Cuts to research are not as extreme as you report,but are there, and the vice-premier, from the True Finns party, once said that culture is a luxury. Social benefits are being cut strongly, as is money to the public health system. Unfortunately we have to hold on for a while until the next national election. But if things continue as polls look now, the next government will be fronted by social democrats and may undo some of this nonsense.

Re Germany, I really dislike Merz but he found very good words after the debacle in Washington. Re US, I lost my citizenship in 2007 when I became German so couldn't go back even if I wanted to, and currently I wouldn't even want to visit, much less move back.

But if things continue as polls look now, the next government will be fronted by social democrats and may undo some of this nonsense.
