Elizabeth Cotton	Wilson Rag "Wilson Rag" by "Elizabeth Cotton"	On the record and inner label, it says "Negro Folk Songs and Tunes" but Folkways dropped the Negro on the album jacket. Times changed from when this was recorded in 1958!
Dry Branch Fire Squad	Echo Mountain	A sad story-- "the cries on Echo Mountain still haunt me to this day"
Clancy Brothers & Tommy Makem	Johnny I Hardly Knew You	"You haven't an arm, you haven't a leg, you're an armless, boneless, chickenless egg. You'll have to put out a bowl to beg. Johnny I hardly knew ye." "When Johnny Comes Marching Home"-- one of the best known American patriotic songs-- was written in the 1860s and sung during the Civil War. Some say that the tune is based on this Irish anti-war ballad.

Joel Plaskett	Light of the Moon "Light of the Moon" by "Joel Plaskett"	This guy has a rock & roll soul. The tune starts off in an odd way, scratchy vocals and all, but he turns it into a great song. He's from Nova Scotia and I'm surprised we haven't heard more from him
Evan Johns & the H-Bombs	Under the Willows in Dixie	This rowdy Austin guitar slinger is one of the Big Guitarists. A backhanded compliment: I'm impressed that he wrote this song!
Neko Case	People Got A Lotta Nerve	She's hot these days. Congrats!
Anita Carter	I Won't Change for You	Omni put out a collection of 28 tunes, drom the 60s & 70s plus a bunch of cool duets. The album is called "Songbird"
Carter Family	Come Back Home "Come Back Home" by "Carter Family"	This is Anita, June and Mother Maybelle-- not the earlier generation. A little sacharine.
Chris Gaffney	Loser's Paradise "Loser's Paradise" by "Chris Gaffney"	Title cut from 1995 Hightone solo album. Chris is more often found playing guitar for Dave Alvin or in the Hacienda Brothers. Thanks to Ken Levy for lying this CD on me.
Bonnie Prince Billy	You Can't Hurt Me Now	aka Will Oldham, prolific songwriter who has great musicians joining him, wherever he goes. This new CD-- "Beware"-- is on Drag City
Flatlanders	Midnight Train "Midnight Train" by "Flatlanders"	Joe Ely sings lead on this one. These Texans will be in NYC at BB KIngs on April 9.
Butch Hancock	Personal Rendition of the Blues	This Flatlander writes amazing songs. This one is from a 1979 album that Butch & Lloyd Maines produced-- "The Wind's Dominion"-- when they were still in Lubbock. It's now on CD.
M Shanghai String Band	Cookie Jar	Fine local band with snazzy new album-- "The Mapmaker's Daughter". They'll be on Irene's show on April 6, then go to CD release party Tuesday, April 7, at Joe's Pub
