Listener comments!

  11:19am
Peter:

This is one of the most perfect songs ever. I know Lee Mavers didn't like the production, but he was/is crazy.
  11:22am
kurt v + irene c:

Shelley!! First time listener. And we are smiling real big since your show came on! Geesh, you are killing it today!
  11:23am
kurt v + irene c:

I had never heard Ted Hawkins before. somehow. that song was beautiful.and what a nice surprise to haer There She Goes
  11:26am
Michael:

Peter - what song are you talking about?
  11:31am
BigJay:

Fleetwood Mac?
  11:34am
Peter:

Michael - "There She Goes". Mavers was furious at the release on the album. The chimy Rickenback stuff, I don't believe he ever liked.

I think he saw the La's as having much more a skiffle-sound.
  11:39am
paul:

Good call,BigJay.
  11:49am
Peter:

Wait...Jerry Lewis and Jerry Lee Lewis are two different people?
  11:54am
drr:

Oh....that must be why he never plays piano on his telethons.
  12:02pm
?:

I saw the La's a few times back in the day, and they definitely had kind of an electric skiffle-y thing going, more so than the jangly sound of the records. But you can't really blame the label for taking the album out of his hands; they invested a TON of money in recording it with multiple studios/producers, and he would have kept recording forever and never finished it if they hadn't pulled the plug and salvaged an album from the tracks that had been recorded.
  12:05pm
Michael:

FOLKS help me out here - name another
La's song or 2 that are #1 hits
  12:08pm
Steve:

The Las' Son Of A Gun is pretty terrific...
  12:09pm
paul:

I Can't Sleep close a #1 hit.
  12:11pm
Little Fyodor:

I gave the Apples (before they were In Stereo) their first gig, opening for me, back when, at a place called Penny Lane Coffeehouse.... Nice to hear 'em!!
  12:12pm
paul:

Waiting for my MS marathon premium CD to arrive. Should be hear soon.
  12:13pm
paul:

Didn't realize John Sebastian had such a thick accent.
  12:14pm
drr:

That "Street The Beat" public access thing is on YouTube, by the way.
  12:15pm
Parq:

Betsy played a live version of Dudey's "Six Days" a couple of shows ago in which, for some reason, he kept slurring the title line drunk-like. He didn't sound actually drunk; it just seemed to strike him as funny.
  12:16pm
Michael:

I'm a fan of Betsy's show - did you know that is her singing my jingles (with Bill Mac)?
  12:18pm
paul:

Whatever happened to the Deceadent ((sp) Activity Committe? I may have the name wrong. But I miss it.
  12:22pm
ben drinken:

Hal Needham was on the dumb show wait wait on NPR this morning. NPR is one of the only listenable radio stations around here if you are in the car. For some reason some of this music made me think of it again and remember the old 70's movies that Jerry Reed et al were in. Hal Needham directed some of them and was a great stunt man back in the day as well.
  12:22pm
Michael:

I miss it too - but when the show got trimmed to TWO hours - I had to let it go
  12:26pm
paul:

So it suffered its own death. Very ironic.
Miss the 3-hour show, too. Take an hour away from Cherry Blossom Clinic :)
  12:27pm
kurt v + irene c:

my friend vinnie's parents are Michael and Shelley
  12:27pm
Michael:

I think Freddie could turn it into a great 1hr weekly show
  12:28pm
paul:

I agree. And I'd listen.
  12:32pm
Parq:

@Michael:12:16 - Yes, I did know that was Betsy, although I thought the male voice was Mike Sin. I "adopted" Bill Mac during the last 'thon, so I'm doubly pleased to find that it's him.
  12:34pm
Peter:

Todd Rundgren really has this genre to himself. At least the American version. In the UK it's the Records.
  12:39pm
Parq:

It doesn't get much more number-one-hit than Todd.
  12:46pm
paul:

Harry Lime Theme
  12:47pm
paul:

aka Third Man Theme
  12:47pm
pp:

can check out the Hawaii rock mansion on youtube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vWikL4RbbDg
  12:47pm
scott:

Agree that "I Can't Steep" by the La's is a Number One hit. "Melody" is also pretty great.
  12:47pm
paul:

Wise man, Scott.
  12:50pm
paul:

Great selection of songs today, MS.
  5:20pm
Jay:

Man, I'm with you on "Just Passing By". It's a piece of work. Since you debuted it on your show a few weeks back, I've woken up several times with it playing in my head. You should look that guy up. Looks like he's still around.
