  12:05pm
Howard Hughes:

I forget which unit this is. When did I buy them? Anyone seen my nail clippers?
  12:06pm
dc pat:

Joe Spence!! yes.
  12:07pm
DJ ManRich XXIII:

I have a funny feeling it's gonna be a 'listen to WFMU all day' day. Sounds great, Kurt!
Greetings from the sunny PNW!
  12:11pm
BodegaMan:

Hi-D Ho KG.

MN Jeff is pushing the limits of what an animated .gif can do.
  12:15pm
Handsome Harry:

I don't feel tardy.
  12:16pm
dc pat:

LA Drivers Union Por Por Group!!! Yes!
  12:19pm
Howard Hughes:

GIFerrific!
  12:20pm
BodegaMan:

Handsome Harry, I spent the later part of my evening in a drunken praise/critique conversation about DLR. Thanks for reminding me.
  12:21pm
DJ KG:

hi everyone! and yes, beautiful work from minnesota gif. if he keeps outdoing himself, imagine what might happen in another month!
  12:21pm
Marmalade Kitty:

Vuvuzela!!!
  12:32pm
?:

Yeah!
  12:33pm
Marshall Stacks:

Not many DJs would dare try that segue. Well done.
  12:34pm
DJ KG:

and then to others it just seems natural. thanks, stax.
  12:34pm
BodegaMan:

!!! appropo of this weeks Voice piece too.
  12:36pm
hamburger:

never heard of poly styrene till the news of her death :/
  12:39pm
Julie:

Hiiiiiiiiii Kurt!
  12:44pm
Andy S.:

This show is what Ken Freedman must have been referring to when he once told me: "Andy, you're not supposed to be able to listen to WFMU all the time!"
  12:45pm
Gaiwan:

Oh, this is brilliant!!
  12:45pm
Julie:

I am here because I want to hear Miley's Smells like Teen Spirit before Irwin gets his hands on it.
  12:46pm
DJ KG:

what? where is it, julie? i'll play it!
  12:48pm
Military Industrial Complex:

Barry was trainable, after all.
  12:49pm
Handsome Harry:

Cruci-make-love-tos - I thought they were from Michigan.
  12:49pm
dc pat:

CHRISTIANITY IS STUPID!

Julie:

http://nymag.com/daily/entertainment/2011/05/miley_cyrus_smells_like_teen_s.html
  12:50pm
Julie:

It's actually not that bad. It's just Miley bashing and Cobain deifying.
  12:52pm
Julie:

or if you've got FB up Kurt I just posted it
  12:54pm
DJ KG:

hansome, you're right. but they did a record called "wisconsin" so it always make loves me up.
  12:55pm
DJ KG:

julie, we'll have to see if i get my nerve enough up to play miley sight unheard!
  12:56pm
Handsome Harry:

It gets worse towards the end by leaps and bounds...though it wasn't as awful as I thought it was going to be. The musical arrangement wasn't Miley-fied...it sounded like an average cover of the song.
  12:56pm
Julie:

Would I steer you wrong? Much better than any of her original songs ;)
  12:57pm
Julie:

@HH yes agreed
  12:58pm
Handsome Harry:

Absolutely better than anything I've ever heard from the Cyrus family.
  12:59pm
Julie:

It is funny since I just played Tori's version yesterday. I can just see Miley looking up "albino" and "mulatto" in the dictionary
  12:59pm
Gaiwan:

Julie: That just gave me a laugh. I like Tori's version, though.
  1:00pm
satanica 1488:

what a greate track
  1:00pm
Cecile:

HH, Cruciforks were from Lansing, MI.
  1:01pm
Proverb:

Music hath charms to soothe the savage beast.
  1:01pm
Handsome Harry:

I would be radder if they were from the Mighty Upper Peninsula, but I thought it was Michigan.
  1:01pm
BodegaMan:

Paisly Plaid is a palette cleanser before Miley?
  1:01pm
dc pat:

that Miley video is make love to-ing pathetic. It's funny when folks in 6 inch heels try to be all crazy on stage, she looks like she's in slow motion.
  1:02pm
Miley:

What's a dictionary? And what do you think I pay personal assistants good $$ for, except to do boring or random stuff like that?
  1:04pm
Handsome Harry:

Volunteer Thank You Time!
  1:04pm
Cecile:

Yeah, well, Harry, I don't even think they heard hardcore up there until 1989. :D :D
  1:05pm
Handsome Harry:

God I love the U.P.
  1:06pm
Lansing, 1989:

Hardcore? I thought "hardcore" meant getting Hustler at the 7-11.
  1:09pm
Cecile:

I have a love-hate affair with the UP.
  1:10pm
Handsome Harry:

"Looking for fun? Greater Lansing offers leisure opportunities of nearly every kind. From upbeat action to laid-back and lazy you’re sure to find something for everyone."
  1:10pm
U.P.:

Venison-R-us.
  1:10pm
hamburger:

this track is a makin' me a jumpy
  1:11pm
Cecile:

Yeah, you know it. My father in law goes out every year he's feeling well and gets a deer or two. He'll be 90 this year.
  1:16pm
Handsome Harry:

Between this song and the giant chocolate rabbit I just consumed, things are getting weird.
  1:17pm
Ted Nugent:

I love me the smell of some warm Bambi blood in the morning!
  1:17pm
DJ KG:

i am listening to the barras/demierre set, but squeeze's "up the junction is going through my head"!
  1:17pm
DJ KG:

hansome: focus on the doggie gif. that should help you.
  1:21pm
Gaiwan:

Handsome Harry: Was it hollow or solid?
  1:22pm
Cecile:

Vension and the Free For All album are probably the only two things Ted and I agree upon.
  1:23pm
Ted Nugent:

Cecile and I do NOT agree on the potential yumminess of Osama sushi.
  1:23pm
dc pat:

Ted likes to kill bears Cecile, not deer.

Is one of these guys Shemp Howard?
  1:25pm
Pompous News Anchor:

In a related story, NotCool, the World Health Organization published a study yesterday saying 47% of the world's population suffers from headaches, at enormous economic and social cost.
  1:25pm
Handsome Harry:

@Gaiwan - It started out as your typical hollow modern chocolate rabbit, but the base turned out to be SOLID. I got to the base just as "Voicing Through Sanssurre (Excerpt)" was getting into full-swing. It was a beautiful thing. And then the St. Bernard arrived.
  1:29pm
dc pat:

Excerpt, huh? Hmmph. I wanna hear the whole thing...
  1:30pm
Gaiwan:

@Handsome Harry: that is a welcome relief. I don't approve of hollow bunnies, as they are a textural disappointment. The solid base almost makes up for it, though.
  1:31pm
DJ KG:

dc pat: this is an excerpt in that it's one part of a trilogy. the title is theirs. i'm playing everything they recorded here.
  1:33pm
dc pat:

OK, phew. Thought we were getting short-changed here. Carry on...
  1:33pm
NotCoolEnuf:

THIS is why I don't donate to WFMU during the show. My yearly Mouse Pledge goes to less pretentious ephemera.
  1:34pm
DJ KG:

i wouldn't do that to you! any more than i'd play miley cyrus covering nirvana.
  1:34pm
DJ KG:

you don't have to like everything, uncool.
  1:35pm
susurate:

"F-f-f-fava beans!"
  1:37pm
Handsome Harry:

@Gaiwan - Seriously. When I finally reached the base suddenly *everything* changed - the rain halted, rainbows appeared, babies stopped crying, communism fell, etc. and I was free to enjoy the rest of the day.
  1:39pm
J J:

Reminds me of this one John Cage performance where the audience slowly grows restless after being subjected to wordless sounds for over an hour. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KGerrvq-UlI
  1:39pm
Gaiwan:

@Handsome Harry <dabs eyes> I am happy for you. This is a blessed day. With some splendid animated .gifs and ephemera, besides!
  1:43pm
Handsome Harry:

I'm sure the French also have a term for the joy I felt at the moment I consumed the remainder of the chocolate rabbit. Were Vincent and Jacques making these sounds during the course of the interview? This truly is a happy day.
  1:44pm
dc pat:

best. interview. ever. These guys are killing me.
  1:46pm
Gaiwan:

@dc pat Agreed.
  1:47pm
DJ KG:

hansome: do you mean was the interview edited later? no. this is how it went down.
  1:48pm
Handsome Harry:

I thought as much. These guys should tour with the "Man Inside Piano" fellow. http://bit.ly/ifGhQn
  1:48pm
Hungry Bear:

@HH in English, we call that joy "Double Rainbow."
  1:48pm
Mike Sin:

I like that this informative"interview" doubles as another performance piece, which includes the unrattled participation of Kurt G!
  1:49pm
Gaiwan:

Completely unrattled. Impressive.
  1:49pm
DJ KG:

hi mike! thanks for engineering the session! sounds great.
  1:49pm
frenchee:

Me too! They're trippin' me out.
  1:49pm
DJ KG:

(not completely unrattled. i was dying laughing at some points.)
  1:50pm
frenchee:

in a good way
  1:51pm
dc pat:

I was going to say, how the make love to did you keep it together?
  1:52pm
Handsome Harry:

"L'effet arc en ciel double" is a term I've heard tossed around. This interview captures that perfectly.
  1:53pm
frenchee:

lol, I would be trying to CRACK THEM UP
  1:54pm
DJ KG:

hansome, translation?
  1:55pm
Handsome Harry:

Authorities tell me that it does not translate into English, unfortunately.
  2:00pm
Ours:

Ha!
  2:01pm
Handsome Harry:

Great stuff from Amy Horvey. She's posted a few tunes, including "Interview" over yonder on her site: http://www.amyhorvey.com/recordings.html
  2:03pm
frenchee:

he's known as IRA the K, KG!
  2:04pm
Parq:

Well, since I know that Mr. The K does not do a comment-enabled playlist, may I say now what a pleasure it will be to hear him again.
  2:11pm
from quebec:

that neapolitan track about liver pains (mal di fegato) was too short!
  2:12pm
Carmichael:

Hiyas.
  2:14pm
I̥͔ke:

Yes, let's anticipate what Ira's show will sound like and get our comments in now, since we won't be able to do it during his show. (I wonder if he thinks he'd get too many comments asking questions about, say, the production of "Autumn Sweater," or if he's just old-fashioned DJ-wise.)
  2:23pm
dc pat:

Ira: there have been times when I wanted to turn WFMU off but I have always resisted. But your show today has gone WAY over the limits of what is acceptable for even some one as tolerant as myself. I say good day to you sir.
  2:25pm
Carmichael:

WTF did I miss?!? I thought Ira was filling in for Irwin. Pat, are you complaining from the future?
  2:26pm
Danimal:

dc pat Ira's on WBEZ
  2:28pm
dc pat:

Yeah, I'm just playing Ikes game and complaining into the future.
  2:28pm
Minnesot Jeff:

Thanks for the compliments on the .gif everyone! Great show as always, DJKG!
  2:30pm
i.k.e.:

Thanks DC Pat for playing. Wheeeee! You are the only participant so far, so you have an excellent chance of winning. The prize is a half-broken toaster oven. It only toasts now. The oven part doesn't work.
  2:32pm
Contestant No. 2:

DJ Ira, I know Irwin might have palyed it, but that Miley Nirvana cover was a mistake. Also, why don't you have amazing gifs on your playlist like Kurt does?
  2:34pm
dc pat:

ah, crap. I already have one of those...
  2:36pm
BSI:

emerging from post-lunch curry coma. Evidently missed some groovy Ike game. And a great Bosetti track. And my golden years...
  2:39pm
auto ref:

Golden years, go-ooo-old....whah whah whah.
  2:39pm
Carmichael:

Thanks for the Tuvan throat singing, Ira. Next time though, could you bring a recording of someone else doing it?!
  2:39pm

  2:40pm
Handsome Harry:

Fantastic trumpet selections today, DJ KG.
  2:44pm
Contestant No. 2:

  2:46pm
i.k.e.:

Carm is the front-runner right now! Thanks to all who have played so far. 13 minutes left!
  2:52pm
i.k.e.:

(Wow, great Rahat NFAK track, DJ KG!)
  2:54pm
dc pat:

OH MY GOD, IRA EXPLODED!!
  2:56pm
Carmichael:

It's just another one of his ploys to get on Farm Film Report.
  2:59pm
dug:

Any recommendations for a good hotel in Barcelona for Primavera Sound this year?
  3:01pm
i.k.e.:

Thanks everybody! This was awesome!

DC Pat wins! Hooray DC Pat! Since you already have a half-broken toaster oven, I'll donate it to Toasters 4 Tots.
  3:03pm
dc pat:
