Favoriting Bryce: Playlist from October 17, 2008 Favoriting

I never miscue a record. I am punctual, well-prepared, and dislike clutter. Outgoing and helpful, I'm always appropriately dressed. I do not behave erratically and have excellent penmanship. My CD's never skip, and I am in good health. I like all the notes, in any order.

First comment! Woo hoo!

Tom (The Bactrian Support Network):

NICE start Bryce . good show as always man.

jk:

Hey Bryce-
I loved the Albanian 78s you played last week, but couldn't find track info on them. Frustrating. Until this past weekend when by chance I found a double lp at the goodwill called "stricktly Albanian" that had them all. Hooray! thought I'd share.

Parq:

Been hoping for an extended Rădulescu feature; I've read about him, but haven't been familiar with his work.
  12:31pm
bryce:

and it was right next to the 16 vol. set of Albania Mania 8-tracks!
  12:34pm
annie:

wow, the music is bouncing off the walls; and all that from two simple computer speakers.. can't wait til i hook em up to the real speakers!!
  12:38pm
bryce:

parq— yeah, been meaning to, since he passed a couple weeks ago. he was really great....

annie— can you imagine being in the room? it's something like 70 flutes.
  12:38pm
jk:

the albania mania set was pretty picked through, but the Grecian Yearning 45s were intact.
  12:39pm
annie:

word up, bryce; it is eerie... way cool
  12:41pm
bill:

according to wikipedia, it's 40 flautists w/ 72 flutes - which presents an interesting mental picture
  12:44pm
Parq:

Bill's got a point -- like Rahsaan on a cosmic scale.
  1:02pm
north guinea hills:

more radulescu please!
  1:03pm
max:

i like it when he feels like yelling things
  1:04pm
bryce:

did somebody say radulescu?
  1:04pm
annie:

thanks for the music, back to garden work.. gonna put the speakers out the window..
  1:06pm
bryce:

nice!

and plants love radulescu.
  1:12pm
bartelby:

You wouldn't believe the difficulty in getting bus directions to Engelwood, otherwise I would have tuned in earlier--sounds good
  1:25pm
bryce:

ohhh yes i would.

unless you happen to get NJT rep. #99 on the horn. used to swing by e. orange to volunteer, 10 or 15 years ago. i think sergey brin installed ethernet ports on her head.

"ask for me! 99!"
  1:33pm
Richard:

Yeah Horaţiu! He's fantastic!
  1:33pm
Cecile:

is this prepared piano? Pretty cool...
  1:34pm
Richard:

I just tuned in, please say his name on air so I can finally know how to pronounce it ;)
  1:38pm
bill:

it's a "sound icon" - a piano turned on its side and played by a standing person doing stuff directly to the strings - maybe Rădulescu invented the sound icon? dunno
  1:38pm
bryce:

hey, cecile!
yup... it's 16 grand pianos turned on their sides. radulescu called 'em "sound icons"

richard,
fucked if i know! i'm gonna figure that shit out right now. i've got 21 minutes.
  1:39pm
bryce:

i can't tell where bill ends and i begin
  1:40pm
Cecile:

thanks, folks!
  1:41pm
Richard:

Haha, best of luck mate!

And yeah, that's a real interesting piano technique
  1:43pm
bill:

sorry bryce, i'm kind of a geek on this stuff - but 16 pianos ... yu can see why it's not played live too often
  1:58pm
Richard:

Great job. I'm impressed with your tongue to say the least.

Bummer to hear he passed away though.
  2:13pm
bird:

braaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaiiiinnn
  2:30pm
Richard:

By far the best part of this recording is I'm having a difficult time discerning which sounds are made by the vocalist, and which sounds are made by the guy running the weed whacker outside my building.
  2:34pm
silence:

sounds like you're having a John Cage moment
  2:34pm
bryce:

he's probably listening on headphones.
  2:39pm
Parq:

That kind of experience has long been a part of my FMU listening. If I had $5 for every time I've had to turn off the radio to be sure, I could make a marathon pledge that would set some sort of record.
  2:45pm
Kăenzoscu:

If WFMU had $5 for every time you turned off the radio, we'd all be listening to Horaţiu Rădulescu.
  2:58pm
bryce:

if i had $5 for every piano Radulescu weed whacked, i could get my monobrow threaded and buy an ice cream.
  3:01pm
Parq:

Dang, 3:00 already? Great show. Bring it on, Bill.
