	12:37pm zoot: This sounds to me like it may be an abridged version of the Robert Redford narrated wolf lp. One side was him, the flip side was a series of howls. I've actually converted it to cd along with field recordings of gibbons. My son used to occasionally play them on his collitch radio show.

	12:48pm misterfriendly: first 7" I purchased was either 'sweet home alabama' or 'frankenstein' by edgar winter group. though I did receive a 7" of 'monster mash' as a present from my older brother earlier than that. Said brother also had singles of 'Popcorn' (first techno hit!) and 'Magic Carpet Ride' by Steppenwolf which we would listen to on parents' giant tube-powered console record player. It had a little door at the bottom which revealed the speaker grille - we would lie on our backs and stick our heads inside the speaker compartment, then try to close the doors so it would sound boomier.

	12:53pm Happy Listener: Like many other listeners, my house had 45s when I arrived on the scene in the early 70s. When the tavern on the corner of our block closed, they just threw their Seeburg jukebox in the alley, and my father scavenged it for the speakers and singles. Then my cousins grew out of the music they'd been listening to (they were 6 and 7 years older than I), and donated me their singles collection. I had a ridiculous amount of vinyl as a kid, but I can't remember the first 45 I purchased with my own (allowance) money.
	12:54pm LizGig: This Remmler is a classic that deserves far more airplay. The yodelling was such a thoughtful touch.

	1:07pm LizGig: I was in the US the first time I got singles. My mother took me to Two Guys. Does that shop exist any more? There was a 'buy 7' deal. I'm sure there was a 10cc single. And something on Atlantic. I can remember the label, but I can't remember the single. Around the same time I also got a free copy of 'Diddy Boppin and Motor Mouthin' at the launch of a lighting shop. The DJ was giving them out. And, courtesy of WFMU, I have heard that track within the past few months. By Clara somebody.

GREAT show! running w/the topic -- my first 45 purchase was "Lady Marmalade" by LaBelle -- although as others have mentioned, i also recall being given 45s (i think friends who did not want the records anymore?) -- "Babysitting Boogie," the Beach Boys' version of "Barbara Ann" . . . maybe a few others but those are the ones i remember (oh, the joys of SENILITY ha ha!)

	2:00pm Tom: I only read recently that Peter Cetera's jaw, and thus his jaw-y singing style, is a result of him getting into a fight at a Dodgers game when he was young. Hard to think of loverboy as a fighter too.

	2:05pm Matthew: Most traumatic 7" memory: Not for me, but for my friend's mom. We traded '45's. He got 'Dirty Water' by The Standells, I got 'Mellow Yellow' by Donovan. She made us re-trade because she thought The Standells record was obscene.
	2:06pm Hugo: I can't recall what was the first purchase - have to look through the piles first, but in terms of "inherited" 45s, what comes to mind is the Billy Vaughn version of "La Paloma" and Cliff Richard "Move it!" on yellow vinyl. And some fine Fats Domino tunes. But one of the most interesting ones was "Amazing Grace" by Great Awakening. It was the signature theme for Radio Geronimo back in 1970 and was also an unofficial theme song for the Isle of Wight festival that year. I found it in a record shop in Camden, London, six years later. Thought about it, went in, asked the shop assistant who vanished into the interior of the shop and returned with the object a couple of minutes later. Great shop, but long gone. LAst time she was over I played them all night because there;s some great stuff in there (Belfast Gypsies Secret Police - whaddup mom!), and I thought she'd get a kick outta hearing them all these years later, but mom swore she'd never owned most of them. She even called one of the records 'drug music.'

I've actually converted it to cd along with field recordings of gibbons. My son used to occasionally play them on his collitch radio show.

Said brother also had singles of 'Popcorn' (first techno hit!) and 'Magic Carpet Ride' by Steppenwolf which we would listen to on parents' giant tube-powered console record player. It had a little door at the bottom which revealed the speaker grille - we would lie on our backs and stick our heads inside the speaker compartment, then try to close the doors so it would sound boomier.

	12:53pm Happy Listener: Like many other listeners, my house had 45s when I arrived on the scene in the early 70s. When the tavern on the corner of our block closed, they just threw their Seeburg jukebox in the alley, and my father scavenged it for the speakers and singles. Then my cousins grew out of the music they'd been listening to (they were 6 and 7 years older than I), and donated me their singles collection. I had a ridiculous amount of vinyl as a kid, but I can't remember the first 45 I purchased with my own (allowance) money.

And something on Atlantic. I can remember the label, but I can't remember the single. Around the same time I also got a free copy of 'Diddy Boppin and Motor Mouthin' at the launch of a lighting shop. 	2:05pm Matthew: Most traumatic 7" memory: Not for me, but for my friend's mom. We traded '45's. He got 'Dirty Water' by The Standells, I got 'Mellow Yellow' by Donovan. She made us re-trade because she thought The Standells record was obscene.
	2:06pm Hugo: I can't recall what was the first purchase - have to look through the piles first, but in terms of "inherited" 45s, what comes to mind is the Billy Vaughn version of "La Paloma" and Cliff Richard "Move it!" on yellow vinyl. And some fine Fats Domino tunes. But one of the most interesting ones was "Amazing Grace" by Great Awakening. It was the signature theme for Radio Geronimo back in 1970 and was also an unofficial theme song for the Isle of Wight festival that year. I found it in a record shop in Camden, London, six years later. Thought about it, went in, asked the shop assistant who vanished into the interior of the shop and returned with the object a couple of minutes later. Great shop, but long gone.
