This drummer is the wonderful Warren Smith. He's one of the true unsung heroes of music. Been on thousands of vital records but few have heard of him. (His brother was in a cooperative art gallery with my Moms in D.C. for a while. May still be, in fact.) Smith was in Max Roach's M'Boom, which is like reaching the highest order of percussive beinghood. Roy Burns, wow that name is a blast from my past. As a little tyke with sticks and a drum pad, I usta practice to instruction books by Roy Burns!

and i bring up roy burns because i have this record called "drum set artistry" featuring roy burns and a big band. and it's phenomenal and reminded me a little of what warren smith had going on just there. and it's also reminiscent of this here gerry hemingway.. but it's, obviously, a bigger boom.

Happy B-Day. Mine is next Thurdsay. Nice to see you just made it into the Gemini brotherhood. I know Oberlin well. WOBC was the scene of my first radio experience (not to mention a few classes and exams and such).
