More recently, I tactically employed the same song to freak out a plumber who was working in my apartment. He'd already ripped me off by sabotaging one thing after fixing the initial problem. Not wanting to give him any reason to want to make a return visit to my apartment, I cranked up "Love Piece" to a more-than-comfortable level and peered (weirdly) at him while he worked. Not surprisingly, he fixed my sink and was out of there in a jiffy, never to return. A truly versatile track. Thanks for spinning it today, Doug!

Maybe your plumber was just rushing out to buy himself a copy of the album. (Blessedly, it was reissued on disc a couple of years ago.) Of course, in his hurry, he probably caused accident jamming up traffic on the Brooklyn Bridge. Yeah, I bet that's just what happened. Doug Doug

I like most of Max Roach recordings especially when he played with Charlie Barnett. Sorry he has been ill. Found my self dancing the charleston or something like that while listening to Montana Slim and Warshboard tunes. As usual good show. RIP John Robert Bradley. Have a great day Doug. Skylar

Max Roach is, for me, the moon and stars. The musical drummer who ever lived. I once spent the most magical afternoon in his apartment. I had gone to do an interview and, meeting me at the door, the first words he says are, "You must be Doug. You just gotta come in and have some apple pie. And there I was, sitting in Max Roach's kitchen eating apple pie. It only got better from there... Great day to you Sky!

I have it on the original soundtrack, but that Kishore Kumar track also appears on the fab compilation The Rough Guide to Yodel (sort of an audio companion to ex-FMU dj Bart Plantenga's book "Yodel-Ay-E-Ooo). To my ears, the mambos Perez Prado squeezed out during his Mexico City sojourn are among the raunchiest sounds every recorded, and that's just the instrumentals. The Rev-Ola collection I played on this show was among my favorite releases of '04. Looky here: http://www.wfmu.org/~doug/Best04/best04index.html
