Transpacific Sound Paradise
Musicians from
Kyrgyzstan in Central Asia plus a cultural anthropologist from Philly stop by
for interview and a bit of demonstration / performance. renowned for his
skill with traditional wind instruments of Central Asia. He also plays with the
Kyrgyz traditional group Tengir Too, who have a cd recently released by Smithsonian
Folkways. He
demonstrates various instruments and plays a few short solo
songs. And he talks about keeping
the tradition alive for the younger generation. Manas, the longest
epic in the world at over half a million lines. (He won't be performing on this

Philadelphia-based
anthropologist Helen Faller brought the artists to the US. She acts as interpreter and helps to
