Doug, don't know if something like Arthur Russell's world of Echo fits into your universe here (I think it should), but there is a lot of renewed interest in AR at the moment - a new documentary film is screening @ the kitchen, and the Kitchen itself is having some mini weekend retrospective of russell, etc.

The tough part about Arthur Russell (for me) can be figuring out all the aliases that he recorded under. I was listening to Dinky's Resident Advisor podcast from a month or so ago and thinking that the track by Indian Ocean that opened up the mix sounded a heck of a lot like Arthur Russell and, sure enough, it was him.

I'm guessing that the phone call bit was a parody presented on some "morning zoo" type radio show in South Africa. Despite the hilarity, the subject matter is devastating.

Damn, I missed the African scream contest. That's what I get for going to the bathroom and spending time sabotaging the building maintenance Nazis' attempts to keep the bathroom doors locked at all times for no reason whatsoever. (There's already too much security for any bums to get in.)
