Favoriting Bryce: Playlist from September 3, 2010 Favoriting

I never miscue a record. I am punctual, well-prepared, and dislike clutter. Outgoing and helpful, I'm always appropriately dressed. I do not behave erratically and have excellent penmanship. My CD's never skip, and I am in good health. I like all the notes, in any order.

  12:36pm
Whitfield and Strong:

It was the third of September,
That day I'll always remember, yes I will.
'Cause that was the day that my daddy died.

  12:42pm
Ike:

It really sounds much more like nuns dangled upside-down by their feet and forced to warble incessantly by Simon Cowell with a lighter and/or a soul-sapping void in the space-time continuum which wants to consume their souls.
  12:43pm
Simon Cowell:

Way too karaoke. Seriously.
  12:43pm
Ike:

Oops, I meant their eyeballs. The void is after their eyeballs. Crucial distinction.
  12:44pm
bryce:

simon, i want a HOT PLATE!!!!!!!!!
  12:44pm
Hugo:

In the aftermath of the void ...
  12:45pm
Simon Cowell:

Speaking of void, I need to use the loo. NOW.
  12:47pm
the shining:

ooh Penderecki on vinyl! what is this??
  12:48pm
bryce:

anagram gables:

Any true naturey tune ray.
  1:03pm
Penderecki:

You train your own orchestra. This one's mine. (Not dead yet, but working on it.)
  1:04pm
the twin girls from the shining:

holy shit this Penderecki is amazing. just bought the cd for $5 new.
  1:04pm
Jack Torrance:

Here's Johnny!

  1:07pm
bryce:

there is absolutely nothing wrong with a $5 purchase ever
  1:18pm
CD Disc:

MP3's killed the audio star. (Not dead yet, but posting from the ICU.)
  1:21pm
scatman carruthers:

i'd still rather buy cds than mp3s...
  1:23pm
Vinyl, CDs, 78s, cylinders, piano rolls, et al.:

Thank goddd for diehards!!!!! Luv yaz!
  1:23pm
Jack Torrance:

Got to see Penderecki conduct two of his own pieces back in January.
  1:23pm
Mike East:

I'm with you, scatman. I don't take risks with mp3's. When I purchase used CD's I buy stuff I've never heard before and I know that none of my friends own.
  1:25pm
CD disc:

I got one word for you, MP3: Lossy.
  1:29pm
scatman carruthers:

@jack: that must have been a real treat. @mike: i'm fine with the whole "cds are dead" thing as i can them as cheap or cheaper than mp3s now. let people believe it. tapes and vinyl are still around! you can covert down from cd if you want, but you can never go up from a compressed mp3... the fast food of the music "indiustry"
  1:31pm
scatman carruthers:

sorry for the spelling errors. another casualty of the digital age...
  1:33pm
upstate sean:

yo bryce, man, this is crazy music
  1:34pm
upstate sean:

and if you play this backwards, it is the theme music from Lets Make A Deal
  1:36pm
Parq:

Two points, sean. This is bringing a lot to mind, including the choral passage from the 1812 Overture and that Carl Orff piece that all the movie trailers use.
  1:37pm
nic:

if you asked me i'd never think of it but i always dig Penderecki
  1:39pm
upstate sean:

seriously, it is good. Lots of action!
People are upset!
  1:40pm
Mark from Pompton Plains:

Bryce lovin the show. This turmoil and distrust of the gods is perfect for my first Imperialist Literature assignment. You rock!
  1:41pm
bryce:

:) penderecki rocks!!!!!!!!

i push "play"
  1:41pm
Grady:

Bryce is the caretaker. Bryce has always been the caretaker.
  1:43pm
Hugo:

  1:43pm
Looms:

The light from the lighthouse shines on me
  1:47pm
bryce:

sure! it's the "warsaw national philharmonic orchestra and choir" version released on "polskie nagrania" — got a different version at home, but just came across this in the fmu library today . . . freakin blew me away. rockstar energy!!! but really sensitive...i believe.mr. p was around to wave his finger about for this one....

this sucker -----> http://bit.ly/bx3Ajj
  1:54pm
here's johnny:

i found this version (also with the warsaw national...) and picked up a copy: http://www.naxos.com/catalogue/item.asp?item_code=8.572031
  1:54pm
Jack Torrance:

I get the sense that Penderecki is a composer first and a conductor second. From what I gather, the orchestra had a bit of a difficult time getting in synch with him at first, and there were a couple difficult rehearsals. But performance was good; he conducted his Resurrection Symphony, which is a recent piece and represents a turn back toward more conventional orchestral sounds.
  1:57pm
annie:

this doesn't sound like it was written by monks, parq....this may be more in line with gorecki's symphony of sorrowful songs?? bryce? how close am i?
  2:01pm
Hugo:

There is also an American recording with Temple University Choir and the Philadelphia Orchestra and a brand new Naxos one. Yeah, this is spectacular!
  2:02pm
annie:

what i'm suggesting is it sounds more like a requiem...
  2:04pm
jk:

is that how you say it? I've heard that name pronounced like chystoff but I couldn't say for sure
  2:08pm
bryce:

yeah! "sz" is like our "sh."
and "rz" is the same...but 'darker'?

sort of "kshishtoff," i think....is there a pole in the house??
  2:09pm
bryce:

er, & "c" is "ts?" unless i'm full of shit. i'd hate to break character
  2:10pm
shit:

i am half full of ts
  2:10pm
bryce:

fantastic, i'm downhill!

mnaaaaaaaaaa
  2:17pm
jk:

I yes, I meant to say 'shystoff'
I've heard the artist krzysztof wodiczko pronounce it like that, with a sh at the beginning
  2:18pm
jk:

no, not shystoff, 'shistoff'
  2:19pm
jk:

no wait, I think he actually pronounces it "Bryce"
  2:20pm
Marco D Argento:

  2:27pm

  2:28pm
annie:

so... fine.... don't tell me...
  2:30pm
Mike East:

my new headphones have arrived! Hooray for stereo sound!
  2:36pm
cora mihalik:

bryce, you rock.
  2:37pm
Joes:

This (Vision se l'Amen) is an amazing work!! Can you post what album this is from, or who's playing.
  2:41pm
bryce:

:)

annie! just saw what you were talking about....that's symphony no.3, right??

really love that one! for me, it's kind of like what barber's "adagio for strings" is supposed to be like, but on a scale that can really draw me in. i just always find myself wishing the soprano sung without vibrato. but i'm prolly cuckoo
  2:45pm
annie:

yes it is sym #3 .... it reminded me more of that... ..not so joyful a piece... but deep .. and it's funny i loved the soprano in that..now i have to listen again; see if your comment rings true..
  2:46pm
Marco D Argento:

Yes Bryce I have two very long staircases!
  2:48pm
death:

go to the very very top and look way over. i'm waiting for you.
  2:53pm
cora mihalik:

SWEET JESUS!
