The Continental also became a post-concert hangout for musicians playing the area. R.E.M. and the English Beat stopped by, as did David Johansen, after opening for the Who (on their first

I would add "Get It," DE's best album, great originals & covers, harmonies, etc. The next 2 aren't quite as good, although there's great stuff on both (I found some of "Repeat" a little weak). And while the synthesized/Jeff Lynne stuff isn't great, he went back to his original sound, more or less,
after that, like "Plugged In" (his last real album). The new double collection looks good if you don't have he Swansong albums, plus it has 3 hard to find b-sides, inc. a cover of "NY's a Lonely Town."

the little recording unit still works - and still love it for the ability to split tracks while recording live music sets - the little player with headphone-cable controls is not doing as well.

I have a copy of this dB's album on white vinyl (not b&W). Found it (I think) at CB's during the short time they had a little record store next to the club. I liked it, think it was a German import or something...when I showed it to had Peter Holsapple (at a Continental Drifters show at Central Park) he said oh yeah, this is OK but other versions have better sound...wonder how "legit" it is.

I really had it in for Jeff Lynne for his work with Edmunds, but I totally changed my mind and came to love those records. And Jeff too after being a very young casual fan of ELO

Lynne only produced 2 cuts on "Information" (I still love the title track, despite the production) & half of the next album, which is uneven, lots of synth & 80s production--a change of pace that doesn't always work. JL wrote some of it too, which is about as formulaic as the ELO stuff he was doing then.

"Slippin Away" may have been DE's last bid for the Top 40.
And to be totally fair, Dave's such a consistent sonic throwback in the studio that those records don't sound dated like so many '80s productions
