Casey Rae-Hunter (Future of Music Coalition) & Sherwin Siy (Public Knowledge)	talkin' Copyright Alert System & Center of Copyright Information			[10 AM] On July 7th, America's major Internet Service Providers, music, and film industries announced an agreement to cooperate on anti-piracy measures. They will establish an Orwellian "Center for Copyright Information" to monitor Peer-to-Peer networks, and to send out Copyright Alerts. The six alert levels start out as educational warnings, but may escalate to "mitigation measures" including the disruption of Internet access. Casey Rae-Hunter is Deputy Director at the Future of Music Coalition, a nonprofit working to ensure a diverse musical culture where artists flourish, are compensated fairly for their work, and where fans can find the music they want. Casey issued this statement on behalf of the FMC. Sherwin Siy is Deputy Legal Director and Kahle/Austin Promise Fellow at Public Knowledge, a public interest group working to defend your rights in the emerging digital culture. 	10:07am Parq: 'Cile, for decades now, both Democrats and Repubs have made it a priority to fill the state and federal benches with openly pro-business (i.e., pro -plutocracy) judges, so it's very unlikely that a court would overturn this, even if it were a matter of law, and it's probably not.
	10:10am Cecile: I'm not anti-business, some laws are useful, but lack of freedom for consumers is bad for business in the long run.

	10:15am Cecile: Exactly. I want the artists paid. I don't want to fund some exec's kid's private school - unless he or she is really doing their job.
	10:16am Cecile: King Sun, the rapper, was burned by piracy. He said more bootlegs sold of his music than legit releases.

YEARS ago they could have owned P2P, using it as a method to "release" low quality teaser/tasters Instead, they are reactionary and now trying to catch up to lots of missed opportunities. How does this all fly in the face of the U.N. declaring intrernet access as a human right?

I've known a few people in the mainstream music biz, and for years I've been listenting as they smugly explained that the entire body of thought of which FMU is an avatar simply doesn't exist. The fact that they could make more money if they saw the light is their problem.
