. Not that I mind, but I usually like to have some say in it.
  9:53am
Wild Neil:

He was probably assigned to that route because it is impossible to foul it up...guess he was an expert fool...
  9:53am
Bad Ronald:

Macca:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M17qFKXSMiw
  9:54am
Cecile:

Yes she was.
  9:54am
Wild Neil:

Cecile, do you ever re-create Mary Tyler Moore's walk in the opening credits, then throw your hat in the air? Just wondering...
  9:55am
Cecile:

I pretend REM broke up after Fables of the Reconstruction. That makes me happier.
  9:55am
REM:

What about our retirement fund?
  9:56am
grubbus:

yeah! Boy-Pavement
  9:56am
Cheri Pi:

Jason, this makes my day!
  9:56am
Cecile:

I recreate her riding up the IDS tower stairs, looking tired.

@REM, England will always love you.
  9:57am
grubbus:

high school-time after time is not my least favourite song
  9:57am
pgw in mntclr:

this song was the start of my weird journey from an r.e.m. obsessive to a pavement obsessive
  9:57am
dc pat:

Yeah, this is perfect.
  9:57am
Cecile:

I also pretend Pavement don't exist much of the time.
  9:59am
das:

Great lyrics
  9:59am
Cecile:

My preferred kind of falling apart on record I guess is different than Pavement's. They do have good taste in music and have turned a lot of people on to good bands I like. And the one time I saw them for free, they played Mr. Show clips as an opening act.
  9:59am
Wild Neil:

Very cool...u rok, J!
  10:02am
annie:

cecile!!!!!!!!!!!!
  10:03am
dc pat:

When I first heard Pavement I thought, "well this is good, but I could just listen to Sonic Youth, DinosaurJr, and Redd Kross..."

Now I like them a lot more.
  10:04am
Cecile:

annie!
  10:05am
dc pat:

..and Soul Asylum..
  10:07am
grubbus:

@ DC pat pavement embodies something very much more bohemian and drunk than do Sonic Youth-I love Dino Jr. The coolest T-shirt ever; 12yr old girl w/cifarette dangling
  10:07am
hauswölf:

German Measles.
Finalich.
  10:07am
grubbus:

oops
  10:10am
das:

Nasal Swab
  10:11am
Cecile:

grubbus, I can dig it, but I got that from the Axemen. The minute Pavement does their 3 Version Virgins Visions, I'll be all ears.
  10:12am
Cecile:

I can't help it. I'm a codger.
  10:13am
Cecile:

get off my lawn.
  10:14am
das:

Mild infection
  10:14am
dc pat:

grubbus: not the point, I didn't think their sound was anything original at the time. But now I like them.
  10:14am
Cheri Pi:

I'm really digging these Measles
  10:15am
das:

little red
  10:16am
das:

Spontaneous abortion
  10:16am
das:

Symptoms of German measles make cool band names
  10:17am
Stevel:

Measles are good for you.
  10:17am
fred von helsing:

cool stuff !
  10:17am
Cheri Pi:

Are Pavement still "together?"
  10:18am
das:

Depends how you prepare them
  10:18am
Parq:

Cheri, you have a "kill list" going or what?
  10:18am
dc pat:

they just played at Primavera didn't they? It sounded great to me.
  10:18am
Dead Corporate Eyes:

Pavement only reunited for a year to tour and cash in. They don't have any future plans from what I've read.
  10:20am
Cecile:

Okay, another thing that peeves me is bands reuniting to play their good albums. Okay, it was fun when Cheap Trick did a 3 night stand a decade ago. And the GBV Tobin Sprout tour. But most of them?!??!?! Who the hell cares that Frampton Comes Alive turned 35? My GOD.
  10:22am
dc pat:

I liked Buzzcocks playing first 2 albums..
  10:23am
grubbus:

what's wrong with cashing in-don't hate.
J. mascis did his thing too and Dino got back together...everybody grows up and sometimes apart..and then back together again..If seeing a band play as a whole is your definition of together than yes-Pavement is still together and so is Dino Jr. who'd a thunk Lou Barlow would ever go back for more bitch slaps from mascis, but love hurts as they all like to remind us in their music...back to work everyone...have fun!
  10:26am
Cheri Pi:

Well, my current pet peeve is tomorrow night's "Kyuss Lives" tour. Mr. CP's knickers are in a twist about it so he's had his ticket for months. I'll be staying home in Ohio.
  10:28am
Cheri Pi:

oops, it's "Kyus Lives!"
  10:28am
Cecile:

It all feels like the "hardcore re-enactment" article from Motorbooty to me. i don't mind bands that include songs from all eras in their shows. AC/DC are masters at that. But between you, me and the tree, I'd rather see folks like Wire or the Fall who are: "Move forward!"

i'd see "Kyuss" live. Josh Homme was never my favorite part of that band.
  10:28am
dc pat:

well I'm going to the Scratch Acid reunion, nothing bad about that...
  10:29am
Cecile:

I'm in a mood. Lost bus, and IS going in to my computer, dinking with my graphics tablet and putting my mouse where I couldnt' find it. Oy.
  10:29am
Cecile:

As long as they don't play the songs in order. i don't mind reunions. Just mix it up. Maybe write some new songs.
  10:30am
dc pat:

yeah, new tunes...
  10:30am
Parq:

Personally, I thnk the whole "Performs XYZ Album In Its Entirety" thing has gotten tiresome, but then I'm not as fond of looking back as my age might make people assume.
  10:31am
dc pat:

ECHO Echo echo....
  10:31am
Cecile:

same here, Parq
  10:31am
jason:

this is the type of song that gets stuck in my head for eternity
  10:32am
Parq:

As long as I'm ignoring work, I'd like to add that this German Measles set is great. Hard to pull off being simultaneously hard and tuneful, but they're doing it.
  10:32am
Wild Neil:

Niagara Falls is dangerous...lots and lots and lots of crime...I am NOT kidding...Niagara Falls, Ontario, however is really really really cool and nice....
  10:32am
dc pat:

Jason, you guys ever thought of getting an "audience" of maybe 10 people in there for some ambiance?
  10:32am
Cecile:

ITA, Parq. The guitarist is feeling it. Nice flinty sound.
  10:33am
Wild Neil:

Riminds me of the Feelies a bit....Good job, guys!!! You Rock!
  10:35am
pgw in mntclr:

that (very) old Allan Havey talk show on Comedy Central used to have an "Audience of One"
  10:36am
Bad Ronald:

Great set. Who's the board op?
  10:37am
Stevel:

[clap clap clap clap clap clap clap clap clap clap clap clap clap clap clap clap clap clap clap clap clap clap clap clap clap]
  10:37am
Cheri Pi:

I detect shades of the Clean & Hayvanlar Alemi.
  10:38am
jason:

i am the board op!

shades of Hayvanlar Alemi? That's an awesome concept. I think they're definitely inspired by The Clean
  10:39am
Bad Ronald:

Sweet Jason, thanks!
  10:40am
Cheri Pi:

tell the superman joke on the Board.
  10:41am
jason:

the superman joke isn't radio safe
  10:42am
Wild Neil:

Yeah, tell us the joke, huh? Don't TEASE us like that!!
  10:42am
Wild Neil:

Yeah, but you can tell US, we won' tell!
  10:42am
jason:

something about the invisible man...
  10:43am
das:

Jason, just substitute the word peanut for cock
  10:46am
jason:

here i found the superman joke at james' joke archive http://terhune.net/jokes/ser0011.html
  10:46am
Parq:

"Wonder Woman opens her eyes and says, 'Did you hear something?'" That one?
  10:46am
Bad Ronald:

Wonder Woman: What was that?
Invisible Man: I don't know but it hurt like hell.
  10:47am
Parq:

Ah I was gonna dig it up, but I see Jason has already done so.
  10:47am
das:

Now lets bury it again
  10:48am
Cheri Pi:

pfttt... snicketty snicketty snickers...
  10:52am
Cecile:

That Jealousy song was pretty great.
  10:56am
Bobby Boulders:

Rock and/or roll. Great show Jason.
  11:02am
Cecile:

Jason, if you have any Bobby Fuller kicking around there and feel the urge to slip it on, that would be great
  11:06am
dc pat:

that joke is impossible because Superman, Wonder Woman, and Batman are DC but Spiderrman is Marvel.
  11:07am
bill:

Puce Moment - pron. "pyoos"
  11:12am
Cecile:

Brisbane, home of the Saints!
  11:18am
maja:

hi jason hi all, great show!
  11:19am
Ike:

Is that Donahue?
  11:29am
Cecile:

Ah, nice to hear from Assif Tsahar. Saw him with Susie Ibarra about 10 years ago, during they were married.
  11:35am
Cecile:

Hopscotch is Tsahar's label, isn't it?
  11:36am
jason:

yes it is Cecile! and a good one
  11:42am
Cecile:

he moved back home.
yes, it is. Really good musis, I have several CDs from them.
  11:48am
Glenn L:

The Limes!!!!
  11:53am
Blake:

Sounds like dubbed cassette tape recording of a dubbed cassette tape recording played through a tape recorder held up to a microphone.
  11:56am
BSI:

delayed response, but the zabriskie stuff was very welcome right there...
  11:59am
Ike:

I agree, BSI. That whole set stood out in an already excellent show. Tasty audio!
  12:00pm
pierre:

oooh non pas déjà !
  12:36pm
jason:

thanks everybody for helping us track this down!
