  3:21am
Adam in Portland:

I was a security guard for about six months just out of university. One of the stranger jobs I've ever had. I saw a lot of deer and illicit late-night office building trysts. I know that world.
  3:21am
Adam in Portland:

Like I said, no offense meant. We can agree that Julie is a fine, fine host.
  3:22am
Sal:

PA baby
  3:22am
jaycjay:

@Julie, Wikipedia tells me that 'Illegitimi non carborundum is a mock-Latin aphorism meaning "Don't let the bastards grind you down"'.
  3:23am
Sal:

i know its a thankless job but atleast i am doing an honest living.
  3:23am
jaycjay:

This is one of those shows, apparently, where most of the playlist conversation will leave me having no idea what is going on.
  3:23am
Adam in Portland:

Me too! Hahaha.
  3:24am
Adam in Portland:

Sal, thank you, and I mean that sincerely.
  3:25am

  3:28am
Adam in Portland:

When I was a security guard I listened to a lot of Elliott Smith on the job. Not a bad time at all.
  3:29am
Julie:

Why, thank you, Sal. But if there was something cruel, I did not see.
  3:29am
Marmalade kitty:

Thank you for the Anti War songs. with out war there would be no need for Memorial day. ****Memorial day and fuck War!
  3:30am
Sal:

  3:31am
Julie:

@MK you're welcome..sorry to mess up the Donovan. UGH.
  3:32am
jaycjay:

MK, my memorial set at my bar tonight kicked off with Stiff Little Fingers' "Tin Soldiers" and continued in that vein of respecting the individuals caught up in war but not those powers and governments that put them there.
  3:32am
Sal:

i once saved a female that was nearly choked to death and saved another women from getting hit by a beer glass.

  3:54am
Sal:

  3:54am
jay:

the first time i heard interpol i was about 3 tabs in deep and my sense of hearing was so dam sensitive. it was in baltimore, virgin festival 2007. it was great, but too bad i lost my friends at the time becos they missed out on a great great band live. will never forget

  3:56am
jaycjay:

73 right now here in Brooklyn. And muggy. Not complaining though; I heard someone today complaining about the heat and I was thinking... wow, you're in for a long summer! It's been in the 80s for all of three days so far.
  3:56am
Adam in Portland:

I worked at a place called Holland Hitch Co. one summer when I was around 13 years old. Don't remember what city however.
  3:56am
Adam in Portland:

Oops, I should have mentioned it was in NJ.
  3:57am
Sal:

I LOVE WFMU
  3:58am
jaycjay:

Adam, Google puts it in Whitehouse, NJ... at least currently.
  3:58am
Sal:

  4:00am
Adam in Portland:

Thank you, jaycjay! You are a champ. I drilled pins all day. Ugh. Haha. But loved my co-workers, almost all of whom were my seniors by at least 20 years or more.
  4:04am
Adam in Portland:

I mostly dogsat three dogs, but also saw a very moving and inspirational documentary called The Interrupters, about the work of Chicago's Ceasefire organization.
  4:04am
helsingfred:

Marmalade kitty:

  4:11am
Julie:

Motorhead? Scratching my head here.
  4:12am
Marmalade kitty:

I have to start a band!
  4:14am
Julie:

Oh, and in case you didn't read the description on the site, Tony Visconti co-engineered this.
  4:16am
Marmalade kitty:

Kristeen is great! Good job Julie! Where does she hail from?
  4:17am
Julie:

@MK I am all for starting bands!
  4:17am
Julie:

@MK Originally St. Louis, but she lives in NY now.
  4:32am
Marmalade kitty:

Kristeen has a slight Morrissey shrill on the end of her- you can"tryyyy" ;) love it!!
  4:33am
Marmalade kitty:

Morrissey box
  4:34am
Julie:

Funny you bring him up...
  4:35am
Marmalade kitty:

meat!
  4:36am
Marmalade kitty:

(never speak of such things with Moz the dictator!)
  4:38am
jaycjay:

That Morrissey thing was ridiculous. That anyone in the crowd would be offended by the comment is silly; it's just that it referred to Morrissey himself that brought any reaction. It was clearly joking, but the Morrissey Empire couldn't accept it.
  4:39am
Julie:

Yeah unfortunately we can't repeat the comment on the air, but feel free to google
  4:39am
jaycjay:

heh... I don't have to, I remember it. But I'm sure it's easily located.
  4:44am
Marmalade kitty:

I'll have to look that one up! I wasn't aware of the Moz thing, just an observation, of her similarities with said moz shrill. Wow, that is a story!
  4:47am
Marmalade kitty:

Oh dear!!
  4:51am
Julie:

@MK ha so you see why I couldn't ask her to say it, though I doubt she would have.
  4:53am
Marmalade kitty:

what ever happened to Rock & roll.. lol!!
  4:53am
joe:

never heard this version before
  4:56am
jaycjay:

I grant that in retrospect it's probably not something that an unknown supporting act should say but yeah../ MK has it right. This is rock n roll? Well, no, I guess not. It was Morrissey.
  4:56am
Julie:

Is this a cover? Shows how much I know!
  5:01am
Marmalade kitty:

@jaycjay: You're dead right about the Morrissey Empire. Going to BIG gigs these days turns my stomach, I cant stand the sycophantic music scene. Didn't Morrissey write about that?
  5:05am
jaycjay:

I see relatively unknown local and touring bands a few times a week, some good and some really not but all having fun, as are their crowds (which sometimes isn't the right term). So much more enjoyable to me, really, than seeing someone "huge". And the interrelationships between bands that really respect each other, even when they're doing something completely different, is the best.
  5:07am
jaycjay:

Gotta cut out, short work week means I can't put off work as late tomorrow as I usually do on Tuesdays. Julie thanks as always for a great show; I'll look forward to hearing the final hour on the archive.
  5:08am
Julie:

@Jay thanks! Goodnight!
  5:09am
Marmalade kitty:

Have a nice week J!!
  5:12am
stump:

Good morning Julie and all .
I love to start my Tuesdays here.
  5:12am
Julie:

Good morning, Stump!
  5:19am
Marmalade kitty:

I must sound like a miserable oldie! the price of drinks, health and safety people cattling at huge gigs all too much!
  5:21am
Julie:

@MK agreed. Brendan Perry plays tomorrow night and I'm debating going because it'll be crazy. I saw Eliza last week, nice cafe, very relaxed.
  5:24am
Marmalade kitty:

Brace yourself! I'm sure you'll be fine ;)
  5:26am
Julie:

Meghan won't be going which was a surprise, but maybe when he's back with DCD
  5:27am
Brick Van Dee:

Only just tuned in - Can't believe I missed more Floyd!
  5:27am
Julie:

@Brick! There is often Floyd!
  5:36am

Looks like I missed an outstanding show! Time to play serious catch up thanks to wonderful WFMU archives! :)
  8:46pm
Matt from Springfield:

Hi Julie! Sorry I didn't make the Kristeen Young set--it was as great as I thought it would be! Listened to it that Tuesday, just leaving some comments now!

And you even remembered "Have You Ever Worked With Anything In Hi-Tek?" for me! :)
You're right, it is so different from her current material, though it's surprising she came up with it without ever listening to Kate Bush--this is the song that links them in my mind.
  8:49pm
Matt from Springfield:

"In the Navy" to start off Fleet Week?! I shoulda expected something like that!
And Cocteau Twins, Love's Easy Tears! The title track was very good--I prefer the live TV version of "Orange Appled" to the LET release, but LET itself I admit was lovely.
  8:54pm
Matt from Springfield:

Claire Voyant, love her! But Black Devil Disco Club?? Are you QUITE SURE that was Nancy? ;)

"If You Were A Priest" was some great Robyn Hitchcock to follow up. And "Straight Shooter", heard that a while back but haven't listened to that in years. And Padang Food Tigers, the newest contagious New Bin item! And I heard them HERE first!
  8:57pm
Matt from Springfield:

Looking forward to Eliza Rickman tomorrow, I WILL be able to make that! Glad you'll still be on the summer schedule too!
