I've been working at 6am and I went to bed at around 2 last night. I did manage to fall asleep on my couch for about an hour and I'm feeling okay so hopefully no dead air and frantic calls from Ken tonight. But if you hear dead air for 20 minutes, that's part of the magic!

Hosting is basically being there early while th artists are loading in and sound checking (another person does the sound), bringing them food and making sure they are comfortable, selling ykkoösolut (beer under 2.5%, no license needed to sell) and reminding people to pay what they can afford for the artist, then closing up after everyone has left. I get to hear some great music while doing it. I knew Islaja from an album I bought close to 20 years ago, but had never seen her live, and Cucina Povera was a new discovery, and really great, a Luxembourgian-Karelian artist from Kuopio.

Ah cool. So these are touring artists? I was crossing the street in my neighborhood the other day and saw an RV drive by with a giant QR code on the side that said "We are on tour buy us some gas and help the French musicians!" They were going too fast for me to help them out though.

They do tour some but this was a one-off. They noth live a pretty convenient train trip away. But Cucina Povera has lived and performed in London, Glasgow and Paris, and Islaja was in Berlin a long time.
