  12:07pm
caveman:

i have been in a dark cave since January 9th - i have no contact with outside word aside from this show, which i will listen to weekly until the battery on my laptop dies - this is the life i want
  12:08pm
Brian:

I'm more of a coffee party sort.
  12:08pm
Joe Steele:

This is my first chance to sit and comment since Hoof & Mouth. May I say, well done.
  12:11pm
jeff-m:

thx for the Cabaret Voltaire!
  12:12pm
Cecile:

Coffee for me. I'd like an IV drip. please
  12:13pm
north guinea hills:

time to brew some tea at work. i gave up coffee last year.
  12:15pm
Cecile:

I'm cutting back. Makes me enjoy it more.

some days are harder than others.
  12:17pm
Cecile:

YES.
chopin.
  12:19pm
north guinea hills:

chopin following cocteau twins makes for a happy post-bday hangover at work. more '"C's"
  12:19pm
osvi:

Wonderful way to start the workday!
  12:19pm
Carmichael:

I've never drank coffee. Even in the military. Even in college.

Nothing but tea for me.
  12:20pm
Cecile:

aha! It is C day.

How about some Cameo?
  12:21pm
maria:

I'm mostly a tea person these days, but today it is black coffee, thank you very much
  12:22pm
Carmichael:

Or Caravan? Camel?
  12:24pm
Cecile:

Oooh! Cassiano - that hits the Brazilian vibe.
  12:24pm
maria:

I'd love to play Cameo, but played them a lot recently so, on to other C peeps
  12:31pm
Paul from Minneapolis:

Maria Levitsky's show brought to you today by the letter "C."
  12:31pm
Golden Sours:

Maybe some Bobby Conn, perhaps?
  12:31pm
brock:

hi, Maria this is an awesome show
  12:33pm
north guinea hills:

as long as bobby conn involves some.....satan!!!!
  12:35pm
north guinea hills:

I've been listening to my physical musical media (non-mp3's) in alphabetical order at home (when not listening to new purchases) since September 2008 and right now I'm up to Christian Fennesz. It's completely arbitrary but I've rediscovered some music I'd never listen to again otherwise.
  12:36pm
Jerz:

HA! Mariar! i love that
  12:36pm
Ghost of Ricky Medlock:

That 3 U comment just made my brains explode!
  12:37pm
Golden Sours:

I've been doing a very similar project myself, NGH. You forget about some of the gems that are in your collection and it really takes you back to when you got that particular album.
  12:37pm
Golden Sours:

I heard said explosion.
  12:44pm
tomasz.:

i know i'm a little late, but coffee please! no British stereotypes for me.
  12:45pm
Cecile:

we were at a Johnny Cash concert, and as we left, some young jer k goes 'what a lame show. He didn't say 'I'm Johnny Cash' all the time, and who was that crazy old lady who came out and sang with him."

My husband goes, "This is Johnny Cash! He doesn't need a catchphrase! And that lady is June Carter Cash! Her family practically invented country music! You guys are idiots!"

Reader, there's a reason I married him.
  12:47pm
north guinea hills:

nice, Cecile, I would have just bashed my head into the wall repeatedly if I was in that situation.
  12:48pm
Cecile:

He was great. They just stood there gobsmacked as we talked away.
  12:50pm
Carmichael:

@tomasz: It's not so much the British stereotype, but the "less than manly" stereotype that irks me.

Oh, since I'm Irish, maybe the British one DOES bother me ....
  12:51pm
Cecile:

Tea is a manly man's drink, a girly girl's drink, a drink for everyone! My dad has drunk it as long as I can remember - he started because he had an ulcer.
  12:53pm
north guinea hills:

And on weekend morning, an irished up cup of tea kicks ass!
  12:54pm
coelacanth:

hi Maria ! 'checked out a very wee bit of your photography ...I'm impressed.. . .i must go outside to work, but Thank you for what i know will be a great show. . . .Cecile - i got angry before i even reached the end of that story. .Settin it straight w/out hitting them on the head...you married well.
  12:56pm
the screaming wheats:

hello!
  12:58pm
The Screaming Wheats:

Put us on the air. myspace.com/thescreamingwheats
  12:59pm
coelacanth:

oh! i've 2 more cents. . .That comment about british stereotypes was stereotyping. -ps I drink Irish breakfast tea, but today had coffee- hence my fiestyness.
  1:01pm
Carmichael:

I'm drinking Irish Breakfast tea right this moment. You're a wise one, coelacanth, despite your momentary lapse of reason ...
  1:03pm
BSI:

Back from a bathtub o'curry gluten! What did I miss?
aieeeee, a Tago Mago track, alas....
  1:04pm
tomasz.:

Carmichael, Coelacanth: sorry, should have mentioned that i myself am English, so it was a shot at self-deprecating humour/playing on stereotypes... which would've worked a lot better if you'd know that. ha ha.

by the way, there're also a lot of 'C' people in the comments today... should i adopt a pseudonym for the occasion? t.x
  1:04pm
Jackie ny-ca:

George Gershwin.
  1:04pm
tomasz.:

"if you'd knowN that", sorry. i am failing at this commentary lark today.
  1:05pm
north guinea hills:

I drink irish breakfast tea usually (or green,or oolong) usually, but like to irish up on the weekends w/ some irish whiskey.... (i'm only 1/32 irish, i just like the work 'irish' as a verb....)
  1:06pm
The Screaming Wheats:

I like just the irish. A hot cup of whiskey in the morning.
  1:07pm
J-Mar:

hey, I had Irish breakfast tea today too! I'm a big fan of Keemun and Yunnan teas too, though.
  1:08pm
Cecile:

I like black coffee and iced green tea (no sugar)

YES: Dannon coffee yogurt was awesome.
  1:08pm
BSI:

Coffee worshipper here. Kenya AA beans if available. Black as death. No additives. No nuthin'.
  1:08pm
north guinea hills:

I quit coffee b/c it was fucking up my gi tract. in grad school i was up to 2 pots a day. it's nice not to have caffeine crash.

i started drinking coffee before going to my parent's church when i was 9.

miss the taste of good beans.
  1:09pm
Cecile:

Could you play Citay?
  1:09pm
em:

yes, dannon coffee yogurt! i am SO with you on that! i was addicted to coffee flavor from early childhood. which explains why i put so much sugar in my coffee as an adult. which is why i don't drink it too much (vicious cycle).
  1:09pm
Cecile:

I like Tanzanian Peaberry myself, BSI. But yeah, rarely cream or sugar.
  1:10pm
Brian:

Does anybody recall the "Coffee Achiever" ad campaign?
  1:11pm
bartelby:

My opinion is that Dunkin Donuts has the best coffee with possible exception of some independent diners.
  1:11pm
Cecile:

Yes. It was amazing.
As I have ADHD, I call coffee "poor man's Ritalin."
  1:12pm
J-Mar:

Wait, you mean Dannon doesn't make coffee yogurt anymore? I guess they've got a lot more yogurt competition these days, compared to when we were kids.
  1:12pm
Cecile:

yes, bartleby, I love DD coffee.

Some more Cs:
Carl Cox
Carl Craig
ConFunkShun
  1:13pm
LizGig:

If you really want Irish breakfast (or any time) tea, you need Lyon's or Barry's. Personally, Anything else is an imposter, even if the label says 'Irish' on it. (Bewley's is, of course, also an Irish blend, but personally I think it's [piss.)
  1:15pm
Brian:

Camille!
  1:15pm
coelacanth:

Dammit! i just came back for the dogs (er,canines) 'got sucked back in. . .Thanks for clarification, tomasz. actually i love coffee-i just dont think it loves me.
  1:16pm
Cecile:

Chromeo
  1:16pm
BSI:

mental note: future song title: Poor Man's Ritalin...
  1:16pm
LizGig:

Ugh. Can I edit my last post? Delete the 'Personally,' and the '['. I am literate, honest.
  1:17pm
Cecile:

LOL, BSI. I get a credit if it gets big...

And a good name for a band:
"The Scare Quotes"
  1:18pm
Carmichael:

@Lizgig: I miss Barry's tea a lot (grew up in Wexford, live now in California), but I found Harney's to be a more-than-suitable substitute.
  1:18pm
bartelby:

You know Earl Gray was the British Prime Minister who gave Jewish folks the vote
  1:19pm
LizGig:

@Carmichael, do family not send you care packages?
  1:20pm
tomasz.:

wow, "The Scare Quotes" *is* a good band name! i'm sort of a collector of those. one day i'm going to have record one song as each of my great potential band names, just to stake my claim on them.
  1:21pm
Cecile:

Harney's herb teas are superb.
  1:21pm
maria:

Sonali Assam tea from India is my faaaave right now. get it in little India lex/29th street
  1:21pm
a guy in a chair in a cube:

Hey everyone. I've had coffee yogurt sometime in the past year or so. Pretty sure it's still around. Might have been Yoplait or something.
  1:21pm
J-Mar:

Well, Earl Grey deserves a tea named after him for sure, but that's just not everyday drinking tea in my opinion. It's, I dunno, tea party tea (but not *that* Tea Party, of course).
  1:21pm
bartleby:

please play something crappy so I can go the post office
  1:22pm
LizGig:

Maria, superior show once again.
  1:23pm
chris:

I'm with bartleby... gotta pee, which means no headphones... play something I *dont* want to hear
  1:25pm
north guinea hills:

don't worry, LizGig, i can barely post w/o an error. even after previewing.

@cool trivia bartleby
  1:26pm
Brian:

I'd go for the "Pull Quotes."
  1:28pm
mike in brooklyn:

yo, maria... where does that reframe come from?... i've heard that before.
  1:28pm
BSI:

Rogue Ampersand and the Pull Quotes?
  1:29pm
Carmichael:

@LizGig: Nah, they don't care that much. I've started my own family here, and the old fossils back home are winding down, cousins into their own things, etc ...

The missus found a box of Barry's in the back of some import store. Totally surprised me!
  1:31pm
LizGig:

@Carmichael: And tins of Heinz beans for $2! When I was in SF there was a shop that stocked both Barry's and Lyon's. Kept me out of withdrawal.
  1:31pm
slugluv1313:

insane in the brain, YEAH!!!!! GREAT SHOW as always, Maria!!!!!!
  1:32pm
LC:

Yay!!
  1:32pm
tomasz.:

YES! Cypress Hill. the two or three bars where the beat drops into kind of weird carny organ music is one of my favourite bits in any record.
  1:34pm
yayson:

genmaicha, or maté
  1:36pm
BSI:

i'll second the maté -- so that makes me a coffee/tea double-agent. Schizophrenic, probably.
  1:36pm
coelacanth:

if you (that's ALL of you, pref at the SAME TIME) are ever in new paltz,n.y.,check out the Mudpuddle (NOT "muddycup") for excelent I.breakfast,E. breakfast,& coffee they roast 2-3 X/week there...(their earlgrey's a bit too bergamotty (!)for me...i think it should be subtle)
  1:39pm
jeanne:

"C" is for COLLAGE!!! awesome piece by Daniel Crafts
  1:43pm
LizGig:

Everyone, if you come to Ireland I will give you cake to go with all this tea and coffee.
  1:45pm
BSI:

ooh..... so speaking of the Christiane F track:
I take it "Gesundheit" is properly spelled with an "s" but I often see it with a "z" ... is it a crime against nature to use the "Gezundheit" spelling?
  1:45pm
Carmichael:

I may take you up on that, Liz. I'll be there around October, hopefully. My cousins are Dublin Northsiders.
  1:47pm
LizGig:

Do, Carmichael. We are 10 minutes from the N7. Turn left at Moneygall, follow the road into the village, past the RC church and the Centra and park in front of the green. We're directly across from there. Closed Mondays. If I'm not there, tell them I said to put it on my tab.
  1:48pm
LizGig:

You can also get the train from Heuston.
  1:50pm
Brian:

Coffee is the corrective for catatonia.
  1:51pm
Carmichael:

LOL, I thought you meant Jaffa cakes in the garden! You've a real storefront, then? OK, barring any financial disasters, we'll pop over.
  1:55pm
LizGig:

Oh we do. Superior cake, superior bikkies, very good coffee (roasted in Port Arlington of all places), impromptu tours of the ecovillage, chatty regulars, pretty village. Lots to like. You can check us out on Facebook if you like. Sheelagh na Gig (bookshop)
  1:57pm
chris:

Maria, would Nick Cave or Manu Chao be nice additions to the C Section?
  2:08pm
Cecile:

Be back in a bit. Need lunch!
  2:11pm
chris:

You are the best, Maria! Con Mucho Amore...
  2:11pm

  2:22pm
jeanne:

  2:24pm
PMD:

@ BSI, well, it's a crime against German nature. Do you care? use a 'z' and you are uncouth. 's' is the real German.

Commander Corny:

C is for Cookie. and for Costello. and Charlie Mingus. and Charlie Christian. and Charlie Byrd.
  2:31pm
a guy in a char in a cube:

C is for Creed, Helios and also Chrome for that matter. Actually this Ciccione Youth song reminds me of Cold Clammy Bombing which is probably why that popped into my head.
  2:31pm
PMD:

@BSI, well, you'll appeal to all the 'hip' Germans.
@ Karen. Done. Trying to lose weight anyways.
  2:32pm

  2:53pm
Cecile:

Before I heard the Beach Boys' version, I liked their version of "Disney Girls"
  2:54pm
dc pat:

I wonder if you could mash up Capt. Sensible with this somehow. you know, The Captain Sensible and Tennille...
  2:55pm
Cecile:

YES. This was exactly the song I wanted to hear. Thank you, Maria.
  2:55pm
