Listener comments!

  11:07pm
A:

Anyone getting a "Fire on the Mountain" vibe from that Hot Chocolate?
  11:08pm
Danne D:

That Hot Chocolate went good with the hot chocolate I'm drinking :)

Good evening Funk Faithful!
  11:10pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

Damn I just walked in the door and I missed Hot Chocolate!
  11:15pm
JustSheaNo:

EFD on a gosh darned roll tonight
  11:15pm
Danne D:

That of course would be a hoagie roll.
  11:16pm
efd:

JustSheaNo, making the transition from Twitter! Nice to see you!

Welcome back Michael - sorry you missed the Hot Chocolate. What was your SXSW highlight?

Greetings Danne, A, and all lurkers!
  11:17pm
will:

So glad to be here with you Evan. Wasn't FLINT the Grand Funk offshoot? Is this what their LP sounded like??
  11:17pm
JustSheaNo:

Taylor ham on that hoagie? Allowed?
  11:18pm
Danne D:

Hmm that terminology would seem to be crossing the North Jersey/South Jersey streams.
  11:18pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

Thanks EFD--highlights were V.V. Brown, Nicole Atkins and Holly Miranda, although Priestess were pretty damned great (I attended with AZ who is at Paul McCartney concert tonight)
  11:19pm
Danne D:

But Taylor Ham is tasty :) Might have to have that for breakfast now. (on a bagel)
  11:19pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

Hah--I thought it sounded like Tom Robinson--never heard this one before
  11:19pm
Danne D:

No AZ tonight :(

We might have to start calling roll each week...
  11:20pm
Vanda Young:

OMG
  11:20pm
claynferno:

we don't hear enough covers of THE DAN!
  11:20pm
scratchbomb:

it's a Steely Dan mashup!
  11:20pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

AZ is not in the lineup tonight.
  11:20pm
Kat:

Tom "Glad To Be Gay" Robinson covering Steely Dan. mind is slightly boggled.
  11:21pm
efd:

Tom "Glad To Be Gay" Robinson also has a wife and two kids, just btw.
  11:22pm
Danne D:

From the allmusic.com entry:

Source: http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=11:3ifoxqr5ldje~T1

"A brief period of silence ended with him, somewhat surprisingly, signing with Geffen and releasing Hope and Glory. It was a politically tinged but mostly mainstream rock record that featured a cover of that decidedly non-punk song, Steely Dan's "Rikki Don't Lose That Number," with Robinson deftly exploring the song's homoerotic subtext. Still, it wasn't enough to resuscitate his career and for the remainder of the decade Robinson released England-only albums that tried the patience of even longtime fans.

As to his current whereabouts, Robinson is (amazingly) rumored to be married to a woman and raising a family in England. He's still writing songs and occasionally performing, also working as a DJ for BBC6."
  11:22pm
Aharon:

Danne, calling roll is flat out rude to those of use celebrating passover.
Not that I am.
Though the pun maybe deserves some yom kippur style atoning.
  11:22pm
maria:

Daggit Evan Im gonna stay up past my bedtime because this here show is funkin me oouuuuutttt!
  11:22pm
Danne D:

Btw, that may be the most deft reference to Ricky Martin's announcement that anyone has or will make. Well done, EFD.
  11:24pm
Kat:

mind is thoroughly boggled now. thanks efd & danne d!
  11:25pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

I listen to TR on BBC 6music all the time and he's very good. Sounds like he smoked a bunch of cigarettes since the early eighties though.
He was interviewed as part of a recent BBC documentary on Todd Rundgren and he said Rundgren made the second TRB album in less than two weeks of part time sessions.
  11:25pm
Danne D:

Passover is an excused absence of course, Aharon. And to those who know my last name, my Catholic upbringing will serve as both surprising as well as my reason for mananging to forget passover no less than 3 times this week.

Calling Roll may be the most deft reference to the conversation about hoagies and taylor ham that anyone has or will make. Well done, Aharon.
  11:26pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

EFD--are your homies up north flooded?
  11:26pm
Vanda Young:

Let us play two!
  11:26pm
scratchbomb:

the '75 Red Sox did it their way, baby! /Nelson Riddle arrangement
  11:26pm
Danne D:

Frank Sinatra serving as the backdrop from a Red Sox tribute is like Taylor Ham on a Hoagie Roll...
  11:27pm
nec13:

Bernie Carbo!
  11:28pm
efd:

Maria, perhaps this Red Sox recap will allow you to drift off to sleep.

Greetings Claynferno and scratchbomb (more twitter pals!), nec13, Kat, Vanda Young and Aharon. Almost baseball season!
  11:29pm
Danne D:

Still 3, that's THREE! Big spots left in Evan's "A Happy How Do You To You" fantasy baseball league featuring such luminaries and Evan Funk, Aharon, and a cast of, well, 7 more.

I have a big announcement about my team name coming up! Stay tuned!
  11:29pm
nec13:

If Ken Freedman were smart, he'd offer a timeslot to Bill "Spaceman" Lee.
  11:29pm
scratchbomb:

i can't wait! although maybe i should
  11:29pm
efd:

Michael, I think my Mass ppl are holding up OK... I need to double check with them tomorrow, though.
  11:30pm
nec13:

Is this a pay league?
  11:31pm
efd:

nope, it's free Free FREE! On the yahoo platform.

Dick Pole! Can you imagine if there were a player with that name today?!
  11:31pm
scratchbomb:

amazingly, i'm only in one league this year (so far). i'm usually in 4 or 5
  11:31pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

EFD--is this Castiglione doing the narration?
  11:32pm
scratchbomb:

Dick Pole was the Reds' pitching coach for a while
  11:32pm
nec13:

I wouldn't mind joining, Evan. If there are still spots available, that is.
  11:33pm
Danne D:

Dick Pole was to baseball what Dick Trickle was to NASCAR :)
  11:35pm
Danne D:

Those who can't wait can go to the league page and see the nifty new name and logo :)

I deliberated a lot but I think it's a winner :)
  11:35pm
maria:

thank you Evan! I need to do a show tomorrow!
  11:35pm
efd:

Michael, it's Ned Martin narrating.

nec13, there are at least 3 spots open - and if there's enough interest I could even expand it to 14 teams. Email me at evan at wfmu dot org and I'll send you the info later tonight or tomorrow.
  11:36pm
scratchbomb:

i will also emai, for i am far too few leagues this year
  11:37pm
efd:

wow, this is longer than I thought it was.

Sleep well Maria, see you on the radio tomorrow!
  11:37pm
Aharon:

I have a different version of this track on my Greatest Hits album.
  11:38pm
Danne D:

So Evan, we are going with a head-to-head format this year, is that right?

I'm amazed to hear Cecil Cooper and Juan Beniquez come up - didn't realize they were part of the 75 team. (I was of course 5 at the time).

This is the Inna Gadda Da Vida of baseball albums.
  11:39pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

EFD---there was one spot where a voice other than Martin's was talking, sort of like just now and I wanted to know if that was Castiglione (having never heard him do a game)
  11:40pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

Like many "live" albums I find it interesting that this one was clearly overdubbed afterward in a studio
  11:41pm
efd:

Jim Woods is the other play-by-play man. I think Castig started with the Sox a little later.
  11:42pm
nec13:

During the 1950's and 60's, Jim Woods worked with Bob Prince on Pirates broadcasts
  11:43pm
Danne D:

Uh, I hesitate to ask how many parts there are :)
  11:44pm
nec13:

That was great, Evan.
  11:44pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

Nec-13 I thought Bob Prince was one of the greatest PBP guys ever-- I remember him doing the World Seris on NBC when the Pirates were in it and Prince was terrific
  11:45pm
Danne D:

Awwwwwwwww. Yeah Terre T!
  11:45pm
kamper:

There' s nothing quite like listening to someone catch a baseball.
  11:47pm
nec13:

He was one of the greats, Michael. A true original.
  11:48pm
Danne D:

For the hell of it, I through in the phrase "Red Sox Rap" into youtube and this is the first thing to come out:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRDpRZDFSRE

I did not pre-listen to it, though I presume it's PG - but perhaps not.
  11:51pm
Danne D:

Evan, you should mention it's an auto-draft league.
  11:52pm
kamper:

If you're playing sport's related music, how about the Chicago Bear's 'Superbowl Shuffle"?

http://www.theonion.com/articles/85-chicago-bears-return-to-studio,1622/
  11:53pm
Danne D:

Anybody can play the Super Shuffle. But how about the Who Dey Rap? :)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Eh5c8fE_kI
  11:53pm
Danne D:

back in a bit
  11:54pm
nec13:

Get Metsmerized!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpvufrpAhls
  11:54pm
kamper:

Danne
God that was awful
  11:54pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

By the way EFD, Everyone was in the French Resistance Now was a lot of fun at SXSW too (AZ and I saw that one together as well)
  11:56pm
kamper:

Got 'em all beat:
12 Days of Cleveland Browns Christmas.
The song was recorded and then the Browns LOST in the playoffs.
  11:57pm
scratchbomb:

holy crap, this is good
  12:22am
dave:

what scratchbomb said, except about white hills. yow.
  12:23am
Vanda Young:

do you mind if I freak out?
  12:24am
efd:

under the circumstances I think that's allowed, VY.

dave- Agreed!
  12:43am
Michael from the Left Coast:

Correct EFD-- those Neon Boys tracks predate the influx of bands playing at CBGB and so they would be 1973 or 74,
  12:54am
VY:

Cosmetics make 2010 look 30 years younger
  12:55am
efd:

good one!
  12:57am
Danne D:

That 12 Days of Cleveland Browns looks great. Of course I'm a Bengals fan, so the loss makes it awesome :)
  12:58am
dan:

I like the lonelady record. you know what would sound good next? The Method Actors.
  12:59am
efd:

ooh dan, you were only off by one song! stay tuned...
  1:04am
Danne D:

So here's the big announcement :)
My 2010 Evan Funk Davies A Happy How Do You To You Baseball League team name is....

The New Jersey Knuckles :)
http://baseball.fantasysports.yahoo.com/b1/555425/8
  1:09am
Tony:

I think John Lydon is actually "gigging" again with PiL (i.e. playing shows), but maybe he is laughing with them too?
  1:10am
Michael from the Left Coast:

Ventolin and Becotide--a great name (for those unaware--they're both asthma medicines)
  1:13am
efd:

Tony - I think I'm gonna stick with "giggling," but I suppose "gigging" is also correct.

Michael - as a one-time Ventolin prescribee I should have caught that! Although I haven't heard of Becotide before.
  1:18am
Michael from the Left Coast:

EFD--Becotide is the british name for one of the non-absorbed steroid inhalers (the long acting one not the albuterol one). Spoken as a pharmacist's son
  1:18am
Danne D:

Btw, kamper, love how Art Modell replaces True Love in that Browns Christmas song :)
  1:23am
Danne D:

That's rather unfortunate.

Also gotta be the only football themed song to name check both the Center and the Kicker
  1:26am
Danne D:

WOOOOOOHOOOOOO!!!!
Harry!!!
  1:29am
efd:

yeah, I should brought this in and played it last week. Although it's not Alex who gets interviewed, as you'll hear...
  1:41am
Michael from the Left Coast:

EFD--is the Harbor Lights new?
  1:44am
efd:

new-ish; from 2009.

and short!
  1:46am
sam:

harbor lights, Bionic. ribs Yes!!!!
  1:52am
Danne D:

Good night Funk Friends :)
Can't wait until the autodraft results (still have to finish setting my list). Hope that it's more like Santa Claus than Art Modell!
  1:55am
efd:

good night Danne and all - see you next week!
  1:59am
slugluv1313:

now was that "don't treat me like a step child" OR "don't treat my like a step stool"?!?!?!?!
