The Continental also became a post-concert hangout for musicians playing the area. R.E.M. and the English Beat stopped by, as did David Johansen, after opening for the Who (on their first
"farewell tour") at the 70,000-seat Rich Stadium. Johansen's visit was likely more memorable for me than him, as he alternated, in no particular order, between sips of whiskey, amiable conversation, puffs on his cigar, and puking.
