Favoriting March 30, 2011: JACUZZI BOYS live set!

Listen to this show: Pop-up listen Pop-up player!

Forget how it came in, March is guaranteed to go out like a crocodile as Miami F-L-A's Jacuzzi Boys breeze in to the WFMU studios for a killer live set of garage-y rock! Fresh off the already-legendary Bruise Cruise, and with a new LP due later this year on the Hardly Art label, these guys are hotter than South Beach in August! You can also check their new Live At Third Man LP that just came out. Iggy Pop is a fan - check out their live set and you'll be one too!

excited for this show! saw jacuzzi boys at cake shop and they were lots of fun
  9:13pm
Laurie:

I have seen the Jacuzzi Boys a lot of times (including yesterday, in Durham), and they are always fun
  9:16pm
efd:

and such nice young men, too! Thanks for checking in Laurie and Alejandro, and good evening lurkers!
  9:17pm
Steve L:

Who? Us? Lurking? No one here! Honest officer.
  9:17pm
AZ:

Oh, EFD, you are rocking my universe with garage-y spectacularness. Can't believe I've never heard that IQ Zero 45 until now. Wow!
  9:20pm
hihi:

Play some audacity... they are the best!
  9:21pm
Oruba Stone:

We lurkers do not appreciate having our respective spots blown up. I felt the need to come out of the woodwork to say that.
  9:24pm
Bad Ronald:

Nailed! Greets and killer set esp. the iq zero track. lookin forward to the JBs bit, thanks!
  9:48pm
Chop Scott:

EFD!

Sounds great--who engineered? Hats off to them!
  9:49pm
Joe D.:

Hardly Art is absolutely killing it right now... in addition to Hunx and his Punx and Fergus and Geronimo (already familiar to FMU listeners), I suggest everyone reading this board to check out Colleen Green, who Im not sure is a person or a whole band, but nevertheless is absolutely stellar.
  9:51pm
Chop Scott:

Oops--see it now. Diane K!
  9:51pm
Alejandro:

hey joe i totally agree about hardly art. that fresh and onlys/golden triangle split 7" is a real gem as well
  9:51pm
Steve L:

That's a bunch of noise for three guys. Love ta rocking trio.
  9:51pm
efd:

Hey Scott - Ms. Diane Kamikaze was behind the board for this one, and I second your hat-offing!

Howdy Bad R, Oruba, hihi, my adoptadad AZ and Steve L! Happy to have you listening tonight!
  9:51pm
Joe D.:

they've also got Woven Bones and Golden Triangle... damn fine label, says I. Damn fine.
  9:53pm
efd:

Also don't forget last year's killer Unnatural Helpers album on Hardly Art - they're on a roll indeed!
  9:53pm
Alejandro:

smells dead is such a great tune. thanks for that...
  9:55pm
Holly in NC:

I did NOT see the Jacuzzi Boys last night because I'm stupid. {slaps self REALLY hard}. Got out of work at 10 pm and...forgetfully, pathetically, went home. Looking forward to your archive, Evan!
  9:56pm
Joe D.:

but seriously folks, Colleen Green. Who I now know is a she. Ms. Colleen Green.

http://colleengreen.bandcamp.com/track/oh-baby

to be listened to AFTER Evan's show... when those rap jerks are on.
  9:57pm
blacktooth:

Keep rocking the crazy sounds! Go, go, go!
  9:57pm
efd:

@Joe, I take it that means you're coming down here again this week for Noah's show?
  9:58pm
Rap Jerks:

No, listen to it now, while these punk rock chumps are on.
  9:59pm
Holly in NC:

And the J Boys must be exhausted! That's a *heck*of a drive!!!!
  9:59pm
Bridge Builder:

I love that the members of the Black Lips love rap jerks.
  9:59pm
Joe D.:

... I should've said "those rap guys and that ONE jerk"
  10:05pm
Bad Ronald:

THE JACUZZI BOYS set rocked!!! Thanks EFD and DK and Laurie too!
  10:06pm
Licensed Garage Guru:

Everyone just lie here under the rainbow parachute while holding your body pillow and counting 1-2-3-4..
  10:08pm
Holly in NC:

@Licensed Garage Guru -
:=)
  10:08pm
mark:

smokin'
  10:08pm
Steve L:

OK, I'm stupid. The JBs were through Fort Wayne last June at the Brass Rail, and I was not there. I'm sure R. Mike says hi.
  10:11pm
Danne D:

Hi Funk Fans. Hey there Evan, thanks for your usual greatness.

Btw, can my fantasy team possibly suck more? How bad is it you ask - my BEST reliever is the backup closer for the ORIOLES. Will be hoping for a miracle. Last year my draft was all 1Bs, the year before that all Pitchers, this year it was OFs. WIll be fun regardless even if the Knuckles have middle-pack aspirations.
  10:14pm
Holly in NC:

What I'm catching of this set is totally amazing, Can I now flush myself down the toilet for missing the Durham show last night ~ 5 MINUTES FROM MY HOUSE????
  10:16pm
efd:

Holly, I go to so few shows any more that I can never give anyone else a hard time about missing a show.

BUT STILL!!
  10:17pm
Holly in NC:

{abject grovelling} I KNOW.
  10:19pm
Laurie:

You're welcome, everybody!
  10:20pm
Steve L:

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhggggggggghhhh!!!!
  10:20pm
Bad Ronald:

Snap!
  10:20pm
Joe D.:

ooooh that was a drop in, right there. A nice one.
  10:20pm
Holly in NC:

Oh, you are an evil, evil man. Good evil, not bad evil ;-)
  10:21pm
mark:

Great set! Hey, that Joe's new theme song! Baseball note: Just picked up Jimmy Breslin's new book about Branch Ricky. Special series on Penguin. Recommended read.
  10:22pm
Nate the K:

I can not explain how much I love this song... my wife thinks it's a cover though. Confirm?
  10:22pm
Bad Ronald:

Play it twice!!!
  10:23pm
efd:

Nate, correct - Bill Haley did it originally, and Ann Margaret has also covered it.
  10:24pm
Holly in NC:

It's a Bill Haley cover, and Ann Margret did a version also - but this is THE version.
  10:24pm
Steve L:

Ann Margaret? That's one I need to check out.
  10:25pm
Dickie Thompson:

I wrote it!!!
  10:25pm
Nate the K:

And, also, apparently, er... Big Bad Voodoo Daddy...
  10:25pm
Holly in NC:

@Steve L - She did change it to 13 men...
  10:26pm
Steve L:

Ahhhh, should have seen that coming.
  10:27pm
randy in ATL:

There's a version with the same arrangement as the Renegades on YouTube by a French band playing at a club in Lyon.
  10:28pm
Holly in NC:

Wow! off to Bandcamp I go (re Persian Claws)
  10:33pm
Holly in NC:

OK, I'm going to cook my dinner & shut up for a while, but just want to share that the new Insomniacs album makes me really, really happy.
  10:38pm
Licensed Garage Guru:

Go in peace, Holly. :-)
  10:40pm
randy in ATL:

efd, glad you liked it!
  10:43pm
randy in ATL:

Yes, very moving is a great way to descibe it.
  10:46pm
efd:

Randy, did you move? Or are you just visiting ATL? Yeah, such an amazing show, thanks for urging me on to see it!

Have a nice dinner, Holly!
  10:47pm
randy in ATL:

Your welcome. Work trip to Atl.
  10:54pm
Joe D.:

forest swords is almost as good a name as nightsatan.
  10:54pm
Joe D.:

to make it even better, my math question answer was 666
  10:56pm
Holly in NC:

Chomp. Leftover roasted mussels & some fridge foraged radishes, arugula, watercress & a lovely hunk of 3 yr old gouda (gouda aged elsewhere, I hasten to add!).

Note lack of actual cooking. It's Wednesday.
  10:59pm
Danne D:

Wow, Ska really does make pretty much anything better.
  11:00pm
Danne D:

So Evan who do you think are the big contenders in the fatnasy league?
  11:01pm
Holly in NC:

I am totally provoke-ative .
Love this song.
  11:01pm
kookaburra:

oh yeah!
  11:13pm
Danne D:

This is awesome!
  11:16pm
bianca bob:

Thanks for playing pigbag!!! Needed that!
  11:24pm
efd:

Bianca Bob, my pleasure! This new collection is a great excuse to play them more often (not that I need an excuse, of course).

Danne, it's *way* too early to predict favorites I think; I haven't really looked at who's on all the other teams that closely yet anyway. Although I'm pretty sure I can predict who won't be leading in saves. ;)
  11:26pm
Danne D:

Yeah, I got yahooed in a major way on the save category. I have like 8 starting pitchers though, now, so maybe that'll help somehow. Of course you'll be pulling for my team as I ended up with a ridiculous number of Red Sox
  11:28pm
dave:

It's just utterly amazing to me that it took this long for humanity to produce the lyric "Fancy space people/From space..."
  11:29pm
efd:

dave, you make an excellent point!
  11:34pm
12539:

@dave, humanity didn't produce that line - fancy space people (from space) did!
  11:35pm
randy in ATL:

Matt McMichaels voice does AC really well doesn't it?

  11:40pm

  11:49pm
dave:

Not that i doubt his story or anything, but if it's only the 13 women and this Renegades guy, who sold 'em the diamond ring?
  11:50pm
Holly in NC:

GREAT segue!
  11:51pm
efd:

phat, good luck in your league! Supposedly there's a chance that they'll do that big star tribute show in Nashville and LA, but nothing definite.
  11:52pm
efd:

thanks Holly! I appreciate that you noticed!
  11:53pm
Holly in NC:

Just now noting new volume of Hipshakers. Excited!
  11:54pm
Danne D:

Thanks for a great show Evan! I'm gonna sign off the comments. Take care everyone!
  11:54pm
phat:

It would be nice if one of these deals would somehow escape the coasts. Chicago maybe? MN? KC? That Big Star live record from the 90s was recorded in Lawrence, for heaven's sake.
  11:58pm
American Idol:

We don't go quite that deep into anyone's catalogue. Good find, efd.
  11:59pm
Holly in NC:

Sorry, even though it's the hit Jessie's Girl still wins. IMnot-soHO,
