Mississippi Sheiks  The World Is Going Wrong   Favoriting The Dust-to-Digital label just put out an amazing 3 CD set of country blues from the 20s & 30s: "Baby, How Can It Be? Songs of Love, Lust and Contempt" 
Crippled Clarence Lofton  Strut That Thing   Favoriting This one is from the Lust CD; Mississippi Sheiks was from Contempt.

Willie Dixon  Walkin' the Blues   Favoriting A monster tune from the best of the Chicago bluesmen. Songwriter, bassist and much much more. 
Memphis Slim  All By Myself   Favoriting When I was a kid, I got to hear Memphis Slim & Willie Dixon play as a duo at Newport Folk Festival.

hey Steve,
The Woody Guthrie song about Jesus being a socialist sounds alot like the Bruce Springstein version of "Jesse James", which I believe was originally a Pete Seger song... "That dirty little coward who shot Mr. Howard...laid poor Jesse in his grave"....

Woody took a traditional ballad and reworked it, which he (and many others) commonly did; sometimes he is listed as the writer of "Jesse James" and he clearly altered it to become "Jesus Christ." As Pete Seeger would say, that's the folk process.
