Austin Rich:

I was in charge of Spider Removal in my house, when I was a kid. My mom, her girlfriend, and all three of my sisters were not fond of spiders, and I was often deployed to find, capture, and put the spider outside, somewhere. The first time I had to do this I was probably 12? I insisted that I should just relocate them outside, rather than what I was often asked to do. We didn't have anything dangerous or poisonous where we lived, so what was the harm? Might as well just catch them in my hands, and walk outside. They're normally harmless.

On the far North end of the Mid-Valley, there used to be a woman who hosted late-night movies - well before my time - who went by the name Tarantula Ghoul. Tarantula became a bit of a figure in Portland in the late 50's and 60's, recorded a pop record about King Kong, and would often lead parades and public events in Portland. She passed in the early 80's, but her legend looms VERY large in the Northwest.

In ireland, the spiders come in the houses late Aug-early Sept ... normal house spiders looking to mate .. super big but harmless ... woke up at 3am for a swig of water one eve and started moving and found my lower left leg and foot semi-paralyzed and in exchruiating pain if I even moved a toe ... looked up the symptms later and discovered there are what are called "Fake Widow Spiders" in Ireland - generally not deadly, but debilitating ...

Finally wore off after 5-6 hours ...

In the recent "Watchmen" TV Show that was on HBO a few years back, there's a lot of Bass Reeves moments, and he becomes the inspiration for a few of the characters in that show. There's also a subplot about the importance of The Tulsa Race Massacre, among many other things. There's plenty of things to watch, and there's a lot in Watchmen that is not on topic. But there's a lot of interesting stuff in that show that is often omitted from regular US history.

My partner, who has never read comics and didn't know anything about Watchmen, suggested that we watch it, and ended up really liking it. I was trying to imagine how it would play for people who know nothing about it, and apparently, it plays VERY well. She loved it! (She's still not interested in the comic, and that's fine. Comics are a hard sell, even to other comics fans.)

We had the same experience with the "Legion" TV Show. We had no idea it was based on comics at first, and she was really pushing to watch it. Near the end of the first episode, she turns to me and said, "Is this another comic book show? They tricked me!" She ended up loving that one, too.

Haha same with that one, my partner wanted to watch it because he's super into possession and exorcism media and thought it was gonna be a demonic related show and well kinda, but he really loved it

Don't see the Ursa mongoose segment listed. If it was I would clicky star it. It was memorably great!
