Laughing to myself imagining this wasnt technical difficulties but rather a deliberate choice to start todays episode with a cold open 🤣

I'm not really sure why people make the things they do. I can't stop, and I don't know how to do anything else. Sometimes I'd like to take a break, but I feel bad when I do, so I just keep going.
Avatar 8:30pm
HyperDose:

the best compositions are ones you pull out of the ether. it almost writes itself and 30mins later you have something that came from seemingly nothing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:33pm
Austin Rich:

↳ HyperDose @8:30
I think that's how most things happen. I think you have to work at it often, and keep working at it, to be successful. This idea that you can wait for inspiration, and then and only then can you make something, is a misunderstanding of how creativity works. The more you tap into it, the more often you can. It isn't something you wait for; it's always there, like a muscle that needs to be exercised.
Avatar 8:44pm
HyperDose:

↳ Austin Rich @8:33
agree 100%
and if you're working with other musicians you have to deal with the weirdness and rejection of ideas that comes with the territory. then releasing it and seeing if any other weirdos like your art (terrifying!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:45pm
Austin Rich:

When I was young I would read interviews with people, where they talked about writing every day, or how they would try to write a new song every day, and I would think, "That's amazing!"

Now I worry that it's not enough.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:47pm
Austin Rich:

↳ HyperDose @8:44
Absolutely! I sort of like the back and forth when you work with others. Good ideas are stronger, bad ideas are weeded out sooner. I like how cutthroat it is. I know other people don't like writing as a group because of that, but I like how much better the songs are when you work with a group.

Releasing things is another matter. And how much of a weirdo the other folks are is another matter, also!

Tried that once for a couple months years ago. I had to finish an instrumental a week (full mix/master). by the end of it I was really in a groove and still use a variation of that mastering chain
