Listener comments!

  3:13pm ?:

Is this a different mix of London's Burning? Sounds much louder...
  3:14pm fred:

That song may seem obvious, but you're the one person who can pull it off and make it a perfect start for what I'm sure will be another great show
  3:16pm Cori:

I just wanted to say I look forward to your show EVERY Saturday! Today I'm rocking out while preparing myself for Monday's job interview. Teachers can be hip, too! P.S. Yes, I answered the math question correctly the first time.
  3:22pm fred:

Good luck for the interview, Cori, I'll be knocking on any piece of wood coming my way! Are you a math teacher?
  3:25pm Cori:

Thanks, fred! No, I'm an elementary teacher. I've been working in education since I graduated 3 years ago, but this is my first chance at my own classroom (1st gr). So hopeful!
  3:26pm folktheatre:

loving the show but I'm a bit ashamed of the riots over here! great show though.
  3:30pm fred:

@Cori: Rocking out isn't a bad thing in my book. I happen to know a bunch of teacher who are also musicians. You can find some downloadable stuff here: http://www.lespotagersnatures.org/
It's in French, but try the "catalogue" entries on the right. Api Uiz is pretty cool and does feature a math teacher on bass. Check out Chocolat Billy (my fave french band) and Radikal Satan too.
  3:31pm fran:

best rrriot soundtrax !!
  3:31pm jaycjay:

Some of my best friends are teachers, and they're all cool!
  3:31pm fred:

@Cori (again): I can relate: my sister in law teaches 1st gr and most of my mother's family are teachers (a dozen or so)
  3:33pm Cori:

Yet another reason why I love WFMU: fantastic music recommendations and teacher appreciation! Thanks!
  3:34pm kevin:

I hated that song the first time, still hate it today, sorry and bye
  3:34pm -jaak-:

Not been able to tune in to the show for a while now, but every time I come back I realize ... this is the BEST radio show in the whole fucking universe EVER !!!!!
Hugz to you, Terre!
  3:35pm JT:

now i wanna riot
  3:36pm Stevel:

Media is making me want to riot as well. No other explanation for it.
  3:37pm Constable Alf:

Carry on...
  3:37pm fred:

I don't know much about the US system, but in here in France the school breaks make for great touring opportunities!
Note to students: if your teacher is cranky, he might be just back -- as in just off the van -- from a week-long tour spanning half a dozen countries
  3:38pm Dispicable kid:

Make me, copper!
  3:41pm -jaak-:

Hey Fred, I'll check out your 'potagers natures' link some time soon (living in France myself ;-) )
Can be interesting!
  3:42pm fred:

@-jaak-: the core is in Bordeaux, but by now some are around Paris. Where are you in France?
  3:45pm -jaak-:

The capital of the Corbières ...
  3:45pm Constable Alf:

...right then.
  3:46pm Dispicable kid:

...OI, that hurts!
  3:46pm robert:

wow, this program is awesome
. i'm so glad i found it. i'll be a regular listener for sure!
  3:46pm keef:

loving the deep purple-very different. keeps the hard rock coming. maybe some stooges or dictators
  3:49pm fred:

@-jaak-: Too bad, I don't think I know anyone in your local scene, the closest are in Tarbes or Montpellier.
But if you have some recommendations, I'm all ears
  3:56pm Larry Wallis:

I'm a Police Car!!!
  3:57pm jezebel:

Rebel girl..rebel girl..rebel girl...
  3:58pm Cori:

fred, I would love to have the opportunity to tour Europe (especially Spain where I have family) over my summer break. For now, I'm making an hourly wage (yes, you read that correctly) teaching, so it's not possible. But I'm the type of person who works toward goals, so I'll make it happen eventually.
  4:02pm fred:

Cori, I should be used to it with my family's history, but I'm always dismayed at how little teachers make. I think it shows how skewed are our society's priorities. Traders make boatloads to drive us all into hell, and teachers get scraps. Rioting looks reasonable right now.
  4:06pm Danne D:

yay Terre T! :) awesome (and topical) first set!
  4:06pm Danne D:

wow Frenchee is in the house! :) Be nice to her would-be ticket winners!
  4:08pm Skirkie:

Did you say geotech?
  4:09pm fred:

Hey Danne! Will you try to check in early tomorrow? I think it means a lot to Keili when you make the effort, and I think she can use the cheering up these days. You can go back to sleep later...
  4:14pm fred:

BTW, it was mighty cool of you to be up so early when she came back. I'd offer to buy you a drink for that, but you don't drink, so I'll be rooting for the Bengals all year for that.
  4:18pm Basher:

Bowi!
  4:21pm Basher:

I Love the sound of "Breaking Glass"!
  4:25pm Cori:

@fred - Yes, it is a dang shame. Even as a kid, it didn't make sense to me. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that what our culture regards as valuable will change anytime soon. :-/
  4:32pm hguabsrehtoM kraM:

SLYT - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DwW6u6A-rIU
  4:32pm fred:

@Cori: But you're here, going with your heart against the grain, and that's proof there's hope. That's why I'm rooting for you to nail that interview. You know what you're getting into, but still want in. That's crazy in the totally great way WFMU DJs are.
  4:33pm -jaak-:

Lego's turn on the situation of the week ....
http://www.thepoke.co.uk/2011/08/13/the-week-in-pictures-13-8-11/
  4:34pm Danne D:

Hi Fred, I'll do my best. It's difficult :( I'm not good at the morning thing. LOL Thanks for your rooting for the Bengals - they are going to need all the help they can get I'm afraid (though I was okay with how Dalton did yesterday actually) :)

PS - go Cori :) I'm sure you'll do great!
  4:38pm fred:

@Danne: Full disclosure: I did check first that they weren't scheduled against my team before making that promise
  4:42pm Danne D:

LOL - who is your team, fred? :)
  4:44pm dudep:

love this gee-tar on the ettes track
  4:45pm Skirkie:

I love the everything on this Ettes track.
  4:46pm fred:

I may be french, but I went to the US for a couple of weeks in high school, in Foxboro of all places. That was in '88, they sucked back then..
  4:46pm dudep:

ok, I'm on board
  4:49pm Danne D:

I knew Ocho was gonna end up with your team, Fred. I've figured on that happening for a couple of years now.
  4:49pm fred:

@danne: not saying the name, this is a NY area crowd, it might draw lightning bolts.
  4:50pm Danne D:

lol - it would only draw lightning bolts if you were in San Diego ;)
  4:52pm fred:

@danne: that's weird, but I too had that feeling it would make sense. Ain'tworth is more of a stretch. I really hope your owner gets some sense and seriously builds around Dalton. There's potential there.
  4:52pm Kath:

Great show today, Ter. Bringing me back to the old SIA days. Hope you can make it to the reunion.
  4:53pm jaycjay:

Hey, I love talking about the Patriots. It reminds me of that great 2008 Super Bowl!
  4:54pm Stevel:

This is VERY, VERY cool. Not going anywhere till this is over.
  4:54pm Danne D:

I was ecstatic with the Dalton pick - perfect fit for the offense they are installing. I DVR'd the NFL network replay of the game - looking forward to seeing how Andre Smith looked.
  4:55pm Cori:

Yes! Sorry to report I am a Giants fan, fred. :-P And I appreciate the support, Danne D!
  4:59pm fred:

In a sense I was relieved by that ending. I love Boston, but they were getting so cocky with the Sox suddenly winning, a perfect season would have made them (us?) way more annoying that the '72 Dolphins. They just had to be brought down a peg or two
  4:59pm Destiny Pete:

Ivan Rocks! Bless Bobby - Thanks Terre, Peace!
  5:03pm Jonanonymous:

Ivan Julian used to come into the bar/restaurant I worked at precisely 5 minutes before the kitchen closed at midnight and would order a glass of red wine and a chicken sandwich. Next to the window, he looked like a prince. And he is. Several years later, I saw him on the corner of Metropolitan and Union Aves. with Ovid's Metamorphoses under his arm. How poetically just for the man. Cheers. Ivan!
  5:03pm Danne D:

I'm from New Jersey, we don't have an NFL team :(
  5:04pm Nate K:

Ivan Julian is killing it!
  5:06pm fred:

Cori I hope you'll tell us all about how it went, though I'm sure you'll do great. Your drive won't be denied!
  5:07pm Ron:

Holy crap - Ivan Julian is ON FIRE!!!!! Thanks, Terre!
  5:07pm Danne D:

great set :)
  5:09pm fred:

Of course it's great! Terre T hosting Ivan Julian, how else could it turn out?
But hearing the awesomeness still beats the expectation, somehow
  5:16pm Skirkie:

There's 2 NFL teams in NJ, they just don't want to admit it.
  5:16pm Listener Jumpy from Brooklyn:

Soundin' good!
  5:17pm Stevel:

Wow again!
  5:17pm jaycjay:

Great! I was hoping he'd do Blank Generation!
  5:17pm _________:

Generation!
  5:18pm jaycjay:

True Skirkie. As we used to say when I was living in Buffalo: "home of New York's only pro football team!"
  5:23pm fred:

Diane and Mike did a great job again! Terre I love that you give their rightful props to engineers, it's so rare yet so deserved
  5:28pm Danne D:

uh 91.1 signal appears to be down :(
  5:29pm Seminal:

i don't hear anything
  5:29pm SueP:

The webstream is also down.
  5:29pm Nate K:

Is the stream out?
  5:29pm Danne D:

back on now
  5:30pm Blacksmith Charlie:

Holy F; he KO'd the transmitter
  5:30pm SueP:

It's back!!! (webstream)
  5:30pm fred:

It's back!
  5:31pm jaycjay:

Figures. Give props to engineers and immediately some technical issue will occur! (And I'm an audio engineer, btw)
  5:32pm scott:

haha it was great
  5:33pm fred:

I should have know better than to tempt the technical snafus gods; this one's on me
  5:35pm Ron:

Thank you for doing the song again, Ivan!
  5:52pm fred:

Will he please play in Paris, France?
  6:01pm jaycjay:

Defnitely will pick up The Naked Flame!
  3:45am matteo:

Great
