	12:35pm Cecile: He did, Brian! I have it saved on my DVR forever because the movie isn't on DVD or VHS as far as I know, and the sdtk is way out of print. A crime! It was a multi-Oscar nominee. And it was the first movie in a theatre I ever paid to see twice. I was a big 10 years old at the time. Prolly. LOLOLOLOLOLOL! that's awesome, Duane.

	12:46pm Cecile: I used to have the Scholastic book of it. Wish I still had it. The book is different, a little sadder but still uplifting at the end.

	1:16pm Cecile: Fotomaker! I remember Stereo Review just ripping them a whole new one back in the 70s. they are quite pleasant. But then when you had Stevie and EWF and any number of people at full power, I guess pleasant was a rip.

	1:19pm Cecile: LOL! Man, if knowing Stereo Review by heart from 1971-1980 was a career booster, I'd be posting this on my private jet.

	1:26pm glenn: on the other hand, i have every issue of fine homebuilding, f. woodworking, f. cooking and f. gardening. and lots of doubles to boot.

	1:29pm Cecile: I remember when Option was O-P. And SR had morphed into Home Audio or something like that. It was popular because it was the only music magazine lots of parents and school libraries would allow in the 70s.
	1:32pm glenn: i have a friend named majero, pronounced my arrow. so named because her parents were watching the point on t.v. when she was conceived.
	1:32pm Ike: There WAS an audiophile magazine in my local library with record reviews. Hmm. Maybe that WAS Stereo Review. I can't remember. Whatever it was, they bashed My Bloody Valentine's "Loveless," calling it "nasty canned music" or some such! Har har!
	1:34pm glenn: home audio. i think that's right. i find it very ironic that when most people can finally afford a truly great stereo system, they no longer have the hearing to enjoy it.
	1:35pm Cecile: They were pretty conservative, even when they were out there. Still Lester Bangs wrote for em in the 70s, occasionally Steve Simels was aight, and their jazz critic was great - he was championing Sam Rivers and Steve Lacy. They really covered folk and musicals well. I went and bought a Ben Bagley Painted Smiles Revue record for a quarter for sentimental reasons last year because of them.

	1:50pm Cecile: har. dale, the only thing I demanded when I was a teen was a player without a changer. When I didn't get that, I put the fear of God in to my sibs. My one concession to audiophilia. I think I've inherited 90% of my stereo equipemnt from my techie friends.

	1:55pm dale: i still have my first receiver i ever bought, a 1977 kenwood 40 kr 4070. i pulled it out recently and plugged er in for 5 minutes of warmth and then a loud hum. old caps dried out. anyone know how hard they are to change out? i have a 40 watt marantz from that period too. then when i made money i bought NAD stuff. still prefer the big glow-y dial.

	1:58pm glenn: i don't know. he was selling stuff that was enjoined by his bankruptcy trustee. but why couldn't he have sold one of the two multi million dollar homes he owned before declaring bankruotcy? rich people confuse me sometimes. actually most of the time.
	1:59pm glenn: i have NAD stuff. i quite like it. changing the capacitors is probably easier than finding them.
	1:59pm Carmichael: I bought Pioneer SX-1080 receiver in 1979, and it still runs like a champ (in my garage). I still use my quartz-lock turntable to this day.
	2:00pm Nails: Two separate arrests, apparently. Wednesday was for fraud, Thursday unrelated arrest for an attempt to buy a stolen car.
	2:00pm Cecile: glenn, if he had any sense with money or knew anyone who had sense with money, he wouldn't be in that pickle. Simple as that. that doesn't mean I don't feel for him . That sucks.

	2:04pm randy in NC: @Dale NAD is good stuff. I still have mine. There's a thrift shop here that I volunteer at. We get lots of good discarded audiophile-like stuff. We had some huge Fisher speakers from the 60's that still sounded good come in a while back. The things that go on all these are the big caps (as you found out), and the rubber belts in the turntables and cassette recorders. Replacing the power supply caps is not too critical as long as the voltages and values are at least as large as what was there.
	2:05pm Cecile: Really, nails? Being a financial advisor is like being a nutritionist - you can just say you are one. Not like being a dietitian or a certifified financial planner.
	2:06pm Cecile: and I've had two sets of family members get burned big time by real estate. I don't have the stomach for that. one house is plenty.
	2:09pm dale: i thought i'd look at mousers for caps. have to open the unit up first to see the values. how do you discharge any juice still hanging out in there? a couple of years ago i got an early 60s telefunkun bajazzo am/fm/shortwave for $5 at the salvay. i love days like that.

	2:13pm Nails: Apparently Dykstra got burned in real estate too. Bought the Gretzky mansion for $17.5 million, and did put it on the market before filing for bankruptcy, asking $24.5 originally. Nobody bit. As of last year, it's valued at about $11 million.

	2:15pm randy in NC: If the unit is humming, the cap is likely dead anyway so no worry about charge storage. Or just wait a few minutes after powering it down. Look for the cap to be puffed up or distorted. Besides Mouser, you might just check your local Radio Shack too. I think I priced those Fisher speakers at $7. Nice walnut veneer, back in the day when speakers were furniture.

	1:29pm Cecile: I remember when Option was O-P. And SR had morphed into Home Audio or something like that. It was popular because it was the only music magazine lots of parents and school libraries would allow in the 70s.
	1:32pm glenn: i have a friend named majero, pronounced my arrow. so named because her parents were watching the point on t.v. when she was conceived.
	1:32pm Ike: There WAS an audiophile magazine in my local library with record reviews. Hmm. Maybe that WAS Stereo Review. I can't remember. Whatever it was, they bashed My Bloody Valentine's "Loveless," calling it "nasty canned music" or some such! Har har!
	1:34pm glenn: home audio. i think that's right. i find it very ironic that when most people can finally afford a truly great stereo system, they no longer have the hearing to enjoy it.
	1:35pm Cecile: They were pretty conservative, even when they were out there. Still Lester Bangs wrote for em in the 70s, occasionally Steve Simels was aight, and their jazz critic was great - he was championing Sam Rivers and Steve Lacy. They really covered folk and musicals well. I went and bought a Ben Bagley Painted Smiles Revue record for a quarter for sentimental reasons last year because of them.

	1:55pm dale: i still have my first receiver i ever bought, a 1977 kenwood 40 kr 4070. i pulled it out recently and plugged er in for 5 minutes of warmth and then a loud hum. old caps dried out. anyone know how hard they are to change out? i have a 40 watt marantz from that period too. then when i made money i bought NAD stuff. still prefer the big glow-y dial.

	2:04pm randy in NC: @Dale NAD is good stuff. I still have mine. There's a thrift shop here that I volunteer at. We get lots of good discarded audiophile-like stuff. We had some huge Fisher speakers from the 60's that still sounded good come in a while back. The things that go on all these are the big caps (as you found out), and the rubber belts in the turntables and cassette recorders. Replacing the power supply caps is not too critical as long as the voltages and values are at least as large as what was there.

	2:15pm randy in NC: If the unit is humming, the cap is likely dead anyway so no worry about charge storage. Or just wait a few minutes after powering it down. Look for the cap to be puffed up or distorted. Besides Mouser, you might just check your local Radio Shack too. I think I priced those Fisher speakers at $7. Nice walnut veneer, back in the day when speakers were furniture.
