A combination of collage, new experimental records and other bits and bobs, Mid-Valley Mutations is a tour through the mind of Austin Rich, who has been broadcasting in some form since 1998. Heavily influenced by Dr Demento, Don Joyce and old fashioned College Radio, Austin creates Audio Essays on a variety of subjects, and even just plays records, from time to time. Sometimes Live music and Interviews will grace the program, helping create a situation where you don't really know what you're going to hear, when you tune in. What you need to know is when you enter the Mid-Valley region, be prepared for the Musical Mutations... in whatever form they take.

When I was taking biological psych at U of O one theory about dreams we were taught was that when we slept, parts of our brains were busy converting shorter-term memories into long-term memory, and during this process, other parts of our brain were "off the leash" for while and kinda did whatever they wanted

When I was taking the course to be a hypnotherapist, they had all kinds of ideas about dreams. There were sections on dream interpretations and such. Essentially, if someone wakes up "in the middle of the night" from a dream, it may be a premonition, but if a person wakes up naturally at the regular time, it may just be idle thoughts, not worth interpreting.

What dreams could mean would be largely personal, but there may also be Jungian archetypes and whatnot involved.

↳ Song: "Pinky's Dream" by "David Lynch"
This album is pretty great, but I forget about it regularly, until I do a show like this.
  9:41pm
Heather Z:

I have a lot of what I call napmares where I have weird dreams while napping. Today, I snoozed a bit and had a dream that a friend and I were going to see a Barry White cover band at the local arthouse theater. He said my hair smelled nice and I got so stressed trying to explain it's my sister in law's shampoo (I'm dogsitting for my sister and her wife) that I woke myself up saying it out loud. I guess I'm glad sleeping me refuses to take credit if it's not due?

Lynch was working on a Netflix series before he died. Producers said the script was great. Hopefully the screenplays are released at some point, although I know the actual filming would change a lot of things, once Lynch started at directing.

Same for me, Austin. Crazy Clown Town is an album I’ve never owned, but I occasionally hear random tracks and I beat myself up for never buying it. I plan to rectify that in the near future.

I used to do a technique called "Image Streaming", which is essentially talking to yourself into a record and describing stream-of-consciousness imagery. I used to talk into a walkie-talkie that I had connected to a recording device, too. I wouldn't share that easily, though, but I have a lot of crazy hour long blatherings.
