Listener comments!

  11:04pm
jeff M:

nice, the Mission UK used to cover this. Never knew the original :)
  11:05pm
Sybil:

Good evening!

An evening that starts with dancing barefoot is always a good evening!
  11:06pm
john:

unless someone spilled spaghetti sauce or something on the floor.
  11:07pm
Sybil:

Spaghetti sauce makes it more fun!

Speaking of which, Julian Tavarez has found anew home... with Boston's other team.

The Braves are still in Boston, right?
  11:08pm
Joe:

Percee's on Stones Throw now?

Those boys got one hell of a roster
  11:10pm
john:

Sybil, Yes, I believe they are. Got two against Brooklyn tomorrow. Go Bums!
  11:10pm
efd:

hi everybody!

give me a few minutes to get caught up with the playlist over here...

oh, and get ready to wish Toni Daytona a happy birthday.
  11:16pm
Droll:

hAPPY bIRTHDAY TD!!!!!!! I hope "U" get "ur" request,,,,,,finally!
  11:17pm
Sybil:

C'est toujours a cause des garcons.

Wait... is Toni Daytona male or female? Both? Neither?
  11:18pm
efd:

Sybil, *that* is the million-dollar question!

good news about yo-yo!
  11:18pm
toni daytona:

thank you evan & droll=)=)=)=) lots of love
  11:19pm
Jessica:

Nice mix, there, EFD.

And Happy Bday ToniD!!!1!!eleven! Whatever gender|s!!! =D
  11:21pm
Sybil:

Droll has nearly captured that elusive je ne sais quoi.

But - ain't nothin like the real thing baby! Happy Birthday T/D!
  11:23pm
toni d.:

sybil,,jess i asure you i'm a WOMAN hear me roar!!!!!!!!!
  11:24pm
efd:

raow!!
  11:24pm
E.L.:

Happy Birthday,,,,,,,,Toni! I always look forward to your EFD comments,,,, that's when the party really starts!!!! Cheers!!!
  11:27pm
Sybil:

mockinpott!!!!!!!!

nene records*... what more does one need?

* and the occasional (but not TOO occasional) Manny HR
  11:28pm
efd:

i think Manny's coming out of his slump, yes? Two key RBIs in two days!

And with the Yankees playing the Rays it almost doesn't matter who wins.

Almost.
  11:29pm
Joe:

Hey... it matters to _some_ people.
  11:29pm
toni d.:

thank you everyone. evan if you could please play "GOLDDUST WOMAN" by fleetwood mac thank very much efd=)=)=)
  11:32pm
HotRod:

I second the Gold Dust Woman request!
  11:34pm
Laurie:

It's pronounced Yeah-elle. Sort of. More like Yehl, I think. It's an acronym, not a "real" French name.
  11:35pm
Droll:

GD Woman for TD Woman! (Besides, Lindsey Buckingham rules and I want to set a precedent for B-day requests!)
  11:35pm
Sybil:

Acronym for what, Laurie?
  11:35pm
HotRod:

It's pronounced "yell". All she did was combine the words "yeah" and "elle".
  11:38pm
Laurie:

It's actually an acronym for "You Enjoy Life."
  11:40pm
Sybil:

Wooden shjips?! Give unto me a break! (> 1/4 Skansk, so I'm entitled to complain.)

Laurie, I like that explanation so much I don't care if it's right.
  11:41pm
efd:

jeez, talk about a pregnant pause!

Toni, will this do as a birthday request? I don't think gold dust woman will fly. (sorry, HotRod!)
  11:42pm
john:

why is it i've always really liked those guys but they weird me out at the same time? Is it the silent j?
  11:42pm
Sybil:

NO YOU DI'NT!!!!

BBBBBBut you did!

actually, this confirms my opinion that this show RULZ!
  11:42pm
HotRod:

That is correct, Laurie...according to wiki.

I should've written that it's a "portmanteau" of "yeah" and "elle".

Ah, oui oui. C'est bon!
  11:43pm
Joe:

I've always thought Wooden Shjips should have a song called "Crosby, Stills, and Njash"
  11:43pm
efd:

the silent j is annoyjing, i agree.
  11:43pm
Jessica:

I heard it was "Kiss My F--king Di-ck, Man"
No, wait, that's someone else.

[Yay, Hot Chocolate!]
  11:44pm
Sybil:

[Yay, Hot Chocolate!]

Well, yes!
  11:45pm
E.L.:

I heard this a few weeks back on Joe McGasko's show and I wrote to him saying it always reminds me of the movie Detroit Rock City and the amazing performance by "Dickie" the bartender. It still does!
  11:45pm
toni daytona:

yes evan,,thank you for thinkin of me your verry sweet,,love ya=)=)=)
  11:45pm
HotRod:

Oh man! EFD's not a fan of Gold Dust Woman? I think I'm offended. Let me check....ummm...yes, I am very offended.

**wipes away tears**
  11:46pm
C:

Happy birthday. You missed a great chance this morning with Hatch. He was asking for birthday requests.
  11:47pm
Amanda:

HotRod, did he make you cry? Make you break down? Shatter your illusions of love?

I'm with you on that, by the way!
  11:48pm
efd:

it's Stevie Nicks that's the problem, frankly. I do like some non-SN Fleetwood Mac songs, for whatever that's worth.
  11:48pm
HotRod:

How young are you today, Toni D?
  11:49pm
john:

Tusk!
  11:49pm
Jessica:

Aw, c'mon. Sure, it's a school night, but just this once an exception could be made for bday Gold Dust Woman. ?!?!?!?

Laurie: we can has lioncubs update?
  11:49pm
HotRod:

If Stevie's the problem, then how about Hole's cover version on The Crow: City of Angels soundtrack?
  11:49pm
efd:

(first time an FMU DJ has had to defend his *dislike* of Fleetwood Mac??)
  11:50pm
Sybil:

I often wonder if the people who are listening, but not privvy to the comments, have any idea what's going on.

OMFG Hatch. I was the one who made EFD's class creds. Evan, the film was a-frickin-mazing. This is not the place (or time) for a review, but can we work something out?
  11:50pm
HotRod:

It's all going to hell.
  11:50pm
Joe:

Fleetwood Mac the British blues band is excellent. Fleetwood Mac the California Pop band, not so much.

But c'mon, it's the lady's birthday, Ev.
  11:51pm
toni d.:

hotrod--i'll be 27 on saturday,,i'm goin to wildwod WHOOOOOHOOOOOOO!!!!!!
  11:52pm
Droll:

TD, sorry I jinxed your B-day request,,,,,,, I owe you summin'. I say double down on requests!
  11:52pm
HotRod:

Are you going to also tell us that you hate puppies, cotton candy and rainbows too??? For the love of Stevie!
  11:53pm
john:

Now, for me, it's California pop, si! British blues, no!

One man's opinion.
  11:53pm
Jessica:

Sybil: seriously. I expected to hear half the country chortling at John's comment [Tusk!], but the streets, they are quiet.

efd: I share your antipathy. I go so far as to shout at the screen whenever a "scarf over the lampshade" prop appears. Which happens in Buffy vs. Dracula, thus ruining the otherwise totally effing stellar episode.
  11:55pm
efd:

if there was a Trailmix version of Gold Dust Woman, a la You Make Lovin' Fun, I'd be all over it.
  11:57pm
C:

Maybe you could play some clips from Family Guy instead?
  11:59pm
toni daytona:

efd--hotrod & everyone this is my final comment of 2nite. thank you all for everything,,i love you evan & hotrod g'nite=)=)=)
  11:59pm
HotRod:

Is that you, Amanda??? WHFR???

I'll try to break up the pieces and go home.
  12:00am
paul madvig:

do you have any SPY SOUNDTRACKS
  12:00am
Sybil:

efd;

Stevie Nicks wrote one single song that made me rethink my hatred of her: that would be "Landslide".

I think Dixie Chicks did a much better version.

And I'm too tired to argue this further. Every 1's a winner baby.
  12:02am
over by here:

where's the swag already? i didn't give dough to get swag, but i have a few choice items coming (i won the "Sound Art" book/cd) and i'd sure like 'em woooo!
  12:03am
Joe:

I move the discussion is over because it is literally impossible to argue with anyone whilst listening to Steinski
  12:04am
over by dare:

dis don't sound like no pollack....
  12:05am
Sybil:

Eric Burdon... anyone who plays... has my undying love...
  12:05am
Amanda:

Yes! It's me! I'm glad I got to hang out tonight, I'm going out of town next week for two weeks.

Sybil -- It was the somg "Storms" that made me totally rethink my position on Stevie Nicks, and I did a total 180. Weird.

Agreed about Steinski, for sure. Let's hug it out.
  12:08am
Sybil:

Joe, darn his Yankees-loving heart. had made me rethink everything.

More later.
  12:09am
HotRod:

Haha, I meant pick up, NOT break up.

Amanda, will you be hanging in the Heights on 7/23?
  12:11am
Joe:

Sybil, I have to ask... Are you down with Black Man's Burdon?
  12:12am
HotRod:

Oh wait, will you be back by 7/30? 8/6?
  12:12am
john:

I brake for Steinski.

And I loved Storms too.
  12:12am
Sybil:

Well yeah, ... and OPP. ;-)
  12:13am
Amanda:

Will be there tomorrow, but then won't be back in NY until the 27th. If you're there you can pour one out on the patio for me.

7/30 and 8/6 are go!
  12:13am
Joe:

Yeah, I know you.
  12:13am
efd:

man, i cannot keep up with you all tonight!

plus there are ants in the studio, yuck.
  12:14am
efd:

did i miss a Norwegian Lion update?
  12:14am
Sybil:

I brake for Steinski

Who doesn't?
  12:14am
toni d.:

one more thing,,evan & hotrod thank you very much for your support & for thinkin 'bout me HAPPY B-DAY 2 ME
  12:15am
HotRod:

I'll probably see you on 8/6 then, since Matt won't be there on 7/30.

Have fun getting away!
  12:15am
seriously:

what's up with the swag?
  12:16am
john:

Forgive my pedantry, but I'm unaccountably bothered by a band that has half its name in Greek and half in Latin.
  12:18am
Joe:

I believe in the left handed?
  12:18am
HotRod:

I heard that more swag has been going out recently. There were some hard-working volunteers at the station yesterday...maybe today as well.
  12:20am
Amanda:

Yay! I'll see you/Matt in August!

I have it from a good source that a bunch of swag shipped this week, but I don't want to specify in case that's wrong or partially right. I'm just psyched to wear my hoodie on my vacation down South.

Yay also for Spiritualized. A belated yay.
  12:21am
john:

Left-handed glory, perhaps. Could refer to David Ortiz.
  12:25am
Droll:

Last year I didn't get my 7sec Delay swag until December, just in time for tax purposes. Well worth the wait, though. It was a murder mystery TV spoof w/lots of FMU "Air Personalities". Recognizably FMU, even though TV instead of FM.
  12:28am
Joe:

Speaking of 7sd, have you checked your voicemail recently, Evan?
  12:29am
efd:

omg i forgot all about that!! thanks for the reminder, Joe!
  12:30am
Joe:

For the record, I knew that Fake Evan was fake within like... 20 seconds.
  12:31am
efd:

oh, i didn't even hear the actual show! I just got that message.... clearly i need to check out the archive.
  12:34am
HotRod:

This Frustration track is great!
  12:34am
Joe:

Yes, apparently there's an Evan "Impostor" Davies running around, somewhere. You should probably let your significant other know.
  12:35am
dustin:

love me some xray spexs
  12:36am
efd:

now if only i could figure out how to play that message on the air!

HotRod, the whole Frustration CD is pretty good!
  12:40am
Joe:

A friend of mine turned a bunch of hilarious voicemails into mp3... he's a crazy audio guy though, not sure what program he used.
  12:43am
Amanda:

I guess you could use speakerphone, but it would sound terrible... I'm very intrigued by this whole 7SD conspiracy about which I know nothing. Guess I should head to the archives myself.
  12:45am
a winner:

evan i sent you mail,,oxox
  12:46am
Joe:

Okay, here's the scoop

"The easiest way to do this is get a cable that is male stereo jack on both ends, Plug one into your phone (it should have a headphone jack) and the other into your PC. Then use a program such as audacity to record it"
  12:50am
efd:

thanks, Joe. I am hoping that since I am at an actual radio station I can take advantage of the technology at hand to play it over the air. We'll see.
  12:51am
Jessica:

Hey! The Bears' singer sounds like he's E "Impostering" Davies.
  12:53am
Droll:

The Bears is The Psychodots with Adrian Belew -- who are these Bears?
  12:53am
efd:

yeah, these are different Bears - i'll check the cd booklet in a minute
  1:17am
Joe:

I... have definitely fallen off on my Deutsch hip-hop. Wow. Spectacular.
  1:19am
Jessica:

The delivery = pouty-tacular.
  1:20am
efd:

well, that wasn't ideal but you got the idea...
  1:21am
Droll:

The EFD Show: Starting with a 7SD phone message, then the 70's, every week from now on.
I swear I wasn't listening.
  1:22am
Amanda:

You mean that wasn't a remix?
  1:22am
Joe:

Aahahaha.... classic.

FYI: the point of the show was Andy trying to call DJs who had, in his estimation, bad timeslots, so they could complain about them to Ken, on-air.
  1:24am
Joe:

Of course, we all know that this is the best timeslot ever.
  1:26am
efd:

this song has another 5 minutes to go. All in favor of cutting it short, say "aye"
  1:28am
Droll:

Joe, am I to assume he and Ken get the "Best" time slot? (I wonder how that happened) We know this is not "The Best Show" on FMU, so Andy may have some point.
[GONG] I think I get the gist of The Fall already.
  1:29am
Jessica:

And yet here no one was, needing that there contextual hint. Oh, the jocularity!

I actually did listen pretty regularly to the 7SD, until I called in with a streetfight story one day, having just read about my streetfight story in someone else's not-actually-fiction short story collection, but which story's delivery was judged "too polished" so probably made up.
I guess I'm still scarred.

[aye]
  1:29am
Joe:

Aye, aye.

I don't think it's the "best" time slot... I think Andy is just a jerk. Bob Brainien was the only DJ who picked up, and he actually hung up, midsentence. It's funny if you like "cringe" radio.
  1:30am
efd:

well now it's kind of getting interesting again...
  1:30am
efd:

the song, I mean.
  1:32am
Joe:

great song, great title, great band name
  1:48am
Jessica:

Anthem to a misspent 1985. Aw, yeah.
  1:49am
Joe:

I was just gonna say... The Red Rocker, himself.
  1:50am
Droll:

Oh crap -- I thought you were about to play Motley Crue, not Montrose. I think my heart stopped for 4 measures until the band came in.
  1:50am
efd:

he can't drive 55 on a motorcycle either, apparently.
  1:51am
efd:

i'm pretty sure there's also a Saxon song that has that guitar-o-cycle sound.
  1:54am
Joe:

Avowed fan of Larry Norman: Black Francis. True story.
  1:55am
john:

Larry Norman rawked. Srsly.
  1:57am
efd:

Joe is correct - there is a sticker with a Frank Black quote on the front of the CD.
  1:59am
Joe:

What does it say?!
  2:06am
efd:

it says:
"He was a lone wolf. He looked different, sounded different and he presented his beliefs in a way that rang true. Larry Norman knows what he's doing, and if you haven't noticed, you should."
