A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Brian:

Thinking about Malai Kofta Kashmiri again ...
  10:47am
Cecile:

Their babies are so adorable. Just little balls of silver fluff. I like birds, but I'm so not a bird person, although they like me. I've had some grouchy old cocktoos sit on my shoulder when I was doing research for a piece on a bird rescue.
  10:51am
Parq:

We had the cutest parakeet in the world, but he died about five years ago. We still have our cockatiel, who perks up happily during Trouble's mike breaks.
  10:55am
Cecile:

Nice, Parq!
  11:00am
BSI:

oh jeez, so I come back from a break and see the topic has turned to curry. And me without having brought my lunch today. hm.
  11:02am
NS Andy:

Yes, Trouble. I am here in Nova Scotia, on St. Margarets Bay. Unfortunately, our snow is rapidly disappearing. But yes, snow on the beach is an amazing thing. Those birds sound a bit like Old Squaw ducks that winter on the bay here.
  11:02am
north guinea hills:

fyi, i used to teach weather & climate at Hunter College once upon a time. (now i'm just a geographer)
  11:03am
dale:

i think the running of the wooly catepillars in the fall is a good indication of a hard winter
  11:03am
annie:

pocono record had five different weather prognostications from various sources, for the same storm, and all of them were different.
  11:03am
Cecile:

Trouble, you are a good homeowner. There are so many people who are not as diligent as you, and I curse them as I slide around on the sidewalk.
  11:05am
Cecile:

I even think cooking is a kind of revolutionary act these days.

And I rarely make statements like that.
  11:06am
zazani:

yea i saw a review or that book . iwas wondering if it was a good read. what is the name again or author? thanks for warmin us up!

  11:14am
Garden Hose:

Don't even bother trying to eat me. Boil, Bake, broast - don't matter, I am still a rubber hose with a metal thread at each end.
  11:14am
Drunk right now:

I love Epic Soundtracks.
  11:15am
trouble:

yes cecile i agree cooking is a revolutionary act nowadays. how did that happen? crazy! the name of the great book that i am reading is 'shop class as soulcraft' by matthew b. crawford.
  11:18am
Cecile:

I like that getting back to working with your hands is becoming more popular and necessary. However, there is always the risk of romanticizing it too much. Sometimes a dude who's good with a hammer is just a dude who's good with a hammer...
  11:20am
Cecile:

I think cooking got made to seem difficult and exotic and then there were so many easy alternatives that you didn't need to do it.

But good old home cooking is good therapy for the brain, the heart and the budget.
  11:21am
Carmichael:

Hiya Trouble and all other people of popularity. My God, am I busy.
  11:21am
Microwave:

93% of people us me to cook dinner everynight!
  11:21am
seang:

anybody goin to see T-Model Ford in somerville, ma tonight--he's a bad man
  11:22am
Chris:

Is home cooking anything like home schooling?
  11:23am
Parq:

Old "BC" gag, from his pre-Jesus period: we see wooly worms every year, but it's going to be a real bad winter when they're wearing ski masks.
  11:25am
Hotel Desk Bell:

Give me a good slap to bring attention to the staff that you need assistance! I make quite the sound!
  11:26am
dale:

why did the worms cross the road? seriously, that's where i see them in october - i swerve to avoid them.
  11:27am
Cecile:

they both have "home" in them. And depending what lunch was for the kids, also lots of potatoes.
  11:31am
Chris:

Coincidentally The Clientele are performing on The View today.
  11:32am
otak:

Ni school ni supermarket teach you how to be a human
  11:36am
dale:

re: soulcraft: we need a new deal today that supports crafts and tradesmen - NOT traders and bank execs.
  11:38am
Chris:

apparently barbara walters is a HUGE fan.
  11:42am
Jeff from St.Paul:

Is the Playlist accurate? I am positive I heard Big Star not too long ago and its not on the playlist.
  11:44am
BSI:

Chris: what's more, she OSCILLATES!
  11:44am
trouble:

the big star you heard was epic soundtracks covering night time...
  11:46am
dale:

was that a ricky nelson tune?
  11:49am
Jeff from St. Paul:

Anyone heard the new Joanna Newsom? 3LP
  11:50am
Scrooge McDuck:

"Ducktails, woo ooo,... something something, so exciting..."
  11:52am
dale:

this reminds me of old richard pinhas
  11:58am
Parq:

@ Jeff: the playlist is *philosophically* accurate.
