Favoriting Bryce: Playlist from June 19, 2009 Favoriting

I never miscue a record. I am punctual, well-prepared, and dislike clutter. Outgoing and helpful, I'm always appropriately dressed. I do not behave erratically and have excellent penmanship. My CD's never skip, and I am in good health. I like all the notes, in any order.

perrin:

what year is Pharoah''s Seven by Seven recoreded?
  12:31pm

perrin!! it was a super early one, before he really started skronking — recorded in '64!
  12:32pm
Marshall Stacks:

FYI: Ali Akbar Khan died. It's major news in the Pakistani dailies today, but despite the fact that he lived (and died) in San Rafael, there's nothing in the Bay Area papers.
  12:35pm
perrin:

Sad. My favorite record was "Duet" between Khan and violinist L. Subramaniam, which was recorded in berkeley, I think.
  12:36pm
Parq:

Bon voyage to Ustad AAK. He was on the Concert for Bangladesh, which was one of Ravi Shankar's two most famous US performances (the other being the one captured in "Monterey Pop"). Marshall, maybe the San Fran papers haven't gotten it out yet.
  12:37pm
bryce:

wow. oh man, first i've heard....

  12:39pm
Jed:

for those of you on Doug's list this morning, I found out what the coincidence thing meant: my friend and office mate was laid off this morning--the bullshit is flying. Apparently, Get Along Little Dogies means "so long hard worker, we're re-organizing today!"
  12:43pm
Parq:

Whoa, pat. Blows. This economy involves watching people fall to the left and right of you and wondering when, if ever, your number's up. Disconcerting to say the least.
  12:43pm
Louisville Dan:

Holy Carp! This Marion Brown cut is fantastic!

  12:51pm

problem is, they're saying he wasn't laid off because of budget constraints!! He's being replaced by another fekkin manager!
  12:54pm
The Man:

Another manager? What's not to like?
  12:54pm
dc pat:

doesn't make any sense at all but I could use a tune by Edward Tudor Pole.

perrin:

(wow, from espdisk.com) When MIJ, aka Jim Holmberg was found by ESP, yodeling by the fountain in Washington Square Park, on a hot, summer Sunday afternoon, he explained that an auto accident had fractured his skull and impaired his hearing. But it had also altered his perceptions and enabled him to do things that he did not understand, but which worked musically. The next day ESP sent him into the studio. With Onno Scholtze's help, Mij explored the possibilities of multiple reverb to provide a series of echoes for his yodeling. When the project was completed, both participants continued to reverberate. They may be reverberating still.
