Listener comments!

  5/21 11:40am
Billy Jam:

Welcome to the fourth last "Put The Needle On The Record" show of the season when the guests will be Young Nittlz - a young rapper from the Bay Area who I did a special feature on in the Bay Guardian a couple of years ago when he was trying out in Oakalnd for the traveling Showtime At The Apollo TV show auditions. Also in the house today will be DJ Kid Ginseng who is a great electro and scratch DJ and also the DJ for the Tom Tom Club. And over visiting from Scotland - Edinburgh to be precise - are the two spoken word/hip-hop emcee artists Texture and Harlequinade. This show is dedicated to diehard listener and good friend Tall Paul Lowe back in Dublin Ireland. Not only is Paul a hella generous supporter of WFMU during its annual Marathons but he is also highly instrumental in making this show tick. An avid, dedicated hip-hop (and other) music fan for years Paul is just incredible when it comes to finding new music - mostly Irish hip-hop but other stuff too - and sending it over to me to play on WFMU and get it in the library here at the station. It is thanks to Paul we have artists like Ri Ra and Jinx Lennon and countless others. THANK YOU Tall Paul Lowe!.>>....Next week in this time slot will be an audio feed from the Primavera festival in Spain. In two weeks, June 5th, this show will return live from Belfast with tons of Northern Ireland hip-hop talents. The following week, June 12th, will be the 3rd annual graffiti special (Miami vs NY) with photo-journalists Jim and Karla Murray, NY/NJ area artist DEMER, and coming all the way from Miami for the WFMU special will be JUNK and REKAL of the FDC crew, and then the next and final week - June 19th -will be a blowout live Put The Needle on The Record live session special with DJ ALF, Scott Williams, Bryce, Bill Bowen, others TBA and your moms serving spinach and bacon quiche. - THANKS TO U for listening. Also shout to Kimzilla - aka Brinkzilla

Funny How?:

A businessman agreed to spend the afternoon with a beautiful woman for $500. After
they did, he told her that he did not have any cash, but he would have his secretary
write a check and mail it to her, calling the payment "RENT FOR APARTMENT."

On the way to the office he regretted what he had done, feeling that she hadn't been
worth the price. So he had his secretary send a check for $250 and enclosed the
following note:

"Dear Madam:
Enclosed find check in the amount of $250 for rent of your apartment. I am not
sending the amount agreed upon, because when I rented the place, I was under the
impression that:

#1 - it had never been occupied;
#2 - there was plenty of heat, and
#3 - it was small enough to make me feel cozy and at home.

However, I found out that it had been previously occupied, that there wasn't any
heat, and that it was entirely too large."

Upon receipt of the note, the girl immediately returned the check for $250 with the
following note:

"Dear Sir:
First of all, I cannot understand how you could expect a beautiful apartment to
remain unoccupied indefinitely. As for the heat, there is plenty of it, if you know
how to turn it on. Regarding the space, the apartment is indeed of regular size, but
if you don't have enough furniture to fill it, please do not blame the management.

Please send the rent in full or we will be forced to contact your present landlady."

Billy Jam Fan:

For those of you who are fans of this show you may want to check out KZSU on Sunday nights (12 to 3am - local Bay Area time) when KZSU DJ Japanic (also a DJ on KFJC) plays the weekly 15 minute edited feeature "Billy Jam's Army." Every week for the past several weeks Japanic, during his popular weekly "Frequency Jam" show, plays highlights of past "Put The Needle On The Record" shows from the WFMU archives. This weekend he will replay an edited down & remixed version of the 2008 WFMU Graffiti Special - the one that focused on Women In Graffiti. Tune in.

Did you used to have a regular thing at Kate O'Brien's, once upon a decade and a half ago or so?

Billy Jam:
What ever happened to Rare, anyway?
I saw him on BART one day, circa ~96ish? all clean and well kempt and coming home from work or something Still totally Rare. Someone got him going a lbit when we exited at Berkeley. And it was good.

Jessica:

except not really: gots some protecting and serving 'bout to happen, til ya don't stopThat said: big f'ing ups BPD.

Those who missed the Phenomenon that Was RARE: Incredibly fit, incredibly troubled, Andrew WK but for reals yo, and presumedly Vietnam Vet. Would talk about basketball, several years into his mythical beastlike presence on Telegraph Ave, but mostly just expressed himself via such fluent sonorous expulsion of that 1.5syllabic phoneme "Raaaaare" and then for a few years things that rhymed with Rare [Care Share There Where Bear Fair Stare].
Get him and the Hate Man and the Naked Guy, RIP, in a room together and get ready for some cataclysmic thing what might summon the polkadot man.

Never before in the history of mankind has it been easier to reach out to people all over the world. Online communitieslike MySpace, make meeting new friends with similar interests incredibly easy. MySpace is a great place to share tips, ideas and stories about the things you find most interesting. If you have a question about your hobby, you can easily find the answer through your network of members with similar interests.

Black Pope #1:

Thanks for the info, James. ... Billy: I never get to listen live anymore because of $work, but I am hooked on WFMU's archives in a way that I never believed I could be. I always miss out on the comment board fun because it's usually several days later when I get to listen. Today I had to work a rare Saturday, all alone in the office all day, and I barely noticed because I was blasting your shows all day. Your music & guests have been top notch lately. I'm loving the marathon cd in my car too. Thanks for all that you do!
