  7:35pm
Julie:

Oh please, Monica, you always have interesting things to say! XO
  7:35pm
gi:

I like your style Monica don't worry at all about your presentation protocol!
  7:36pm
CB1:

Nothing wrong with crying. Good for what ails ya. Pity the people who never do.
  7:36pm
Mariano:

You let it all out! Nothing wrong with that. I almost cried when you played Moon River!
  7:36pm
bruceleh:

at the drop of a hat!
prolly related to my neurotic Jewish background
  7:38pm
CB2:

I cry at the drop of a hat and love every moment of it.
As Joseph Campbell said: When suffering meets compassion, you get divine love.
Funny how it goes both ways.
  7:38pm
matthew:

wish i cried a bit more, i find that the times i do it's always in front of people, can't seem to do it on my own.
  7:39pm
EN:

Monica I am a huge masculine burly manly man

and when i cry it really freaks people out, they think i must be going insane. i try not to do it. but once in a while... gotta let it out. feels good.
  7:39pm
Julie:

Just talking about crying makes me want to start crying. I've found myself hit with a couple of weepies that I wasn't sure if they were sad or happy or some weird combo of the two.
  7:40pm
Fiona:

I tend to cry silently, more a whimper.

But it feels good.
  7:41pm
Julie:

Why would dropping a hat make me cry? Fortunately when mine blows off I usually manage to catch it.
  7:41pm
texas scott:

I shed a few watching tv shows like Extreme Home Makeover or Secret Millionaire.Tears of joy and not so much of the sad kind.
  7:42pm
sugarwolf:

I feel sort of uncomfortable showing too much emotion. I'm such an uptight WASP.
  7:42pm
Some other guy:

Monica, you will forgive my alias, but too many WFMU people know me, including you, for me to attach my real name to an admission like this. A middle-aged guy, I cry at *everything*. I cry at the end of Disney movies -- and not just the classics, but stuff like "Hunchback" and "Princess Diaries". I can't even watch "It's a Wonderful Life" any more because it just takes too much out of me.
  7:43pm
Irene:

Most of my life I've not been a crybaby, but lately I do find myself getting very emotional from time to time. Especially over the past year, while I've been dealing with lots of health problems the waterworks kept going. Sometimes they're tears of relief, sometimes tears of hopelessness and frustration, but I always feel a bit better afterward. Those tears do fall when least expected.
  7:46pm
CB1:

When I lost my love to a horrible terminal illness I cried for about a year, but never in front of him. Always strong for him, but jelly the rest of the time - on the street, in the subway, there was no pride to it. I never knew tears could run so deep or be so plentiful. Eventually I built a room in my head and put my sadness there and closed the door.
  7:48pm
hellbilly13:

I tend to save it for funerals ..been to way too many in the past few years ...helps to deal with the shock and sense of loss. Otherwise, like sugarwolf, I'm a stoic WASP.
  7:49pm
Listener Schned:

A lot of it with songs is associations, i.e Moon River, Jonesy playing Petula Clark's "Downtown" earlier. I nearly lost it, but this is the meaning of catharsis - ya fall apart and then ya can bring it back together - but I'm also in the midst of the mutual crises of family death and the global mess, so as they say, "Pardonnez-moi" p.s.CB1 there are all kinds of courage - bless you !
  7:50pm
CB1:

See. Mo - everyone does it. It makes us human.
  7:50pm
Some other guy:

On the other hand, I have not cried yet for my father's 2004 death. It was just such a long, awful process leading up to it, that once it was over, I couldn't feel anything but numb relief. Still can't.
  7:52pm
monica:

Julie, sounds like tou're a 3-ply type of gal! Love that... Fiona, a whimper to a SCREAM? or just a little whimper? let it out now...Irene, you are THE BOMB, LADY!! we love you dearly....Some other guy, thank you for sharing that! am the same way -- especially if someone onscreen dies, i just choke....sugarwolf, the reticent one!....T'Scott, 'zackly! I cry at that stuff too. LOTS of TV tears...EN - good for you!! guys that cry are A-OK in my book...Matthew, now that's interesting, why do you think that is?...CB2, glad somethin' divine up in here xo,,, bruceleh, that's totally cool....Mariano, that song always makes me cry too!...CB1, WAH!!!!.....gi, thank you very much...well hello hellbilly13!...and dominick!...
  7:53pm
CB2:

Ragin' storm in Riverdale and on the show - did you hit a nail on the head or what?

Truth is - we do.

Isn't it great that everyone cares.
  7:53pm
bruceleh:

monica, I'm so glad you said it's cool, other wise I might have cried! :P
  7:54pm
Julie:

Some of the music Irene plays makes me want to weep..and I mean that in the best way. I find I'm crying more in response to movies/songs and things, and hold it in with the personal stuff. Guess it's gotta come out somehow!
  7:55pm
bruceleh:

Monica it may be cool, but it really doesn't go well on first dates!
  7:56pm
diego:

i cry re: things which give me hope: civil rights documentaries, the film 'precious', fania all stars documentary...
  7:58pm
Irene:

Hey Julie, couldn't agree more. Playing music for all you listener folk is a very emotional thing for me too. I'm not always thinking of moving you to tears though.
  7:58pm
monica:

Hi Listener Schned - YES! best wishes for your mishegoss...diego, yer a righteous cryer....
  7:59pm
CB1:

CB2 and I cried through most of Toy Story 3, but tried to hide it from each other. I mean, a cartoon!
  7:59pm
hellbilly13:

Sounds like Butter is acting out!
  7:59pm
Don (trip dub):

Hi Ms. M. Zev and Bush Tetras were fantastic. Dee Pop, Cynthia and Pat Place haven't missed a beat. They encored with a searing 'Cold Turkey'. Whoa. Fouratt got a big mention. JB with the classic JBs. The Hell album (mostly written by Fred Wesley) is one of my all-time faves. Maceo at Brooklyn Bridge Park May 15th.
  8:00pm
Bosco:

That's my gal.

She does now how to take care of box.
  8:01pm
trdh:

The last bit o box.
  8:01pm
Julie:

I've played some tear-drenched sets myself. Music and tears both a good release, together well..someone get a mop (Sniffle)
  8:01pm
Some other guy:

CB1, even I'm not ashamed of crying at the end of TS3. It's like the prologue of 'Up' -- if you don't cry even a little, I'd really rather not get to know you.
  8:02pm
Julie:

Butter's a star!
  8:02pm
philly d:

Haha, thank goodness i checked the playlist, i thought it was a prolonged outtake from James there, i mean i know James can tear it up, but he obviously ain't no Butter! (which of the four is the good foot?!?!)
  8:03pm
CB1:

Some other guy - not just the ending, but through most of it. Just hit a nerve.
  8:03pm
Julie:

We should invest in Puffs as a group
  8:05pm
Don (trip dub):

Cry at the sappy music from Lost in Space (I think John Williams scored) when Will and Penny would get admonished by big dad Guy Williams.
  8:06pm
Julie:

The music they played at the end of the Mod Squad always made me feel weepy
  8:09pm
bruceleh:

OMG, I am so *bad*!
Listening to Liz Taylor interview, all that comes up is John Belushi with the chicken leg.
  8:10pm
Mariano:

Once right after a breakup I was in a deli on 8th Ave, I had a flu, and "The Way We Were" came on, and my eyes welled up. I almost had to leave!
  8:10pm
Sidonia:

Liz Taylor - what a voice.

What a philosopher!.
  8:11pm
Elizabeth Montes:

Growing up my dad and uncle always referred to my aunt as "The Torch", I found out later they gave her the name because the way she sounded when she cried, (they of course tortured her as only older brothers can)
  8:12pm
matthew:

don't know why I end up crying in front of people and not on my own, when it does happen. Maybe because I'm formulating in better in words at that moment or because someone else is seeing me in a more real way at that moment. It also feels great after, very unexpected, maybe it's a combination of things. When talking to others your train of thought takes a different path then just thinking on your own. More unexpected and sometimes it just hits that spot you know.
  8:14pm
CB2:

Interesting aspect - look what you did with your tears -
remarkable show.
  8:16pm
trdh:

I think I'd enjoy crying a lo more if it were less like coping with a runny-nose. For real downpours, wouldn't some kinda tear vacuum/sponge be better than the dab-n-wipe on repeat?
  8:20pm
trdh:

A dentist saliva-vac with a big wad of cotton/sponge/fleece on the end. Or a reverse umbrella .. For downpours.
  8:21pm
Fiona:

Amen, Sister! I love those major BOO HOOS. Nothing better for cleansing the soul.
  8:21pm
diego:

I was once in Venice with Liz in the garden of the Peggy Guggenhein Collection, and I noticed she was digging into one of her eyes. Something was in her eye. I said "Elizabeth, with eyes as big and as beautiful as yours, you're bound to get something in there from time to time." She replied "Darling, they're just trash cans."
  8:22pm
monica:

hi there, philly d! left back is the "good" foot!...Sidonia, la liz was real with hers...Hi Elizabeth Montes, that's a great nickname...matthew, yes, it's quite a release. especially if it's been building up for a long time...trdh, yes it's a bit messy...CB2 - lemonade from lemons!...Mariano, ouch....bruceleh, liz would laff at that too...Don (trip dub), good stuf...
  8:24pm
CB1:

Diego,

GREAT Liz story!
  8:25pm
monica:

diego, you win. that is awesome.
  8:26pm
Elizabeth Montes:

Runny nose criers, try lying down while crying; It has the reverse effect: Your nose plugs. I found a helpful tip when I was little to keep from getting a plugged nose while lying in bed crying: gather all the pillows in the house, stack them up and lay in bed vertically while crying without the plugged nose, yay!
  8:27pm
CB2:

STOP IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was just going to say to CB1 Lykke Li, but , lordy, the Orioles.
Not fair!
  8:28pm
sugarwolf:

Last month I was looking at old family pictures that go back 50+ years, and the ones that made me cry were the ones of my long gone kitty cats.
  8:29pm
Fiona:

The gal was a broad.

Bless her!
  8:40pm
annie:

wow, i'm here, listening..woot!
  8:44pm
Jeff M:

Ahh. Finally back from running errands, time to sink back and let the last precious minutes of music wash over me.

I mean, I had the car radio on, but it sounds kind of scratchy.
  8:44pm
Sidonia:

Tears of celebration!

I think I am Four-Quarters There.
  8:47pm
CB1:

Night, Mo and all you weepers. Have a great week.
  8:49pm
CB2:

Love you, Mo.
  8:52pm
annie:

even 20 minutes is wonderful..
  8:55pm
cheri:

hiya monica---happy easter
  8:55pm
monica:

annie!! so glad you made it!... you too CB2 & 1...Sidonia, pass the Kleenex...Yay, Jeff M!....sugarwolf, canm't even think about butter's eventual demise w/o welling up....
  8:56pm
Fiona:

U R 2 MUCH!

THKS.
  8:57pm
dagwood:

Hey Monica...you outdid yourself tonight! Tears and all. Terrific show.
  8:57pm
Windy City:

...tears of a clown
  8:58pm
Mariano:

Good night Mo!
  8:58pm
Don (trip dub):

The violin theme from Holly Hunter water scene in 'Piano'. Over the top.
  8:58pm
monica:

Good night all!
  8:59pm
trdh:

<sniff>
  8:59pm
Jeff M:

Yeah, that unfortunate habit critters have of not living forever kept me from getting a dog for years.
