the cowgirls give me the blues.
  7:09pm
dale:

good evening this warm october eve, ms monica
  7:14pm
Don (trip dub):

Mo. When a birth comes in the world so does death.

At the BK Soul Fest, must've mentioned to 10 people how producer Eli Reed is sounding more like Rev. Burke. Betty Harris herself said onstage how she felt there's gonna be a loss. Lennon would've been same age. Feh.
  7:14pm
texas scott:

Solomon Burke will rest and the legacy will endure.
<3
  7:16pm
cb1:

From the sound of it, Solomon Burke passed? Sad.

Hope you're doin fine tonight Monica
  7:18pm
monica:

hi there t'scott, dale, and Don (trip dub), and CB1 - thank you for comin' by tonight. we lost a king AND a queen this week - solomon burke and albertina walker. let's pour a little out for them both...

  7:20pm
texas scott:

  7:20pm
Sam:

I'm trying to write an essay. I'm liking these tracks. They're really helping me focus.
  7:21pm
bill:

Nice segue from tricky, but when i was little, "Rock on" always scared the shit out of me
  7:22pm
monica:

evenin' bill and sam, great to hear from you both! t'scott, yes indeed they are.
  7:24pm
bill:

  7:24pm
Don (trip dub):

If Phil Manzanera married Ray Manzarek they'd be [fill in the blank]
  7:26pm
texas scott:

phil and ray,don.DUH
  7:28pm
McGinty:

Ahh yes, Phil and Ray, the great comedy duo.
  7:30pm
Jeff M:

"Rock On" has the obscure distinction of being the only song I ever requested (successfully) on a big ol' commercial rock FM station back in the day. Either WNEW or the NYC K-Rock. I asked for it because my girlfriend at the time liked it.

Wikiwiki says David Essex had 19 top-40 singles in the UK. I didn't immediately recognize any of the others in the list, though.
  7:32pm
trs:

I looked up Rock On, too, wondering on the release date.

It was 1973.
  7:33pm
bill:

i think he may have been big in europe more than here
  7:36pm
dale:

don kirshner's rock concert
  7:37pm

Bruce:

Oy vey!
The bear missed the train!
Now he's walking.
  7:43pm
Windy City:

Ill send ya over a "Grey Hound"
  7:43pm
Detroit Mac:

It was Don Kershner's Rock Concert. I went to a taping (as I was dating a gal who hung with Steely Dan, before they hit big). By the time they got around to SD over half of the audience had headed home, so the production people had everybody move close down front to make it look like a crowd was there (but it was only a few hundred folks by then).
  7:43pm
Don (trip dub):

Solomon Burke really performed while sitting on a kings throne. Saw him at Tarrytown a few years back with the Uptown Horns backing. He was being recorded for an NPR show that Ruth Brown hosted 'Blues Stage.' By meir bist du shain. Please let me explain.
  7:44pm
texas scott:

i once shook the big-ass hand of John Larroquette.he was bigger than frankenstein.on the set of JFK. Costner was tiny and standoffish.
my brush with fame.
  7:44pm
Jeff M:

Wow, Mills Brothers - when I heard that (really) old-school beatboxing, I was thinking Comedian Harmonists.
  7:45pm
cb1:

Speaking of Comedian Harmonists, does anyone know what became of the B'way show about them?
  7:47pm
Don (trip dub):

@cb1 - turned out to be Spiderman - turn off the dark
  7:51pm
Jeff M:

How's this for a near-miss with fame: I nearly mowed down Wallace Shawn as he was coming out of a bathroom at Carnegie Hall, and I was heading toward it at a good clip. He's so little that he was scurrying along below where my gaze was aimed and I didn't see him 'til the last moment.
  7:51pm
Ken in Denver:

Chuck Berry is my newest Facebook friend.
  7:51pm
McGinty:

@ aid macspade
Yes, I think I've heard of Bob and Ray as well. However they never quite gained the popularity that Phil and Ray enjoyed. Phil has a son named Chris, who was also very popular and had his own TV show. Very funny family! I hear Chris' daughter is quite the funny one as well.
  7:54pm
monica:

hola mister mcginty, need to bone up on phil & ray...jeff, thanks again for the tunes, sir...hi trs, that makes me feel ancient...dale, ah yes...hello aid macspade...dale, that takes the pancake fer sure...Tom ( The Bactrian Support Network ), cheers right back atcha!...thanks cb uno....bruce, love me some oy vey-ness...windy city, LOVE that!...Detroit Mac, wow, you were THERE...Ken in Denver, oh man...
  7:55pm
JTKMDNY:

Haven't heard this song in about 30+ years. Wonderful fune
  7:58pm
Don (trip dub):

Saw Larry Storch at a book signing (artist-Drew Friedman). FMUs Dave 'the spazz' gave the interview and Larry did stand up sitting down. An autograph seeker said "Mr. Stork, I have all your movies!"
  7:58pm
monica:

Hi JTKMDNY, never heard it myself until recently. happy you can hear again...
  7:59pm
trs:

'Ancient' only if it's on the rocks with 'timeless'. And shaken with a good shot of now. Er, now.
  8:00pm
Jeff M:

I've never heard of a team called "Phil and Ray", but well remember Bob and Ray from their iconic presence on the radio in the '60s and '70s. All those sketches and funny voices...
It was probably WOR we heard them on. My dad liked Bob & Ray and Rambling with Gambling.
  8:00pm
aid macspade:

mcginty,
thanks a million. do you have a last name for either? i'll look them up
  8:04pm
Don (trip dub):

@ aid macspade - manzarek and manzanera (Goulding and Elliot)
  8:08pm
aid macspade:

"deet dee dee!! what a chump.. i didn't go back far enough.......sorry
  8:10pm
Ken in Denver:

As for Mom expressions, I suppose "hell's bells" wasn't all that unique.
  8:13pm
Don (trip dub):

If The Psychedelic Aliens married The Psychedelic Furs they'd be... never mind. I liked when Bill Cosby quoted his mom, "I'll knock you into the middle of next week"
  8:13pm
Ken in Denver:

So, how should I fill the hour between Monica and Mad Men?
  8:13pm
bennett4senate:

cb1:

"Blessed by the best!"
  8:25pm
McGinty:

I'm afraid my protracted dissertation on Phil and Ray was essentially ... a sham. However, it was meant as a homage and done in the spirit of the great Bob and Ray. I apologize for anyone I may have offended and hurt in the process.
  8:26pm
monica:

Well hey there B4S, great to have you checkin' in!... hi cheri, you're swell under any moniker...KinD, moms know bestest...CB1, there aren't enuf teef in my mouf to thank you for that...

  9:37pm

Working late on a sunday is not my usual listening time... so it is great to hear your music mix. Nice stuff. Any suggestions I might offer would only make me look stupid! (my brain is melting from 15 hours today on the imac)
