Played a Sitar only once. Scintillating. Gittar seemed like a dull brick afterwards...
You oil your fretting fingers - completely opposite of Gittar behaviors. Wear a little thimble pick on picking finger... Frets are looped over the neck - you can press in as well. Bend strings a massive amount over them... I immediately went for a fast Vibrato like a Psychedelic San Francisco Gittarist. Told this is bad form in Indian Music. You may slide to a note a lot - but you articulate it precisely. Whereas in Indian Vocals there can be massive Vibrato, I note...
