A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

  9:20am
jgiles:

  9:28am
trouble:

thank you jgiles, that is nice to hear
  9:31am
Parq:

Thanks for the phabulous Phylis. I heard her do that "Playtex living bra died" line on TY many times, but never the full version before.
  9:33am
CheriPi:

I'm glad you played Phyllis-I'm too young to have heard her perform her comedy like that-only references to it.
  9:39am
Cecile:

Aw, Phyllis is great. A late bloomer, a real role model for women, and hilarious.
  9:41am
Cecile:

I borrowed a Jan Svankmayer DVD from a friend, and my house was robbed before I could watch it. I found him a copy, but am too afraid to borrow it again
  9:41am
Cecile:

Totie Fields? Anne Meara? Elaine May?
  9:45am
Magda:

I'm loving this song. I'm listening to it at work, and it's getting me in the mood. And I am multislacking.
  9:46am
BSI:

whoa; I thought I was the Dieter Moebius completist in the room, and yet I see on yonder playlist something I ain't heard yet...! Egad, I'm late!
  9:46am
Cecile:

And standup, until the early 80s at least, was most definitely a man's game.
  9:47am
Angry Catman:

Moondog!! Huzzah!! That guy apparently used to hang out right outside my building. Love the Moondog.
  9:48am
BSI:

...and whatsis about Jan Svankmajer? His PUNCH AND JUDY is one of my favorite films by anybody. For the sound as much as the visuals.
  9:49am
Ringy-dingy:

Nice to be listening for once from the Eastern Time Zone, Trouble. Happy birthday, D.J. Icepack!
  9:49am
Cecile:

Trouble played the soundtrack from a game of stones
  9:49am
Cecile:

Which I have seen and was the reason why I borroed the cursed DVD.
  9:50am
ffrr:

Cecile, don't forget Joan Rivers was a big deal back in the day, subbing for Carson & whatnot.
  9:51am
Cecile:

How could I forget Joan? Jeez, thanks! Yes, Joan. She was even big in the 70s.
  9:52am
Cecile:

Remember that dreadful movie "Rabbit Test?"
  9:52am
lilsis:

Bonjour Trouble
  9:53am
Cecile:

But there were great comic actresses in the 60s and 70s. I still miss Madeline Kahn. So good. About the only factor that made Mark II of the Cosby Show any good.
  9:55am
annie:

i've been posting harpo marx videos on FB... dj icepack shares his birthday, today with that amazing musician and comedian.
  9:55am
Magda:

i just watched Blazing Saddles, her Marlene Dietrich was dead on!! I don't remember if she won the oscar but she was nominated for it.
  9:56am
Jennique:

Good morning Trouble! Thanks for the stop-motion animation shout out. I am a huge fan of Jan and all the greats and even created a movie myself which took YEARS. I give stop-motion animators a ton of credit for their patience and work.
  10:01am
trouble:

good morning lilsis! and good morning jennique!
  10:02am
Cecile:

Hey, annie!
  10:03am
Cecile:

Speaking of hilarious stop-motion, did anyone here see "A Town Called Panic"? I laughed until I couldn't breathe any more.
  10:03am
texas scott:

hellough...
  10:06am
annie:

ts.. !! cecile!!!!! hey y'all
  10:06am
tim:

Rusty Warren...
  10:07am
Cecile:

Yes, tim! Bottoms up!
  10:10am
trouble:

good morning texas scott
  10:11am
Mike East:

I'm with you on Madeline Kahn. Great in all her Mel Brooks appearances. I had a thing for her as the empress in History of the World when I was a kid.
  10:11am
tim:

Oh yeah, Moms Mabley too. Her routines about having an affair with the Kennedys are pretty hilarious.
  10:12am
Cecile:

Oh, yeah! Moms!
  10:13am
texas scott:

happy t'giving,everbuddy.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YqZ_5GICeyM
  10:13am
Cecile:

Minnie Pearl!
  10:15am
still b/p:

I was half-tempted by a Rusty Warren album at Goodwill the other day. And the back-of-sleeve copy on a record like that is always a kick.

(I definitely shoulda picked up the Paul Revere & the Raiders album for the extraordinarily purple prose profiles of the boys on the back. The Mark Lindsay bit alone is worth the 99 cents.)
  10:16am
ffrr:

Fanny Brice was a pioneer in vaudeville and radio as well.
  10:16am
BSI:

That rusty warren stuff is classic. Bounces Back, Knockers Up, all great.
  10:17am
dc pat:

town called panic is hilarious, thanks Cecile.
  10:18am
tim:

Rusty's interview in one of the Incredibly Strange Music books is awesome. Shows how much of an ass kicker she was.
  10:18am
Cecile:

I remember that interview well. Ahead of her time! Knockers up!
  10:19am
BSI:

still is, evidently.
http://www.rustywarren.com/
  10:22am
Cecile:

AW, YEAH.
  10:22am
Sylvie:

Flight of the conchords yeaaaaaahhhh
  10:23am
βrian:

It's Tuesday morning, and it's all on.
  10:24am
emily:

thanks for bringing on the man Jemaine! he wears the socks!
  10:25am
still b/p:

He's.....too socksy for his sex.
  10:25am
Cecile:

everyday is Wednesday when the J-man is in the house.
  10:35am
northguineahills:

morning everyone!
  10:46am
rallyjonny:

RL Burnside's birthday today, everybody. Happy Burnside!
  10:57am
esch oder anarchie:

That was one of those perfect skips ... seemed programmed .... haunting ...
  10:58am
βrian:

Vinyl has such a rich, rich, rich, rich sound ...
  10:58am
john:

i hope that skipping was NOT intentional.. because it worked out so perfectly.
  10:58am
Parq:

Younger listeners were not around for the days, in the early 80s, when records were routinely allowed to skip for a full minute or two before they were corrected.
  11:02am
βrian:

Back when the DJ would say, Brother can you spare a dime? Then tape it to the tone arm.
  11:05am
Parq:

βrian, nice big grin over here.
  11:05am
still b/p:

In non-radio play....Over The Hills and Far Away skipped so reliably in the same spots on a church youth center jukebox that the stuck/repeated bits remain part of the way the song's wired in my head.
  11:07am
lilsis:

I think you should make Green cupcakes for DJ Ice Pack's Birthday, oh wait, been there, done that!
  11:07am
Kevin:

tack från sverige!
  11:07am
listener gary:

When did you move to Tuesday? I thought people were doing fill in's for you on the Right day!!
Best...
  11:27am

Great track there by Sharon Van Etten. Holy smokes.

  11:41am
Lou:

Road trip to Rocky Point?
  11:42am
Lee:

I lived in Providence for over 13 years and saw some of its most creative musical output in that time but Blossom Dearie wrote my favorite RI song, hands down.
  11:42am
Parq:

Happy BD to DJIP, a newly minted tweenager.
  11:45am
Jennique:

Happy birthday DJ Icepack! Is he from Rhode Island?
  11:48am
Jennique:

Oh wow, I've never heard a reggae version of Don't Take Your Guns to Town. Makes the whole song kinda chipper, unlike the man in black's version.
