Sybil:

Super Duper Manny?
  11:18pm
efd:

  11:27pm
Droll:

Tell me there's a Nice Face release I can add to my collection where I've already made a space for it.
  11:30pm
joe:

Dude, never apologize for the Dictators
  11:34pm
toni daytona:

  11:36pm
HugoBass:

Weather genuine enthusiasm, or dedicated performance art, I support the poster above me wholeheartedly
  11:37pm
efd:

joe -- point taken, you're absolutely right.
toni - a monday night without you would have to be a tuesday night.
  11:38pm
Droll:

. o O ( TD Comma Abuse: Check. All we're missing now is an April Wine tune, hopefully I Like To Rock, and the show's a veritable smash )
  11:39pm
Sybil:

nice version of "Who Do You Think You Are."

I'm depressed. Cheer me up, please.
  11:45pm
efd:

careful what you wish for, Droll!
Sybil, I will do my utmost to un-depress you.
  11:48pm
Sybil:

It's Julian Tavarez being DFA. Sigh.

But "anomie's the enemy" got me giggling a little. I love everything aboutn it, including the band and album names.
  11:49pm
efd:

nuts, i spoke too soon... my April Wine greatest hits CD isn't in my CD carrying case this week. but maybe next time!
  11:50pm
efd:

oh shoot, i hadn't heard about that! damn, that's a shame, i liked him. although he definitely wasn't the 2007 Julain Tavarez this year... but you hate to lose a personality like that.
  11:51pm
James:

yea, im checking out the faulty chromosones myspace now, good stuff, says that they're playing at wfmu on the 19th. gotta remember that
  11:51pm
Joe:

Evan, this is off topic, but would you recommend Clinic as a live act? I ask you only because I just (about 5 seconds ago) found out Im going to be in DC the night they play the Black Cat. And I first heard them on your show.

Also because I'm not super familiar with them, and you're awesome and I respect your opinion.
  11:54pm
Jessica:

I'm going to be singing "wildkatze," just like that, all week.
  11:58pm
juanes:

me gusto tacos y burritos
  11:58pm
Jessica:

...because it's way too damned catchy. And also because you're awesome and I respect your aurvurum.
  11:59pm
Joe:

See I told you you're awesome.
  12:00am
Sybil:

way awesome
  12:09am
Joe:

Davies, as always, you defy expectations.
  12:14am
speccy:

"Saint Etienne's breezy 1993 dance hit "Who Do You Think You Are?" has some interesting pedigree. Although it sounds like classic Etienne magic, it's actually a cover of an old song by Jigsaw, best known for 1975's delightful No. 3 single "Sky High", and featured almost "co" lead vocals between Sarah Cracknell and Debsey Wykes of Dolly Mixture fame. The song was previously a hit in the '70s when covered by Candlewick Green and was also recorded by Bo Donaldson and the Heywoods ("Billy, Don't Be a Hero") long before the Saint Etienne version"
  12:14am
Laurie:

I'm kind of glad I don't live in the New York area. I would have such a hard time deciding which shows to see each day.
  12:14am
Amanda:

"Who Do You Think You Are" was originally recorded/released by Jigsaw in 1975, says the internet!

Weird 9/11 concert story: a few weeks ago I found an un-ripped (expensive) ticket for U2 at Madison Square Garden... for a date that was shortly after 9/11/01. Obviously the show was cancelled and the buyer kept the ticket as a memento. Kind of chilling to find it in 2008.
  12:15am
Amanda:

Aaaaahhhh, speccy, you beat me!
  12:17am
efd:

JIGSAW?!?!?!!!!!1!!

holy crap!

thank you speccy and Amanda!
  12:18am
Sybil:

As late as 1975, really?Huh.

If the Internet says it, it must be true!
  12:18am
Joe:

Laurie, it's easy to decide when a beer will cost you 8.50.
  12:19am
efd:

Jigsaw 7" that I've been carrying back and forth for months now is coming right up...
  12:19am
efd:

(it's not "Who Do You Think You Are")
  12:19am
Laurie:

Joe, I live in Miami. It's just as expensive here. :(
  12:22am
Joe:

One day, I'm gonna move to the middle of the country somewhere. Like Aspen. Where the beer flows like WINE.
  12:23am
Laurie:

This jigsaw tune reminds me of The Greatest American Hero theme song
  12:29am
Amanda:

Joe, was that a Holmes reference? I'm consistently impressed/delighted/frightened by your listener in-jokes.

I love "Sky High" -- how serendipitous that was!
  12:36am
Joe:

Dual Holmes/Dumb and Dumber.

What word starts with g and ends with y that you can't say on the radio?

Apparently, when they played the demos for Neil after he cut the record, he was extremely impressed, then asked Rubin "So, when does the orchestra come in?"
  12:40am
efd:

haha, that is hilarious!

I'm not going to say it here either, because I don't want its meaning to be misconstrued as negative, which is not how I mean it.
  12:42am
Amanda:

"Gladys Knight-y," we shall assume.
  12:44am
efd:

ha! yes, exactly.
  12:46am
Droll:

Gaudy? Is this like a crossword?
  12:49am
Joe:

See, us kids, we use that word all the time, to the point its gained its own odd connotation, really neither positive nor negative. Thats what we get for coming of age after Ellen, Queer Eye, and Will and Grace.
  12:55am
Joe:

Solid recovery. That is a bizarre dream though. Freud would have a field day.
  12:57am
efd:

I hear you Joe, but having grown up myself when that was a high-school hallway insult I'm still reluctant to throw it around so casually.
  12:58am
Droll:

Thor is Canuk! Norse wannabe!
  12:59am
efd:

Droll, you seem to know an awful lot about Canadian hard rock bands. Is there something you want to share with the rest of us?
  1:00am
Joe:

I can respect that.

My theory is that Droll is actually Chad Kroeger.
  1:04am
Joe in Korea:

Rock! Yes! Motorhead! Just what the lobotomy doctor ordered! More!
  1:04am
Droll:

Honestly, you don't want to know about me and Rush... I recently flew into YYZ and I'm ashamed at how many covers of that song I dug up to listen to for the flight in... I've seen Neil Diamond live, but I'm embarassed about the Rush.
  1:10am
Amanda:

This Ministry is just so ridiculously good. Plus, I bet it has absolved ALL of us of any un-macho tendencies we may have exhibited heretofore.
  1:12am
Joe From Korea:

I feel like headbanging so bad! And its only 2PM here!
  1:16am
Amanda:

Whitfield Crane was in Ugly Kid Joe, and I didn't need to go to Wikipedia for that. (Shamefaced)
  1:18am
Joe From Korea:

Dont be shamefaced, I should have known that one, too.
  1:20am
efd:

i knew it was a three-word name, at least!

Joe, great to have you on board all the way from Korea! Wow!
  1:37am
speccy:

You *almost* said "regul-aah".
  1:39am
efd:

I don't even remember saying "regular" (or other variant) in that last break!
  1:40am
speccy:

You'll have to go back and listen to yourself on the archive, the context was "if you were a regular listener to Hova's show"
  1:41am
efd:

oh, right! i'm glad *somebody's* listening to what i say, I'm sure not!
  1:44am
Droll:

Mic foul on FMU? Hardly the first! Is there a penny jar in the booth for miscues and mic fouls? Self fund the station?
  1:47am
ADM:

Yussssss. Indian Jewelry!
Houston rocks you jerks.
  1:48am
efd:

that's a fine how-do-you-do!
  1:56am
Droll:

EFD, honest, I took the loyalty oath, I'm not Canadian or something sick like that, I'm 'merican, but please remember next week: Journey to the stars, rock 'n' roll guitars!
Fine show tonight, as usual. You will be missed next week, if you are, in fact, missing.
  2:00am
Joe:

The dangerous man, that speaks with his hands?

What a way to go out.
  2:01am
ADM:

We have to make our own music here, since no bands have come to this town since 1995.
  2:07am
efd:

thanks Droll, Joe, ADM and everyone else! Hopefully I'll see you next week, but if not then in 2 weeks for sure.
