"Peter Gabriel" albums, all originally just titled that (and referred to by others as I/II/III... 'Car'/'Scratch'/'Melt'...).

I once read that PG envisioned them not as a published "book", like rock albums had become from the mid 60s, but like "issues" of a magazine or periodical.

My obsession with 60s mono mizes might be unhealthy - but this album is an exception; I dislike the mono one (having heard it some 30+ later than the stereo) while the stereo mix immediately brings back fond memories of listening to it at my local library on headphones as an awkward 8-year old late 1984 or so.

Yes, same here. Funny how The Doors s/t mono mix sounds exactly like some phase cancellation mistake or something. (Strange Days in mono does not, it sounds very good to my ears, even if it is not a completely dedicated one, as some of the songs are just stereo mix mono folds.) I guess they started to phase out the mono mixes earlier in USA, while in UK around 1967 or so a mono mix was The Product and stereo often an afterthought.

Ha, I think I read from somewhere they made something of an impression during their first US visits by being very... Finnish (i.e. not that much small talk). Michael Gira told an anecdote when they were touring with Swans & Pan Sonic he was desperately trying to engage in some chitchat with them and they were just staring at the necks of the beer bottles they were drinking as it were. A line like "OK guys, are you having fun" was replied with: "What do you mean... fun?" Then again, I have also heard they could be very enjoyable company to hang out with and I am postive you might have had that sort of experience as well. Btw, I have also read Ilpo likes his Elton John as well!

@ this point - Elton also had a distinct & notable RawkBand of his own - as perhaps Bowie had the Spiders ...not like I can name the Players even yet...

And thx for the randomised trivialia!

The etymology is unknown/without consensus, but "jalopy" seems like Austronesian word DNA. I was thinking it could be some term brought back from the Philippine war.

There is a serious gap in my record collection. No Elton John whatsoever. Must do something about it.

One of those connections is my favorite solo Lennon song ('Mind games' & 'Instant Karma' aside) namely 'Whatever Gets You thru the Night'

↳ Song: "Dan Dare (Pilot of the Future)" by "Elton John"
DanDare - a British Flash Gordon in the Sunday Comics if I understand right. Also referenced in Syd's 'Astronomy Domine'.

As probly all here know - Elton bet Lennon if it got to #1, Lennon would have to Perform Live with him. Lennon agreed thinking - no chance. But it did. @ that point, Lennon thot the Public wasn't so into him anymore after Political & Avant activities. People say Madison Square Garden shook like a quake for him - like no other audience response anyone can compare.
