12:09pm
gerardo:

 12:13pm
Sean Daily:

Where can I get this Eric Chenaux track, Liz!
 12:14pm
Liz B.:

Hi everyone, had a full night's worth of sleep on this Monday, lovely! Sean, try cstrecords.com for Eric Chenaux.
 12:14pm
Sara:

Eric Chenaux? Toronto boy! Formerly of the most excellent Phleg Camp... nice to hear him round these parts, thanks Liz.
 12:14pm
sebastian in santiago:

hey liz. i see the south remains faithful. qué tal gerardo, my brother in alienation.
 12:19pm
north guinea hills:

must....get.... the.... electronic music from high schools disc! i checked out a computer music magazine from 1969 from a florida library back in 1998, and it had a flexidisc of junior high students making electronic music.... super rad!!! (i shamelessly lifted it)
 12:19pm
gerardo:

seba, compadre, qui wiiina, "va-mos chile, caramba..." - how could we possibly feel alienated, ;)?

so you slept all nite long, liz? - what a joy, what a pleasure. i admit i love sleeping, specially with this freezing cold winter we're experiencing here
 12:22pm
paw:

yaah! what is that electronic music from high schools?! very very good stuff. thanks as always liz.
 12:25pm
HotRod:

ooh...I like Liz on at noon!
 12:26pm
Sean Daily:

This set is kicking of the very much ass, Liz. Yet another reason for me to quit my job so I can just sit in front the computer and vedge.
 12:27pm
paw:

sean... that's why you need to get a job that involves sitting in front of a computer :)
 12:28pm
north guinea hills:

sean, that's what i do at my job anyways. as long as i can drag my corpse in to my office, i get paid.
 12:28pm
HotRod:

Anyone going to see Venetian Snares tonight at the Knitting Factory NYC?
 12:29pm
jonathan:

dragging the corpse...i say and feel that every morn.
 12:31pm
north guinea hills:

ahshiiitt, i forgot about the venetian snares show. i really want to go, but i'm trying to be frugal so i can rent my own apt w/ my gf w/o any roommates by sept.... damnit!!!!
 12:32pm
efd:

I'm really enjoying this track by The Field... I feel like I should have a strobe light in my office.
 12:32pm
north guinea hills:

liz, kudos on the field... wtf??? your good night's sleep is paying off for us listeners (who didn't get much sleep)
 12:37pm
Martin from Stockholm, Sweden:

Hey Liz!

I'm so much looking forward to Cryptacize today!

Love your show!
 12:37pm
Ike:

My job requires that I repetitively crank the computer hard, at all times -- or else! With terrible pay! How do I get a job where I just have to show up and listen to FMU? My corpse is heavy today. Only FMU keeps me sane. Great set.
 12:39pm
north guinea hills:

i work for the federal gov't... it's sucks ass, but i get paid enough to live in nyc and i can listen to wfmu all day (i'm a cartographer)
 12:39pm
HotRod:

Damn, this Friel track is nice!
 12:42pm
jordan:

First time listener--I've enjoyed the show so far, particularly the last three tracks (and especially the Pas Chic Chic! song--what can I say, I like fuzz). I've got to go back to work--for some strange reason, I don't think my radio @ work in White Plains, NY picks up FMU, so I'll have to listen to the rest on archive later!

EDIT: I'll leave after Swell Maps. AWESOME PICK, LIZ
 12:48pm
north guinea hills:

swell maps, perfect band for my profession.... thanks liz!
 12:50pm
Laurie:

This is why Norwegians are the happiest people on earth: http://atvs.vg.no/player/?id=16995
 12:50pm
Parq:

NGH, you're with the feds? I'm with the state. Hang in there, gov work gets better with longevity.
 12:51pm
Ike:

I love maps. Maybe I should go back to school and become a cartographer. <sigh>
 12:54pm
swami:

County government in the house! I guess all we need are some townies!
 12:54pm
gerardo:

ahh, the sweet reminiscence of skipping vinyls
 12:55pm
north guinea hills:

Parq, i used to work for the city, it was more fun but the pay sucked....
if i left nyc, i could easily get a better paying job in the private sector, but then i would have to leave nyc...

and Ike, I love GIS and cartography, i actually love what i do, i just hate bullshit i have to put up w/ while working for a bureaucracy.
 12:56pm
Cecile:

I am also a guvmint employee, and what Parq says is usually true in regard to public sector. Outlive your oppressors. ;)
 12:58pm
north guinea hills:

thanks cecile & parq, it's always good to have ye ole morale boosted :)
 12:59pm
Swami:

I like my gubmint job. It helps that I get to go into the field for casework at my discretion. Doesn't get too stagnant, but I do hate to have to leave theses awesome tunes. . . hang in there; the little victories make it beaable. C ya later.
 12:59pm
swami:

and "bearable" too!
 1:00pm
Laurie:

Awwwwww, the Norwegian lioness is grooming her cubs and making them fall over. :)))))
 1:02pm
gerardo:

and now, cassettes. yeah!
 1:06pm
Cecile:

hey finn-core!
 1:07pm
Wendy del Formaggio:

Hi Liz!!!
I'm loving these last two tracks (Eppu Normaali and The Wuds). What language(s) are they singing in? I like when I don't understand the words, then I can just make up my own story.
 1:07pm
Parq:

Ah, we have a subculture of civil servants. No wonder we're always so civil.
 1:08pm
Martin:

found an interesting homepage: lizberg.com

Didn't know you had band Liz! :)
 1:08pm
blanketship:

hi liz greetings from cold and foggy SF!.bumm i missed electronic music from high schools.
 1:08pm
Wendy del Formaggio:

Ah, you just answered my questions on the air. perfect! thanks. Never heard Filipino punk before. Nice!
 1:09pm
Charlie:

What is the song playing in the background from?! I recognize it from a cartoon or video game or something, and I can't start doing the dishes until I remember.
 1:10pm
Cecile:

and servile. ;D

not really.
 1:10pm
Parq:

Skippy and Hissy would make good names for goldfish.
 1:15pm
SueB:

OMG -- the irony is seething!!
 1:15pm
Liz B.:

Background music is XOC's version of the Super Mario Bros. 3 theme.
 1:15pm
Laurie:

Is this lunch break going to include Lunchbox?
 1:17pm
Wendy del Formaggio:

oh goodness. this eddie money song is so terrible I have to stick around to see what else is moldering in the lunch box. :-D
 1:17pm
Cecile:

IGH. 20 years hasn't made it better.

Can we have Ronnie and Joey Ramone doing "you can't put your arms a memory?"
 1:18pm
Sean Daily:

Oh noes! It is the Assault of the Eddies!
 1:18pm
Cecile:

OK. now you have to play the Sharam (deep dish) version of this...
 1:19pm
dc pat:

AAAAhhh! CUT IT OUT!!
 1:19pm
Wendy del Formaggio:

I guess the FCC won't let you play "Boogie in Your Butt" This must be the consolation prize.
 1:19pm
gerardo:

"Skippy and Hissy ..." there's lot of that @ great ubuweb site

Eddie Money came to our local Festival de Vina del Mar in the late 80s or early 90s.... Nobody here knew who he was.

ah, the 80s - there's another nightmarish nostalgic wave around...
 1:20pm
jonathan:

good lord! eddie murphy, bruce willis and don johnson all had songs out at the same time. fuck 1985/86!
 1:20pm
JJZ:

Aw yeah, Party all the Time.
 1:21pm
Parq:

Dropkick Murphys next. Can we get from Eddie Money to, oh, say, the Runaways in six moves?
 1:21pm
Cecile:

Sharam's stupid, tasteless and somewhat funny remix of the original Party video. may be NSFW:

 1:21pm
Ghengis Jung:

Is Rick Astley coming up?
 1:22pm
Cecile:

I liked '85/86, but I prefer to think of the Wipers, Nick Cave and the first Dinosaur album more....
 1:22pm
Laurie:

We're getting Rick Rolled.

Odds we're going to Billy Ocean? Get out of my dream, Trouble.
 1:22pm
Dan:

A band on my friend's label had "The Eddie Money Boys' Choir" sing on one of their tunes. I don't know what that means exactly, but it's awesome.
 1:22pm
JJZ:

80s Eddies!
 1:22pm
Cecile:

Eddy Cleanhead Vincent

Eddie izzard
 1:22pm
Laurie:

Oooooh, I shoulda called it. It's an all Eddie/y Set, eh?
 1:23pm
Wendy del Formaggio:

OK, now we're getting somewhere. I was just thinking of this Elec Ave song the other day. I liked it then, I like it now.

Liz, this is an Eddie set, isn't it? What do I win?!
 1:23pm
Laurie:

I saw Eddie Izzard on Saturday!!
 1:23pm
gerardo:

so "the secret word for tonite" -as frank zappa used to say- is eddy
 1:24pm
Cecile:

Same here, Wendy. The lyrics are a lot darker than that happy, happy beat.
 1:24pm
Wendy del Formaggio:

I'm jealous, Laurie. I loves me some Eddie Izzard. Funny and sexy all in one package.
 1:25pm
Wendy del Formaggio:

Cecile: yeah, and in addition, Elec Ave just f'in ROCKS
 1:26pm
Scott Eeee:

I feel old
 1:26pm
dc pat:

I'm with Cecile, 85/86 was SST paradise.
 1:26pm
gerardo:

i prefer his other expression better: "conceptual continuity clue"

"funny and sexy..." that sounds good
 1:28pm
Charlie:

Ahhh, I thought it was Super Mario, but I thought it was the second one, not the third. My brain is getting old. Oh, and this song is the pinnacle of Eddie Murphy's career, I swear.
 1:28pm
Laurie:

Otto von Schirach, Miami's finest!
 1:28pm
Dan:

It's Super Mario World for SNES.
 1:29pm
Liz B.:

Thanks Dan, I get the Marios mixed up!
 1:30pm
Charlie:

Amebix, now this is some music to make BBQ chicken to!
 1:30pm
SueB:

my 11 yr old is now singing "Electric Avenue" quietly to himself in his room.
 1:30pm
Cecile:

Everything from that Amebix disc sounds great whenever I've heard it. Hunh. wonder why I missed them the firset time around.
 1:31pm
Wendy del Formaggio:

SueB: Hey, I used to do that when I was 11, too, which is about when that song came out. Cool!
 1:32pm
Wendy del Formaggio:

Amebix is also good music to write about cheese to!
 1:33pm
Cecile:

God, now I feel really old.

I'll have some cheese and some grilled chicken please.

Oh, man I saw Rachid Taha a few years back. Wild show...
 1:39pm
Charlie:

The only reason I'm even making chicken is to test this batch of Bourbon BBQ sauce I made. I did something different and I'm nervous.

Oh, and I want cheese real bad now.
 1:42pm
Laurie:

Wendy, are the caseophile lady?
 1:42pm
Wendy del Formaggio:

I want cheese, too! I only get to write about it today. The heat we've been having in NJ has given me a tummy-ache. No cheese + having to write about it = TORTURE! :-(
Good luck w/ your BBQ chicken ,Charlie. Sounds good!
 1:43pm
Wendy del Formaggio:

Laurie: Yup, that's me. :-)
 1:46pm
Laurie:

Everything tastes better with cheese. It's a scientifically proven fact.
 1:47pm
dc pat:

what's your favorite cheese right now Wendy?
 1:47pm
Charlie:

The only convenient thing about this heat is that I recently lost my job, so I can just sit around all day in my bathing suit, and sometimes just take a shower and sit around soaking wet. The worst though is that it's hot, and that I'm unemployed.
 1:48pm
Cecile:

to paraphrase Ben Franklin, cheese is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy.

But, Charlie, you have chicken!
 1:49pm
dc pat:

Cecile: That's BEER! I like cheese and all but don't mess w/ beer...
 1:50pm
Cecile:

that's why I was paraphrasing.

Cheese and beer are proof microorganisms can be our best friends.
 1:51pm
Charlie:

God bless Chicken. And beer. I want beer.
 1:51pm
Wendy del Formaggio:

DC Pat: I love so many cheeses, it's hard to name one favorite. Right now the goat cheeses are really nice. I brought home a lovely slab of Queso Clara the other day. It's a lovely goat cheese from Spain. I still have some for when my tummy feels better.
 1:52pm
peter:

turn this trash off
christ
 1:52pm
Bad Ronald:

Or deadly enimies!

I dig saga bleu!
 1:52pm
jonathan:

it's time for beer.
 1:53pm
Bad Ronald:

words of wisdom Jonathan.
 1:53pm
Wendy del Formaggio:

has anyone ever heard The Cheese Band's song "I Love Cheese"? It's a little kid with his Casio. Funny and awesome. I think you can find it on Otis Fodder's website.
 1:53pm
dc pat:

I got this brie type the other day called pierre robert I think--it was like eating butter.
 1:54pm
Cecile:

I like "The Cheese Song" from the Pinky and the Brain cartoon.
 1:56pm
peter:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnAgwb93iyU
that's a good one
 1:57pm
Wendy del Formaggio:

DC Pat: Pierre-Robert has the same type of rind as Brie, but P-R is a triple-creme, meaning it's got way more fat per dry matter. Yes, it does taste like butter, but cultured butter. A great cheese, but better when the weather is cold, in my opinion.
 1:58pm
dc pat:

Only on the FMU comment page can you learn so much about cheese!!
 2:01pm
dc pat:

Thanks Wendy. Maybe you should be a regular on the comments giving out cheese advice?
 2:02pm
Cecile:

thanks, peter for that!
"cheese is the taste that pleases, cheese from around the world!"
 2:06pm
Charlie:

I used to get great cheese when I was living up in Ithaca, NY after college, but since moving back to Jersey I'm not even sure what dairies are even worhth checking out. I feel like there's one up in Sussex county by my parents that is decent, but I can't even remember.
 2:06pm
Dan:

This is the best song.
 2:08pm
Cecile:

I remember seeing a Tony Bourdain travel show about New Jersey that had a piece on a nice little dairy that looked like it was amazing artisan cheese.
 2:10pm
molerat:

James McIntyre, The Chaucer of Cheese: Canada's Worst Poet.
http://www.swiftandbored.com/mcintyre/
"Fair Canada is our Theme,
Land of rich cheese, milk and cream."
 2:11pm
Bad Ronald:

Cheesy indeed!
 2:12pm
Wendy del Formaggio:

Thanks for the kind words, DC Pat!
Charlie, fear not. There is a very good cheesemaker in Long Valley, NJ (near Chester) called Valley Shepherd. I used to get their cheeses at the Inwood Greenmarket.
 2:17pm
Martin:

I loooove Cryptacize!!!!
 2:22pm
Charlie:

I know where Long Valley is, I got kicked out of a party over there once when I was younger for making an invisible canoe in the kitchen. I'll have to find somebody to drive me out there to find it. Thanks!!!
 2:24pm
bwalker:

cryptacize - amazing - where are the photos?
 2:24pm
Wendy del Formaggio:

Hey Charlie - maybe I'm making a mistake by asking this, but what's an invisible canoe?!?
 2:25pm
Liz B.:

I believe a blog post is in the works for this Cryptacize set. Are you guys falling in love all over again to these pretty songs?
 2:28pm
gerardo:

no love season for me by now, liz - my heart's just been broken :[
 2:28pm
Bad Ronald:

A little too sensitive for me but I don't fail to appreciate their beauty. I do like the quirky breaks though!
 2:29pm
Charlie:

Dude, I'm lovin' this Cryptacize set, as hard as I can. Goes great with sweet tea and BBQ chicken!!!

Wendy, an invisible canoe is just that, a canoe you can't see. I just mimed all the wood work. I kept telling people they couldn't walk through it and stuff. I was totally sober, which is the scary part.
 2:29pm
clayton p:

My head feels like a twelve-pound AMF ladies bowling ball. Your show is helping, though.
 2:29pm
Martin:

I love the record! But live, it's incredible!

Am I dreaming or will I never dream again?
 2:30pm
Liz B.:

Oh no, broken hearts and heads like bowling balls, sounds like we need some cheese triage for this crew!
 2:31pm
Cecile:

No, I'm not falling in love again. Then again, husband courted me with the Bonzo Dog Band...
 2:32pm
Wendy del Formaggio:

Liz: I'm with Bad Ronald - it's a little too sensitive for me, too, but the band is tight and the odd breaks are pretty cool.

Charlie: your canoe story is hilarious. the party hosts must have been, as my Gramma says, "Ol' sticks-in-the-mud"
 2:34pm
gerardo:

yeah, let the cheese melt, then! - cheers for that :) (thanx very much, liz ;))
 2:37pm
gerardo:

("let the cheese roll!", "let there be cheese!")
 2:38pm
Wendy del Formaggio:

Hey, The Minutemen covered Steely Dan, and they did a good job of it.
 2:39pm
Charlie:

Steely Dan rules. What song did Minutemen covered?
 2:41pm
dc pat:

Dr. Wu?
 2:41pm
Cecile:

Yeah, Dr. Wu
 2:42pm
dc pat:

not one of my favorite covers. minutemen's version of Ain't Talkin Bout Love rules
 2:43pm
randy prott:

I love the visual idea of Kraft Singles layed-out 7" apart on an ample square of standard cardboard.
 2:48pm
Wendy del Formaggio:

DC Pat: Ooh, on which album could I find the minutemen covering van halen?
 2:49pm
swami:

buzz or howl?
 2:50pm
Cecile:

I have it on the Tour-Spiel EP.
I dont' know where it was reissued on CD>
 2:51pm
north guinea hills:

it's the first time i've heard this song since i had the byrds (ballad od easy rider) lp playing at supreme trade....
 2:52pm
cd pat:

Double Nickles, right? But there's a live version out there that's even better.
 2:53pm
CW McCall:

double nickels means 55mph in CB lingo
 2:54pm
dc pat:

I guess the live version is on Tour Spiel w/ I don't have. And yeah I meant "Nickles"
 2:54pm
swami:

and doing them "on the dime" means that "Smokey" is out there.
 2:55pm
Cecile:

Pat, you're right, that's the Tour-Spiel one.
I always go to that one because I like their version of the meat puppets' lost too.
 2:56pm
Laurie:

Wow, that Robyn Hitchcock song sounded soooo much like Apples in Stereo.
 2:56pm
Park Van Dyke:

The Hitchcock thing sounded like something on Smiley Smile by the Beach Boys
 2:57pm
dc pat:

Cecile: yeah, why don't I have that?? I have every freakin thing else they did.
 2:57pm
jonathan:

my band is planning a cover of hey 19.
 2:58pm
Charlie:

Oh man, this is one of my favorite Steely Dan songs, since childhood.
 2:58pm
Cecile:

I think you must have blinked and missed it. It actually came out on Reflex/SST.
