The Mavis song reminds me that Pops Staples once did a session in his stately later years for the BBC's Andy Kershaw - it was put out on cd as an EP if I remember correctly. Nice thing it was too.

Thanks for a great year of music, Doug. Fave moments: William Parker / Raining on the Moon and the Max Roach tribute - apart from the music I really enjoyed your interview with him. Would love to have listened to "How long's that Trane been gone" but it went out at 4.00 pm UK time, just about the time of day when one really ought to try and focus on doing some work.

We are all so fortunate to live in the age of William Parker. (Every generation gets the Parker it deserves?!) I could easily have added his latest record to my favorites of the year list, but I am trying hard not to repeat musicians in an effort to spread the love. Essentially, I could add the annual gems from William Parker, Laura Veirs, Tom Brosseau, Mary Gauthier, Sublime Frequencies and a dozen other entities to every Best Of list. I am so glad you enjoyed the Max Roach program. It was a rather heartbreaking affair, and I would've preferred a different reason to unearth my old interview. But so be it. I don't pray about much, but I do hope and pray that someday I will be able re-air the Coltrane documentary, or at least help things come about so that copies can be made available commercially. I will keep everyone informed about any developments.
