Hi what a pleasure - i just got in put you on. Mike died the day before my 65th birthday concert in London. I had the pleasure of working and recording with him in the seventies with Louis, Dudu, Mongezi and Harry Miller as you probably know. A great player who will be sadly missed. Much more to tell byt this isnt the place obviouslky. Just wanted to say hi and thanx.

There was also a Stan Tracey - Keith Tippett duo called appropriately "T n' T". Quite interesting as an opportunity to compare their individual styles.

I think his best recordings were with the trio and "All Night Long" is quite possibly the best of 'em all. IMHO. All three are on overdrive throughout. But why did the record have to be faded? Aaargh!

Doug, The Peanuts Club was a meeting place for the new music in London's east end. Mike held a long residency at Peanuts and curated weekly concerts: Mike Osborne & Friends etc... for quite a number of years.

My sincere thanks for introducing me to Mr. Osbourne's enormous talent. I will keep my eyes peeled for his recordings, as the show proved that anywhere is a good place to start.

Thanks for this very touching tribute. I really appreciate the personal commentary and reminiscences on the man and the music. ... Which led me to suggest another tribute on a fellow (fallen) traveler, how about a Marion Brown show?

Phong, you are right-on about Marion Brown being deserving of loving tribute. Beyond the creativity and innovation he produced, it is how universally he is beloved by his fellow musicians and fans that stands out. I am not in the habit of doing "tribute" or "memorial" shows. I prefer to think of each show -- and each track I select, actually -- as part of a long-running tribute to the creative souls so deserving. It's true that recently I've done full-length shows for Max Roach and Mike Osborne, and I'm sure I will do more down the road. But it takes an deeper emotional connection for me to choose to interupt my regular programming for a special show. And with Roach and Ossie, it is almost as if I had no choice but to do those shows. But, back to Marion Brown: According to a comment left at the marvelous blog Destination Out, MB is doing well and can be reached by telephone. He loves to receive calls from fans, but please call before 6pm eastern time: 954-926-5600.
